No warning. No previous signs. No explanation. But everyone's story has a middle bit that sounds the same. It involves the mentioning of a "blinding white light" and then the "feeling of the worst hangover imagineable." This is how they came to Penny Lane. Penny Lane is a main street in a place that doesn't exist; least not any map. It's a picture perfect sight from the sixties mod culture and yet modern day novelties can be found. The sun always sets a different color. the clouds tinted shades as well - and at night the stars sparkle to a inaudible universal symphony. Penny Lane eventually turns into a (dirt) long and winding road, that runs thru strawberry fields and ends at the Sea of Time. On the edge of the strawberry fields, nestled at the brim of the woods, are caves that burrow underground. At the other end of the Lane there's a different street visible, even people going about their lives, but they never seem to take notice of those in Penny Lane. No matter which way you try to go; there's no escaping Penny Lane no matter what. Machines that travel through time and space don't work, and those who can open portals between worlds at the wave of a hand find their power lacking. You can run and run and run - but you'll end up back where you started. You can try navigating the green waters of the Sea of Time - but you'll be dead before you lose sight of land. Braving the woods passed the strawberry fields only brings talk from the lonely locals of murderous creatures called Blue Meanies. Some people go mad. Some try to find a way out. Some cope with the better life they've been given. But they're all together now. And this is their story. |

Voldemort is dead – has been for almost seven years now – the war should have been over that night long ago when Harry Potter did what no one dared believe he would do. The war, however, didn't end, but went on. Regrouping under Bellatrix and Rodolphus Lestrange, the Death Eaters kept fighting and with the Ministry gone and the Minister for Magic killed, the wizarding world was thrown into chaos. From this chaos, two new factions were born. One group (under the leadership of Minerva McGonagall) wanted to open wizarding society to a decidedly suspicious Muggle world, whilst the others wanted to close off the wizarding world completely from Muggle influence and seek strength in isolation. With a brutal attack destroying Diagon Alley that left a part of London burning, the two factions of light realised that they must start working together to defeat the Death Eaters. The game began at this turning point of the war - the point where the side of light finally has a chance to win. But there is still a long way to go. Can these two factions put aside their differences to finally win this war, or will they dissolve into their own fighting, giving the Death Eaters a chance to overcome? Which side will your character support? |
The Game |
Beyond the Darkness RPG is a role-playing game based on the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling. The setting takes place seven years after Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows ends but is canon compliant only to Half Blood Prince (as the game began before the release of book seven). If you're looking for a game where player influence on the main plot is high and the moderators are willing to listen to your suggestions, then this is the game for you. One year running and still going strong, we see a bright future for the game. With plot-lines running far beyond the end of the war, we're not going anywhere for a long while. We are looking for creative and active players who want to build a story for their characters in this far from perfect world. All levels of experience are welcome, from the players who have never played an RPG before, to those who have played for several years. Game officially started on February 2nd 2007. |
The Characters |
At the moment we're actively looking to recast several important characters, as well as seeking those we feel could develop the over all game. The list of available characters is still large and varied however, so don't hesitate to take a look. Among those we're seeking to recast are: Remus Lupin, Justin Finch-Fletchley, Charlie and Arthur Weasley...among many others. Examples of other needed characters would be Lee Jordan, Rita Skeeter or another canon character who is involved with the media in some way as this world is in great need of some way to spread news. We're also looking for a Death Eater who could function as a spy within Upper Slaughter. This needs to be someone who could be recruited by Severus (so someone who trusts him), and also someone clever enough to manoeuvre around Rodolphus and Bellatrix - which is not an easy task. |

What difference does it make to the dead, the orphans, and the homeless, whether the mad destruction is wrought under the name of totalitarianism or the holy name of liberty and democracy? -- Gandhi The world is not what it once was; though, it is trying desperately to get back to that place. Lord Voldemort has been banished for nearly a decade, but all has not been calm. A new bad boy rose through the ranks to try to accomplish a political take over that would eradicate the Wizarding World of the Mugglebornes. That was nearly a year ago. As of last summer (mid-July 2003), the Ministry of Magic is back to normal and the new generation has climbed the hierarchy to hold prominent positions in the Ministry of Magic. Death Eaters who can be linked to their crimes are in Azkaban or on the run. While the Order of the Phoenix (directed by Harry Potter) is still technically an organization, it is all but useless now. The members are too preoccupied with their families and jobs. Everything is becoming normal again. How long can that last? How long can Harry Potter's generation muddle through the world without complete chaos following them? What new connections will be made now that not everyone is preparing for a war? HERMIONE GRANGER, DRACO MALFOY, DEATH EATERS, former Hufflepuffs, former Ravenclaws, former Slytherins, former Gryffindors. |

