Gwen Raiden will spark your ass ([info]sparkingfreak) wrote in [info]wariscoming,

WHO: Gwen Raiden and Lindsey McDonald
WHAT: bumping into each other. Only, not literally, it is her!
WHEN: Night
WHERE: outside the club she's working in
RATING: TBD
STATUS: In progress

A relatively successful night, tips wise. Gwen had made a fair amount of cash, dancing for a few hours, enough to keep her in the motel a bit longer anyway. It was strange, how quickly she'd settled back into the old routines, her body automatically moving in time with the music as she'd peeled off items of clothing up on the stage. Other habits were back too, like the amount of alcohol she'd consumed, bought by the men all wanting a private dance, not realizing it would probably kill them to let her get that close. And just as she'd done as a teenager, Gwen had done a line of coke to counter some of the effects of the alcohol, anything to keep herself more alert, and still buzzing enough to keep the energy going on stage.

Just the one line. It wasn't a habit, just a necessity of the job.

She stepped out of the club after her last dance, needing the cool night air to help clear her head. The cash was put securely away in the inside pocket of her coat, neat bills wrapped together. She leaned back against the wall, tugging her gloves into place as she let her head rest against the stones and closed her eyes for a moment. She would just take a second to let the high of the coke finish wearing off before heading back to the motel and grabbing some sleep.

Lindsey wasn't suprised to have spotted Raiden leaning on a wall outside another seedy joint. If she really was being the self destructive poster girl this was a place to start. And he didn't feel guilty about it. He'd left, he had, but not telling her had kept her safe. Safe in the middle of the Lions Den, but safe. They'd never have killed her, they needed her and what she could do. She was the best at what she did.

He stepped out of the shadows once her eyes had closed and raised an eyebrow at the sight of her.

"Happy?"

If she was messing herself up again someone in that club was getting punched.

Gwen's eyes snapped open again at the sound of his voice before she glanced at him, annoyed.

"What do you want?" Deflecting his question with another question of her own. She adjusted her coat, her gloves, a reflex action to being near someone else. Seeing him always confused her, at one time her best friend, now she was just so angry with him. Angry with him for leaving, for coming back without telling her, for getting himself dragged into a hell dimension. All of it.

She glanced up at the neon sign of the club entrance, a tacky flashing light of bright red, with a bitter smirk.

"Like old times right?"

He stepped forward a bit not scared of her. He knew not to touch her skin so why should he fear being near her, he'd been near her before. More than once.

"I want to figure you out. Again. Because this bull, this 'I can't be touched so I can't possibly have friends or a better life than a seedy strip joint?' I talked you out of that before so please don't tell me I gotta do it again"

He smirked just slightly, there was always the rest of the reason she might have been pissed at him.

"Or have you not forgiven me for leaving without telling you yet, or coming back without telling you, or hooking up with the Liason. Getting close with any of this Raiden"

Gwen smiled with an almost poisoned sweetness. "Hey, if you want to hook up with vapid bitches, that's your problem. Why the hell would I care if your tastes were that bad?"

It was grating though, she'd stuck with him through the Darla phase, that was understandable at least, but Eve? Seriously? No one grated on Gwen's nerves quite like the Liaison bitch. With her insincerity and her 'sweetie's. Made Gwen want to spark her every time.

"In case you hadn't noticed, I got a motel to pay for and I'm not exactly qualified to do anything other than steal or dance," she arched an eyebrow. "And there's not anything worth stealing in this town, so get off my back, alright?" A small crackle of electricity traveled down her neck and over her shoulder until it disappeared under her trench coat, leather of course.

"Why don't you just go off and do your own thing, you're good at that."

Yeah Raiden hated Eve, that wasn't news to her. That was obvious to all. But honestly. He couldn't think about that right now. Not really, because here they were in a different world. "She isn't that bad. She's...difficult sometimes but I actuall

y care about her if that means anything. You do remember about caring right? How that works"

More typical Raiden bullshit, get off her back, leave her alone, she would work on her own and everything would be fine. She worked alone!.

