Who: Robin, Allan, Much, Marian, and OPEN if anyone wants to be around
What: with Marian after her attack
When: night of the 21st
Where: the hospital
Warnings: angst, angst, and then some more angst

Had he been less focused, Robin would have been far more interested in the teleportation; to be in one place one moment, and miles away the next, was astounding. As it was, he was glad he remembered to thank Paige; and, as soon as he had learned where Marian was, he took off for the hospital.

Along the way, he berated himself in a thousand different ways. He should have requested that they go to the training together. He should have known that she would go out on her own, despite her agreements. He had failed her again.

Three times, now. She could not possibly have any chances left; God knew, he probably did not, either. He had promised her father he would keep her safe.

She had promised to take Allan and Much when she went to the church.

So much for promises.

A nurse directed him to her Marian's room, and he had to stop himself from running there. At the same time, he had to force his feet to move along the hallway. Allan had said she was "pretty badly hurt," and as he walked into the room, he tried to keep the "alive" part of his friend's message in mind, instead.

There were wires all around her, machines beeping beside the bed. Her arm was wrapped up in something. Her face carried some scratches, and there were areas that looked as though they were likely to bruise within the next day. And she was so very still.

He was frozen a few steps away from her. Alive. She's alive. That was the important thing.

Allan had been berrating himself ever since they had found her, thinking that his friend had given him one instruction while he was away, and he had let him down, again. He was never going to be okay in his own eyes since his betrayal, and it still amazed him that Robin had forgiven him. He hadn't left Marian's side since they had found her, and when they told him that visiting hours were over, he pitched enough of a fit for them to just let him stay because it was easier than him fighting his way back into Marian's room.

He had fallen asleep there, in the chair next to her bed, and he did not wake up when Robin entered the room, he only turned and muttered something vaguely resempling a curse at himself. He wasn't going to leave her again. He wouldn't let her out his sight until Robin arrived, not that sleeping was getting that job done, but he had been exhausted.

Marian was so pale. Though she was always rather pale, Much thought to himself. So maybe that wasn't such a bad thing? Those scratches certainly weren't good. And all the strange beeping. And the stillness. Much was very used to the people he knew being energetic and simply refusing to stay still, even when they were meant to. And yet they were all still now. Marian in the bed. Allan in the chair.

He was leaning against the wall opposite the bed, watching them both, when he saw movement from the corner of his eye. Robin had just walked in. As soon as he had entered the room, he had become very still too. That was the strangest stillness of them all. Robin was never still. It was a constant source of annoyance and reassurance for Much. At the same time. Which was really very confusing.

"Hello Robin," he said as cheerfully as he could. It was a bit below his usual standards though. He was still feeling immensely guilty for not assuming that Marian would probably 'forget' to ask he and Allan to go with her. He should have known. She had learnt her stubbornness from Robin it seemed.

Robin started when Much spoke, noticing Allan asleep in a chair, as well. Glancing at Much, he gave him a small nod before moving over to the bed. Carefully, he laid his hand on hers, on the arm that was not wrapped. It was cool, but not frighteningly so; a little of the tension within him relaxed.

There were so many questions he wanted to ask, and he had no idea where to begin. Or even what to ask; it was all kind of a jumble in his head.

His voice felt rusty when he asked, "Has a doctor said anything?" Reaching over with his other hand, he lightly brushed a strand of hair off of her forehead. "How long has she been out?"

Much glanced at Allan as Robin crossed to Marian's side. He didn't even stir. It was true, he thought. Allan could sleep through anything. All the Sheriff's guards could have come in to camp and started to dance, and Allan would not have stirred.

"Oh. Yes." He took a step closer at Robin's question. "A broken arm. And some broken...ribs, yes. And scratches and bruises. I think that was all." Honestly, Much could not bring himself to talk about bleeding and things. It was just far too much where Marian was concerned. Nothing like this was meant to happen to her. "She has not woken up yet. I think she must have been waiting for you Master. She'll be awake in no time now," he said in a poor attempt at hoping to bring a smile to Robin's face.

"They wanted us to leave. But Allan put up quite a fight. I think he spent too much time around Gisborne really. He is very good at being grouchy."

He winced inwardly as Much listed each of her injuries, feeling the words like physical blows. I should not have left her. She was too pale, even her lips faded, and he noticed that one of the tubes connected to her seemed to be carrying blood. Either Much was not telling him everything, or he did not know it, himself; regardless, Robin was not up to arguing the point. He would talk to the doctor later.