As it is known to mankind now when death grips a lifeform they perish and are sent into the earth where they will reincarnate into something beautiful and provide the world with the always looping circles of life and death. But, what if those always interlocking circles were bent and broken apart leaving the Valley of the Light forever separated from the Land of the Dead never to continue on the chain reactions of life, death and reincarnation. However this does leave the question: Where does one go when they die if these linked circles are torn apart? A question that has a solution only known to those who have passed on to see their new land. Enter the Netherworld. A sub-world once connected to the state of the living, the Netherworld is an area with many realms all connected to each other by strange portals. Although the Netherworld in itself is mostly a neutral land, there are certain realms that seem to be more of a threat than the others. It is true that to be in this world one must be dead and therefore shouldn't have the need for fear of any things that could be even remotely ominous - but with death comes fear and with fear comes pain. Dead one might be, food you may not need but even in the Netherworld blood and pain are as real as the living. There are four different realms joined together in the Netherworld, each one with their own creatures native to its grounds - it is up to those in the realms to decided for themselves which creatures are friend and which are foe. Judge not by their looks entirely for such things can be deceiving. Shelter can be found if you look hard enough in areas such as caves, and holes. They can even be built if one is creative enough to try. Food and drink are not necessities in the Netherworld as there is no hunger to be felt. There is only one large difference between the living and the dead carried into the Netherworld - the dead have no hearts. The similarities are as simple as if one is cut they will bleed and feel pain. Cold and warm tempuratures have effects on the dead although it is minor. Injuries sustained in death are carried over into the Netherworld as permanent scars. There is but one rule to the land that allows you to pass through realms so freely: the dead cannot visit the land of the living under any circumstances. The living may, however, visit the dead. Perhaps - if one is lucky enough to be called by the living for a meeting, that is. |

Things are tense at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Rumors of Voldemort's return are being whispered amongst the students, voices hushed and nervous as the latest bit of information makes the rounds. Fear has settled heavily on many shoulders, quickly bringing uncertainty and mistrust to an already divided school. Who belongs to which side? Are there spies amongst the students? What will happen next, who will die next? Can anything be done? The school may be safe from the outside wizarding world, but are the students safe from each other? The generations-long battle between the houses hasn't gotten better, and current tensions have done nothing but elevate the rivalries to a new level. To make matters worse, an anonymous group of four girls have stepped things up, creating a vicious gossip paper that periodically and sporadically details information about their fellow students. Details that only close friends would know. Details that no one is ever happy about having shared with the entire student body. It's called Bavardage. No one knows who publishes it, or how information is gathered for it. The only certain thing about it is that it is another source of trouble and uncertainty. With the teachers seemingly unable to stop new issues from going out and the issues getting progressively nastier and revealing more secrets, the last, thin threads of trust amongst the houses are fraying quickly. Friendships are being challenged and broken, and new, dangerous liaisons are being built. The general consensus is that the girls must be stopped: but how? The purebloods are getting snobbier every year, the halfbloods are losing recognition for their minds and intellect and the muggleborns are treated as welfare cases on scholarship from the British Prime Minister. The whole student body is stuck in a downward spiral, trapped by an endless ring of rumors and lies. Libel and slander are not punishable, but instead encouraged. There's nothing more important than bringing down anyone suspected of being responsible for Bavardage. People are getting hurt, and not just by the paper. With no one able to trust anyone else and constant fights breaking out, the search for the guilty is getting nowhere extremely fast. There's war brewing, and not just outside of Hogwarts. Somewhere within the castle that is supposed to be one of the few safe refuges left in the wizarding world, four girls are playing a dangerous game with their fellow students. Will the school collapse onto itself, or will the youth of the wizarding world be able to band together and overcome the fear, distrust, and rivalries that are threatening to tear Hogwarts apart? BAVARDAGE. Will you end up on the top, or on the bottom? Application|Available/Taken Characters|Played by list|Rules |

Located just four miles out of Napa, California, The Sutton Academy has become the place for the rich (and sometimes famous) to send their children. Boys and girls come from all over the country (and in a few cases, the world), to receive a first rate education. At least, that's what the brochures say. The truth is, The Sutton Academy has become more of a 24-7 babysitter for rich kids rather than a school. The price tag is high, but it's a rarity that kids fail out, or get kicked out of Sutton, something their parents know when they sign their checks each year. |

What if the town you lived in was filled with the supernatural? What if your next door neighbor was a vampire? How about a werewolf as your 4th period English Teacher? And that girl at the super market? Yeah, she can read your mind. Welcome to Mysteria where the strange is normal. In a town that was founded by supernaturals, it's generally accepted by the humans that live there that their neighbors are...a bit eccentric. Everyone has a secret here and what happens in Mysteria, stays in Mysteria. Mysteria is an original rp set in the supernatural/paranormal genre. We are a game with original characters in an original setting.