"You can stay with me, A law qualification is what it is and this place has a bar exam same as any other, one I passed. So I get a job and we get a place. You think I'm gonna abandon you again so you turn back to stripping before I have time to find my feet in this place. Real nice"

Getting sarcastic with her about caring now. Gwen actually rolled her eyes. "What's that?" She retorted. "I tried caring once, see there was this guy that I really did care about, but you know, he upped and left me without a second thought so see how well that didn't work out for me?" She shook her head, almost disgusted.

"And Eve's a bitch. I didn't like her before, and then I found out she screwed Angel. Mystical influence or not, she still cheated on you, and I don't understand how you can be okay with that."

Honestly, she didn't even know what she was more angry with Eve about, her damn annoying attitude or the cheating on Lindsey. God, her head was confusing sometimes.

"Don't," her gray eyes flashed angrily. "Don't pretend I was ever more than just a job for you. I don't need you to save me, I can get by on my own, even if it is taking my clothes off for quick cash."

She really could be a closed off emotionally stunted idiot sometimes. It was why they'd gotten on so well.

"Without a second thought? Yeah Raiden I just gave a giant screw you to the partners so thought afterward, lets go find the one person in this damn city I still care about and say my tearful goodbyes before riding off into the sunset. I was protecting you. And don't insult me by telling me I didn't need to. I was keeping them from hounding you forever over where I was. But fine, believe what you want. Cause I don't intend to explain it to you again"

Cheating, with Angel. Yeah that still sort of grated at him but what could he say.

"Two reasons, One, it actually was a Mystical influence, and she has officially confirmed I'm better, and two, well she's not human, not even close, she sees things differently but she loves me. Annoying or not."

There she went again with the closed off attitude.

"You were more than a job for me. Much more. Hell Raiden you were the closest I came to giving a damn about anyone in LA. The closest maybe ever"

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

"They hounded me anyway," Gwen retorted. "I had the psychics going through my head a few times trying to find out where you were, I had to deal with freaking Lilah and her bitch attitude and Nathan was still convinced I'd found some way to hide from the psychics so kept on at me for months. And then, then," her voice rose slightly, angrily. "Then I find out, through the office gossip that you'd been back in town but had been sent to one of the hell dimensions." She shook her head bitterly. "I spent years not knowing if you were alive or dead and found out too late where you were, when there wasn't a damn thing I could do to help you. God."

She turned away, frustrated, before a nearby street lamp flared for a moment. Gwen had to breathe deeply a couple of times to get her emotions, and her powers, back under control.

"You could do better than her," she muttered. She wanted to roll her eyes and comment how of course Lindsey would be better in bed, but given that her experience consisted of two kisses and one screw, she couldn't exactly talk.

"I missed you, you know that?" She looked up at him angrily before turning away again. "I fucking missed you."

"And I'm sorry about that, but they didn't kill you. If you'd known and they found you'd kept it from them? They'd have killed you. So I'm still not sorry. Then when I got back, things just...I got caught up in it all, seeing it all through. And it was better you didn't know."

Why was so she so fixated on Eve, on weather he could do better than her or not, Eve had suprised him and they were never gonna be forever because the things they'd been doing, eventually he would have gotten himself killed, but he'd planned for that too. Another reason he'd maybe pushed Raiden away.

"I know...and I did miss you too. I really did. So can we talk like grown ups so I can work out what wound you back up in a place like this. Cause I hope its not just me."

"I would have helped you, you know," Gwen stated. But then he probably did already know that, which was why he'd stayed away. Which hurt more than a kick in the ribs, but she knew how damn stubborn he could be. If he thought he'd been doing the right thing, nothing she'd ever say would convince him otherwise.

"Don't give yourself too much credit," she smirked mirthlessly, glad to be off the topic of Lindsey's bitch girlfriend. "I needed money, simple as. This place, didn't ask for ID and I can provide my own costume, like a whole lotta liquid latex for lap dances, which speaking of, I've still gotta shower to make sure the rest of it's come off."

She shrugged casually, most definitely come down from the coke. "Lindsey, you know I'm good for two things, dancing and stealing. Nothing worth taking around here and you remember how good I look wrapped around a pole."

"I know you'd have helped, hell you were trying to bust me out when we got here remember?" He'd been doing the right thing, keeping her out of it and she'd never be able to persuade him he should have done any different.

But then she kept talking, about a topic he really didn't approve of, He didn't need to know that, any of that. He pretty much knew how she went about her stripping. But really she didn't need to provide the detail that only served to make him want to carry on into the club and start swinging. And there was everything else that came with the job.