For now, he was needed here. Cautiously, so as not to jostle her, he sat down beside her on the bed. He glanced at the various machines, vaguely recognizing a few of them from things he had seen on the television, but not really sure what any of them did. And the number of wires and tubes around her was not reassuring.

He needed her to wake up, but, at the same time, he was very glad she was unconscious. During a battle in the Holy Land, he had had one rib broken and two others cracked, and the pain was brutal; along with her other injuries, it was kinder if she was not awake.

He felt half a smile tug at Much's account of Allan's argument. "Well, then, I have one thing to be grateful to Gisborne for. I am glad you were both here for her." As I should have been.

His eyes moved back and forward between Robin and Marian as he took in her injuries for himself. Robin had not said the words, but he did not need to. Much knew what he was thinking.

"You could not know this would happen. So you should not start feeling guilty. Allan is already feeling guilty enough for all of us." His own guilt was at odds with the worry that he felt. Worry was easier than guilt. If he made sure the others were okay, he would have less reason to worry. So he did his best to ignore the guilt. It wasn't working very well yet but he was trying.

It was with that thought in mind that he was very glad of the smile that attempted to cross Robin's face. It was not even a shadow of his usual efforts, but it was something.

Allan finally stirred at hearing his own name a few times, and he sprung awake, ready for an attack. He could sleep through anything, or anywhere, it was true, but that didn't mean he didn't have the instincts for when he did wake up. He came to to see Robin there, sitting with Marian, and his guilty look he had been wearing since they had found her reappeared on his face.

"Robin I'm so sorry. I should have been with her."

Despite Much's assurances, Robin knew he could have prevented this. But he could not change what happened, and now, they had to deal with the consequences.

Marian had to deal with the consequences.

When Allan woke, his expression mirrored Robin's feelings fairly closely. "It's not your fault," he replied.

He was not just saying it, either; he did not blame either one of them. Most of that was placed on the head of the monster who did this, with a generous portion on himself. And, until he had walked in here, he had been placing quite a bit on Marian, too; however, right now, he could not be upset at her. Not for being bullheaded, not for lying to him... the things he had been considering, he did not care about. She simply had to recover, and quickly.

It was on the tip of his tongue to repeat his assurances to Robin, that it was not his fault either, but he knew it was futile. Robin would not change how he felt about it until he had somehow convinced himself. It bothered Much more than a little that he could not be the one to change his mind for him.

"Well, everything will be just fine now, I say. She will be better in no time, and wake up and have you with her." And of course, Marian would be happy about that. Anyone would. Which reminded him of the other thing that had confused him. "How did you get here so quickly? I thought you were quite far away."

Allan rubbed his eyes after Robin spoke, but still kept the look of guilt pasted to his face. He should have been with her. She had saved him from Robin killing him, and he had betrayed the gang enough. He felt he needed to make up for it here. "I know, but I should have been with her." He wasn't going to give on that fact, because he should have.

Much's nervous ramblings made him direct his attention toward him, but not changing his mood at all. He hoped for the same thing, but when Much talked about Robin getting here quickly, he looked around for what he had come to know as a clock. "You got her quickly? What time is it?"

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]iamrobinhood

Allan's self-recriminations bothered him, even as he understood them. He did agree that both men should have been with her, but he knew that Marian would likely have found a way to shake them, even if they had shackled themselves to her, were she so inclined. Besides which, her safety was his responsibility, not theirs; he was her betrothed-- her husband, in his own time,-- and he was the one who had promised her dying father that he would take care of her.

"If anyone should have been with her, it's me. You rescued her; thank you for that."

He resented Much's positive attitude; how could the man be so upbeat after what had happened? It was on the tip of his tongue to lash out at him, but he caught himself just as he started to snap. He wanted to scream that he was not the solution to everything, that things were not "just fine" if Marian was lying, broken, in a hospital bed. But, as he started to snap, he remembered his vow to be better to his friend. Much was only trying to help. His manner of doing so was exceptionally misguided; but he meant no harm. All Robin would accomplish by venting his frustrations would be to alienate Much-- who had actually been here when Marian was in trouble, instead of off on a trip.