"How good you look doesn't come into it. You're better than this remember. I got you out. And its not just for money you're doing this. You don't want to get involved with this war do you. Scared you might actually make some friends. Maybe even start to care about people"

She was gonna do this anyway, unless he gave her a reason not to.

"You're pretty good on computers, why don't you work with me?"

"I would have totally managed to bust you out, for the record," Gwen stated before she smirked. "And you know, if you think about it, it was the most amazing bust out ever because, I mean, look around," she made a show of glancing at their surroundings. "Are we, or are we not, no longer in your cell?"

And if they were now in a different dimension to his bitch girlfriend who wasn't even treating him right, then that was an added bonus.

She barely managed to resist rolling her eyes at the way he was about her job. He'd always had an issue with the stripping, for reasons she'd never understood.

"Yeah, you got me out, and into a world where qualifications and being a freak didn't matter. That world's not here, so now, I gotta stick with what I know. And this war? Is nothing to do with me," she shook her head, looking more sad than frustrated. "I tried the good fight thing once, in LA. When up against the Beast. Kinda didn't go so well, what with the Angelus issue and all. I'm not war fighting material. As for caring about people, I'm staying away to protect them."

She raised an eyebrow, laughing slightly, actually amused this time.

"Work with you? Doing what?"

"Sure you would. Out of Wolfram and Hart in the middle of the day when Angel was around. Well if anyone could have my money was on you babe" But as it turned out she was right and he was technicly no longer in the cell. Dimensional hopping being what it was. But he wasn't about to admit that to her. "Smartass"

War was nothing to do with her? "Do these demons or do these demons not want us to poke at. Do you or do you not have suspiciously godlike power, that they could use to fry people if they possessed you. That makes it your war"

Staying away to protect them. Yeah he'd never buy that. As for what she would be doing working for her.

"Like a...I don't know...secretary"

She was going to spark him.

"Way too easy. Angel's totally clueless, I'd have managed it," Gwen stuck her tongue out at him before tugging off one glove so she could peel a scrap of the latex from her neck, examining it a moment before tossing it to one side. "And you love my ass."

She rolled her eyes with a scowl. "These demons are just being a pain. I want nothing to do with their war and my power, suspiciously god like or not, is not theirs to play with." Playing nice with people, team work. All the things she hated. She'd tried it, half heartedly maybe, but she'd tried and it hadn't exactly been a roaring success.

And did he seriously just say?

He had.

Oh he was in trouble now.

She flicked a brief spark of energy from her still ungloved hand, just enough to sting slightly on his cheek.

"I think I'd rather strip for a living."

"He is clueless, and generally a dumbass, But some of the team are a little less dumb. But maybe you would have managed it"

He was saying nothing about the loving or not of her ass. Thoughts like that generally got him in trouble.

"You don't get a say in it being theirs, way that Ruby puts it, demons can just waltz in and take you over. Will you at least wear one of those protective charms. You're not adverse to them, working with the firm."

He was cut off from his thoughts with the inevitible sparking. Typical. He'd been mostly serious too "Oh come on its more demeaning than taking your clothes of for old perverted men?, You and me make a good team. And you could buy little skirts" he added with a grin

"Some of them may have a brain cell or two, but it's not like any of them would have expected it, so I'd have totally won," she was supremely confident in her abilities, bordering on arrogant. Okay, a lot arrogant, but it was an earned arrogance.

"Okay, fine, when I'm not on stage, I'll wear the damn charm thing, alright?" She shrugged sarcastically. "It doesn't exactly go with the style for work."

Dammit, he was giving her that grin. The one which made her all conflicted with wanting to laugh and spark him again. "Right," she drawled with a smirk. "Little skirts. Want a lap dance too while I'm at it? Gotta admit, not seeing much difference between that and the dancing. At least the pervs in there are open about it."

"I'll just have to rock salt the entrances when you're on stage then won't I". he told her more than a little proud of himself, but few people could argue with him, he could handle DA's he could handle Raiden in a mood. And he really would rocksalt the entrances.

But then his brain short circuted just a little, short skirts and lapdances. She was kidding, she had to be kidding. He laughed it off.