While he tried not to yell, they asked about his speedy arrival. After telling Allan the time, he said, "I'm not quite sure how to explain it, myself. It was called 'teleportation,' and the woman who does it showed up at Bobby's right after I messaged her-- then, a moment later, we were back here."

Now that he had time to think, he was incredibly grateful for the help; he would still be quite far away if he'd had to ride in a car.

What did Robin mean when he told Allan 'you rescued her'? Did he mean he thought only Allan did it? Because that certainly was not the case. Maybe he and Allan got along better now, since Allan got here first.

He saw Robin's reaction to what he said, and was waiting for the typical onslaught, only for it to never come. What was this? Since when did Robin not tell him exactly what he was thinking of him? It certainly wasn't a bad thing. But should he be worried? What if he stopped listening to the things he said altogether? At least when he was angry at him, that meant he had listened to him.

All the talk about 'teleportation' was rather confusing, although he thought he might have to try it some time. Maybe he could find Eve that way. "Well, we will have to find some way to thank her for getting you here so quickly."

Allan's look of guilt turned to confusion as he listened to how Robin had arrived here. He definitely didn't understand that. "I should have to see that for myself."

He then turned his attention toward Marian, standing from the chair he had been sleeping in and walking over to Much, not wanting to warn him he was going to be hit. Then stood beside him, arms crossed before one went and hit Much's arm. "I'm not being funny, you really need to shut up."

Much seemed surprised when Robin cut his tirade off at the outset, and Robin felt an extra twinge of guilt, remembering the revelation from his last birthday (in his own time). He truly had not realized that he was so callous toward his dearest friend, and things had gone better... for awhile.

As they would again.

"Yes, we shall," he agreed. And, at least his explanation seemed to distract Allan. "You'd be amazed. It's rather indescribable."

When Allan got up, Robin turned his attention back to Marian, only to glance over at his friends with the small commotion. Glaring slightly at them, his voice was harsher than he meant it to be when he said, "It's all right." They could squabble all they wished elsewhere, but not here. He turned back to Marian, a sigh escaping him as he studied her. Then, he closed his eyes, willing her to heal, to wake... anything other than this silent stillness.

Much was glad Robin agreed with him so readily, and was more than happy to put the unpleasantness behind them for now.

He was considering hitting Allan back, just because he could, when Robin's rebuke reached his ears. It wasn't so much the words as his tone. "Sorry Robin," he said as he lowered his hand. He was right. Though really it was Allan who had started it. He watched Robin as he watched Marian, hoping for his sake that Marian would wake soon. Robin needed her. And as much as it pained him to think it, at the moment Robin needed her more than he needed him.

The first thing she was aware of was a dull ache running under her skin, somehow knowing that it should be worse and she was curious as to how it wasn't that bad. Then she was aware that she wasn't being attacked anymore, she was somewhere else. Somewhere warm and safe. And with voices she knew, a warm weight over her left hand. Robin's hand, she knew that. She knows his touch better than anything.

Slowly, she opened her eyes a little before squeezing them shut to get away from the light. Her throat was dry, her mind was a little dizzy. But she had to get Robin. She had to know he really was here.

"Robin...?" she said, her voice hoarse.

The muscles in her hand moved just a hint beneath his, and he opened his eyes in time to see her squint, and then change her mind about opening them. And then, she said his name, and the sound of her voice-- rough as it was-- was so sweet that he had to blink quickly to disperse the tears of relief that sprang up. "Yes, my love?" he replied softly, in case her head was hurting.

Over his shoulder, he said, "One of you, turn off the lights?" then turned his attention right back to her. Hopefully, she could look around once it was dimmer.

Much watched intently when he heard Marian speak, instinctively taking a step closer. At Robin's request, he quickly moved to the little switch by the door that controlled the lights, turning them off. He still did not know how they worked, but they did, and the how was the last thing on his mind at the moment.

Moving closer again, he stood at the foot of the bed, his eyes on Marian's face, gaze occasionally flickering to Robin.

"There, that is better isn't it? Now it is not quite so bright in here. They really should not make a place where people are trying to rest so bright if you ask me. But you didn't, did you? You probably do not care about lights right now." Robin would probably be mad that he was talking again, but he could not help it. It was such a great relief to see Marian awake.

He responded to his name so at least she knew she wasn't imagining it. After all, her mind was foggy enough to hint at any sort of imagination. Then he was commanding for the lights to be turned off and the room that was seperated by her closed eyelids grew darker. She heard a mumble of words from a voice she knew and she was grateful to hear it, but right now there was only one person she was focused on. Letting her eyes open slowly, testing that it wasn't too bright, she let them land on the face hovering above her.