"I'm better looking than the pervs, and I'm sure lapdance go against several dozen Employment Laws"

He wasn't going to think about the jokey offer of a lapdance, which had been a joke. Just a joke between friends. Maybe she'd sparked him too hard and he was hallucinating this bit.

Gwen laughed, partially in disbelief. "You would turn up at the club every night to rock salt the entrances?" There was a brief pause before she came to one conclusion. "You'd better tip. Good money too. And pay for some private dances with me, to make sure I get the cash."

There was just a bit of her disappointed that he was turning down the lapdance. Though god knew why, it wasn't like she wanted to give him a proper lapdance, with the latex and everything.

Right?

"The Employment laws suck," she stated with a smirk before reaching out with her gloved hand to brush some hair back from his face, pretending to eye him critically. "And you may be better looking than the pervs. Maybe."

He would. He really really would. If she had to work in one of these places she wasn't gonna get possessed when she was on stage, Maybe he could salt the stage.

"Won't deny that. Occasional staring at secretaries little skirts is entirely part of the job of..."

Brushing hair away from his eyes, she was still joking with him, she had to be, but things were getting into an interesting new zone talking of lapdances and short skirts and Raiden, he'd never considered lapdances and Raiden, he'd never let himself.

"Just maybe" he found himself saying.

"Now lets get you home....to your motel...to...sleep and...yeah. Its not far from here right"

"Knew you were a perv," Gwen rolled her eyes affectionately. God, how was it he could do that to her? Make her so angry one minute, but affectionate the next? Stupid, confusing Lindsey.

"Okay, definitely," she conceded. She was joking around, of course she was. Just her and Lindsey, joking as they always did. Joking about them, it was what they did, it worked for them. So why was she suddenly caring about how he reacted to jokes about lapdances?

She didn't get it. She wasn't sure she wanted to.

"You okay?" She half laughed. "You're kinda seeming flustered or something." Which was dumb, Lindsey didn't get flustered, ever. "It's a couple of blocks from here. And I should get back. To.. sleep." Not offer lapdances. Liquid latex covered lapdances.

"Shut up Raiden" he joked, punching her lightly in the arm and moving the final few steps closer to her, needing to get things back to friendly. Not about lapdances. Not about bendy practicly contoritonist electro thieves doing lapdances.

"I'm fine, I am gonna walk you back to your motel and get the rock salt going till Sam gets me some of those amulets, which you will then wear. But sleep, sleep is a good thing for definite" She'd be tired after the stripping.

No, not stripping, the job, the job she did that he disapproved of. Thinking of it like that was much less likely to make him punch something. And the only thing near him was the alley wall. And that would hurt.

"Come on babe lets get out of here."

"Make me," she joked back, sticking her tongue out at him. This whole thing with them was just weird. They were weird. Or maybe this was actually normal, she just wasn't experienced enough with how to react with people to know it.

"You're being some kinda gentleman and walking me home?" She laughed. "Okay, when did that even happen? What happened to the days of letting me make my own way home after we drank too much?"

Sleep was tempting though. The come down, combined with all the energy of dancing for hours had left her feeling pretty exhausted.

"Fine, sleeping. I'll even let you watch me get into bed to prove I'm being a good girl. Satisfied?"

"Back then we didn't have possessing demons ready to hop in to you and spark up a storm in the downtown city area" he told her as the walked from the alley, him keeping an eye on her, she was starting to wilt. He hoped against hope that was just the sign of a busy night.

Bed. Watch her in bed?

"When've you ever been a good girl, just humour me and play along with this alright. I like you just as you are without the crazy demon possession thing being a risk"

And not watching her getting in to bed. That meant undressing and all that, and she was his friend, people didn't watch friends do that. Not bendy electro thief ones.

"No one's going to possess me," Gwen laughed. "Or spark up any storms. It's not like I'm exactly doing anything interesting apart from killing the occasional person."

Her nose was itching slightly from the line and the added energy was entirely gone. She'd have to do a bit more tomorrow night, make sure she'd still have enough of a buzz to get home before she collapses entirely.

"I can totally be a good girl, if I'm asked nicely and look, see here me, playing along," she even started walking to prove her point, making her tired feet move forward before she glanced over her shoulder at him.

"So, you like me as I am huh?"