"Hello."

Robin glanced back at Much when his friend began chattering, finding that he was less annoyed than he expected to be-- perhaps restraining himself earlier was helping?-- and merely made a calming gesture, indicating that Much should hush.

Turning to Marian again, he smiled with relief when she looked blearily up at him. "Hello." He could not maintain the smile, though, and asked, "How are you feeling?"

She didn't like it when his smile left his face. A smile was a look that suited him, the frown on his face now did not. And she was the cause of it. Turning her hand with a small amount of effort, she gently entwined their fingers to try and get a smile from him. Or at least a reaction that wasn't so sad.

"I'm fine."

Her automatic response, but if she was honest she wasn't aware of much right now. All she was aware of was the feel of his hand in hers and the fact that she had escaped the attack.

He loved the way her hand felt in his, and he eased a bit more when their fingers were laced. He did not believe for a moment that she was fine, but at least she was not appearing to be in too much pain.

He'd been wanting to kiss her head, but was afraid of jostling her too much if he leaned over. Instead, being careful not to disturb her, he raised their hands just enough that he could press his lips to the back of her hand.

An apology was on the tip of his tongue, but she hadn't seemed to like his question a moment ago, and he did not want to upset her. Instead, he called her out on her answer. Lightly, giving her the closest thing to a grin he could muster, he murmured, "You're a liar, Marian."

Hopefully, he was choosing the right tactic. He would hate for her to not be up the tease.

She smiled a little when he brought her hand to his lips, moving her hand from his grasp so she could run her fingers across his cheek gently. He looked too worried, she prefered it when he was smiling. Almost as if he read her thoughts, he gave her a grin. One she knew was forced but that was better than the concerned look he had moments ago.

"When I have to be," she replied quietly, her eyes still not leaving his at all.

Her smile, weak as it was, made it easier to summon one of his own. And when she stroked his cheek, he covered her hand with his own for a moment, before lacing their fingers again, lowering their arms before she accidentally moved too much and hurt herself.

He was pretty sure she intended her reply to be lighthearted, too, but the words confirmed that she was not doing so well. "No," he said softly. "You never have to be. I don't want you to lie to me."

He had not realized what he was saying until it was said, and quickly shoved down the thought that she had lied about taking their friends with her, for safety. That was unimportant now.

"If you need or want anything, if I can do anything to help you be more comfortable, name it." If his smile was a bit more strained now, he doubted it would be too noticeable, after the ones he had forced so far.

Allan had been only watching quietly from the corner, knowing that the two needed that moment together. He only wanted to help, and considered leaving the room for a moment to give them thier privacy. He would have pulled Much with him.

Robin then told her that if she needed anything he would get it. He wanted to make sure everyone was alright, and he knew Robin wouldn't want to leave her so he stepped up. "Yeah, Marian. What's going to go get a few things between friends? I'll get whatever you need." The classic Allan smile on his face.

"I wont lie then. I'm not as bad as I was before I woke up."

She glanced around for a moment, taking in her surroundings. There were so many wires leading up to her own body, making her curious as to what each thing did. Something seemed to be carrying blood right into her. Well that was strange. She could feel the dull ache starting to get stronger in both her arm and where her ribs were. That couldn't be good, but she tried not to let it show. That was until Robin asked if there was anything he could do and Allan agreed with him, the first time she had really noticed that he was there.

"Figure out why the pain is getting stronger?"

He wanted to ask her exactly what had happened, but was not going to bring it up until she seemed to be up for an extended conversation. And there was also the real possibility that it would upset her to remember, so he was not about to risk that.

Her face changed a little as she looked around, becoming more tense. She was already much paler than usual, but what small color had been in her cheeks was gone, and he suspected she was starting to feel her injuries before she made her request.

Appreciating Allan's offer, Robin glanced at his friend. "Can you fetch the doctor, or a nurse?"

At Marian's words, his smile disappeared, and he was already out the door looking for the doctor, or the nurses that had tried to force him out of the building as Robin spoke to that effect. He would leave them for a moment, just long enough for him to find someone to help.

Marian let her eyes follow Allan out of the room before she closed them, taking a deep breath. It wasn't as bad as the pain she felt when the injuries were caused but it still hurt. Before she knew what she was doing, her grip on his hand tightened as she worked her way through the throbbing pain and she became more aware of the sickness and weak feeling that was coursing through her. She wanted it over, she wanted it to stop. But it just wouldn't. Whimpering a little, she bit her lip hard to stop herself from crying out as the pain in her ribs got worse.

It was obvious that she was hurting more by the second, and Robin was frustrated by his inability to do anything. Her grip on his hand was liable to leave bruises, but that was a passing thought. With his free hand, he smoothed back her hair, trying to soothe her even a little.

When a small sound escaped her, a million ways he would dispatch her attacker flitted through his mind-- his ire increasing when he realized that almost none of them would work on the creature.

He let none of that anger show, set on being a calm presence for Marian.

Ever since Robin's silent gesture for him to be silent he hadn't said a word. He knew people didn't really like his talking, but right now he didn't know what else to do. He felt very powerless. They needed Djaq. She would be able to get rid of the pain Marian was feeling.

And now Allan had been the one to go and get help. What could he do? He let his gaze move from Marian to Robin. He wanted to ask if he could do something but was afraid of breaking the silence this time.

Allan didn't need to look far, he found a nurse's station near the room, and the doctor that had been treating Marian earlier happened to be there. He explained that she had woken up and was in pain, and both he and the doctor went rushing back to the room.

As the doctor came in, he started to get to work on Marian's medicines so she wasn't in so much pain, as Allan went back to standing in the corner. "You ask, and you shall recieve, M'lady" Hopeful the doctor would be able to help her.

The man who came back into the room with Allan nodded to Robin, introducing himself as Dr. Bailey before checking the tubes and machines. He then picked up a tube with a button, and explained that Marian could push it for a dose of pain reliever. She visibly relaxed after using it, and Robin relaxed with her, thanking him.

When the doctor turned to go, Robin was tempted to follow; he wanted to hear exactly what the man had to say about Marian's condition. However, he could not quite bring himself to leave her yet, even for a few minutes. Not yet.

She was more than happy when she had it explained to her how to stop the pain, feeling the pain slowly starting to disappear. It was taking a while, but she would get there soon. Once the doctor went to leave, Marian noticed the look on Robin's face. Squeezing his hand, she nodded after the Doctor.

"Go talk to him. For me."

So she didn't mind much and knew she would find soon. But she could tell that Robin needed to know.

Robin was glad to hear Marian's voice starting to lose the strain, but he was still hesitant to leave her. If she had merely encouraged him for his own edification, he would have refused; however, she asked for herself. Even if she had done it on purpose, knowing it would make him comply.

"I'll be quick," he promised, very carefully planting a kiss on her forehead after he stood with equal caution.

With a glance at his friends, he followed Dr. Bailey into the hall. "Excuse me." When he had the doctor's attention, he introduced himself, and then said, "I know you've spoken with our friends, but would you mind explaining to me what's happening?"

The physician glanced back toward Marian's room, before outlining the injuries Much had already told Robin about. He also said, "She lost a lot of blood; it was a near thing. It's good that your friends brought her in when they did." Robin's own blood ran cold at the assessment. Seeing this, the doctor gave him a pat on the arm and added, "But she will be fine."

Robin nodded in thanks, trying to erase the images of her dying in his arms in the desert sun, which had rushed up out of where he kept them buried in his memory. It could not happen again; she could not be brought back, only to be cut down again. Marian deserved to live. He needed her to live.

Once he regained control of his wayward memories, he verbally thanked the man, and then went back into the room.

Much stayed where he was when Robin left the room, though the temptation to follow him was strong. There was really no point, and Robin would tell him that if he did. But he did not know what he should say to Marian. He glanced at her, then over at Allan, then to the door and back to her again. Robin had shushed him, but she was more awake now. Did that mean he could speak to her?

"Does that help at all Marian? I am sure it does. I bet it is just like something Djaq would have used." There. He had said the words nice and quietly. No one could argue with that. Maybe he should get her something to cheer her up. On the way to her room he had seen a lady behind a counter who seemed to be selling flowers. But he might have to pay for them and he did not have any money. Would it be wrong to take them when they were to help someone feel better? That was a tricky one.

It was with relief that he saw Robin enter the room again from the corner of his eye. Though he had not liked the look on his face when Marian had said she was in pain. That look in Robin's eye usually preceded trouble.