"Damn right no ones gonna possess you. I'm not gonna let it happen, but don't go getting all cocky either. I know you."

He also knew that kill, accidental as it was bothered her more than she would ever let on. But now wasn't the time to go into all that. Not at all.

"I like you fine as you are, you think I've been seeing you as a job all this time. You're a friend Raiden, a pain in the ass, full of herself, most times bitchy but always fun, friend. Deal with it. And be a good girl, least till I get you home"

It took him a few seconds to work out how that sounded outside his head.

"To your home. Where your staying, the motel."

Some smooth talking lawyer.

"And the demons won't dare argue with you right?" Gwen laughed playfully before putting on a 'who me?' expression.

"Don't go getting sentimental on me," she blushed slightly, embarrassed, before she quickly found some ground for her to jump on that wasn't soppy in any way.

"Aww, well, I can be a naughty girl for you in the motel if you really ask nicely."

She'd said it just because he'd walked right into it. Nothing more. Honestly, he'd been telling the electric stripper thief to be a good girl, he was almost begging to be teased like that. That was all there was to it.

The lights of the motel were in sight and Gwen actually felt almost awkward for a moment, for a reason she didn't, couldn't even begin to understand.

"No they wouldn't. Especially since I'm getting pretty okay at that exorcism thing, Just go along with it Raiden please, for me"

Sentimental, nah they couldn't have that. He was about to roll his eyes at her when she spoke again, and he honestly nearly tipped up.

"Raiden you..."

The motel, they were near the motel. The safe zone where he could leave her without naughtyness, cause that couldn't happen, cause he'd die. Otherwise...

Otherwise nothing she was his friend.

"...I'll come back over with salt, get you all set up..."

He should go, going now would be the smart move. So why wasn't he moving, and why was that comment sticking in his head.

"You would be getting good at that exorcism, show off," Gwen muttered, smirking slightly.

And then they were at her motel. The motel where she'd been staying. And there was talk of rock salt and whatever, which she really hoped she wouldn't have to clean up.

"Right, so you'll be off then and maybe I'll see you..." she paused and swallowed. "I mean, I'm working tomorrow night and..."

God, what the hell was wrong with her and why was she seemingly unable to get even the simplest sentence out.

He was standing so close to her, closer than anyone else ever dared to get and she'd forgotten what that felt like.

"Or, you know, if you wanted to come in, maybe raid the mini bar, make sure I go to bed..." Maybe have a lapdance afterall, maybe see her being good or naughty or whatever and this was confusing. Why was this so confusing? It was new and Gwen wasn't sure she liked it.

"Its Latin. I'm good enough at Latin to raise dusted vamps I'm sure I can do the exorcism."

They reached the door, Lindsey actually daring to brush a hand down her clothed arm before stepping back slightly.

"I gotta go get the rocksalt from my motel. Then come back and set it up, maybe then I could have a drink...one drink. Maybe"

He needed to go, very quickly go back to his nearby motel and get the rock salt. Why had he chosen a different one again?

"I won't be long" he told her stepping back a few more paces into the dark

Gwen felt a shiver down her spine at the way he brushed a covered part of her arm.

"Right, salt," she half smiled before stepping into the room, easing off her coat, to drape over the back of the chair.

She could stay awake, for one drink. Just the one. Maybe.

But it seemed her body had other ideas and now she was back, she just ached for sleep. She moved virtually on autopilot, peeling off her clothes and leaving them discarded on the floor before climbing under the single sheet on her bed. She fell asleep almost instantly, totally drained by the night's work.

It didn't take Lindsey long to get back to his motel and grab the rock salt, he wondered though as he hurried more than he needed to back over to Raiden's why exactly he was hurrying. Beers with an old friend, that had to be it. Not the promises of lapdances.

He got to the door, knocking softly before realizing she'd left it open for him,

Because she was asleep, passed out asleep under one ridiculously thin sheet, and Raiden slept...

He quickly turned and started pouring the salt, windows and doors just like Sam had said, not looking at Raiden, not looking at Raiden. He couldn't. He would't.

Job done Lindsey practicly bolted from the motel being sure to lock the door behind him. He hadn't expected that, but her being asleep, the lack of drinking.

That was a good thing.

It was.

It definitely was.
