RP: Chasing Pavements?
Who: Eleanor and Gaspard
When: 28. July 2009, evening
Where: V-Bar
What: It’s been more than two weeks since Gaspard left and Eleanor needs to get out of her head and her flat
Warnings: TBD
Fifteen days ago, Eleanor had returned home from work to find Gaspard’s flat empty, save for the cats and Burrito. That in itself hadn’t been particularly odd, since her boyfriend did occasionally venture outside on his own. But when he hadn’t returned around dinner time and his preferred cat-sitter had shown up to feed the cats, she had known: he wasn’t coming back today and most likely not tomorrow. This wasn’t the first time it had happened. While she had worked as his assistant he had disappeared for a couple of weeks a few times, with nothing more than a note or message to feed the cats. Sometimes not even that. This was, however, the first time it had happened while they had been together.
She had gone back to her own flat, then, suddenly feeling like an intruder in the home she had spent most nights in since January. It wasn’t her place to take over his dealings while he was gone; that was the duties of his new assistant. In a way, she understood. Learning that he was the father of adult twins was a huge deal for him and he obviously needed to digest it on his own time. But it still hurt to be left behind and she was frustrated that she hadn’t been able to do enough to help him out here. Eleanor had spent that evening questioning her decision to work for Mister Zabini instead of Gaspard. Maybe she should have just stayed here, but that would have felt wrong, too. Wouldn’t it? She was pretty sure it would.
The first week, she had gone upstairs to the penthouse every morning before work, just to see if he was back, and again when work was over. And each time she had found herself disappointed, even if she kept telling herself she wasn’t surprised about it. It had affected her mood and her ability to stay completely focused at work, so she had stopped, and instead hoping figuring that he would seek her out when he was ready to do so. A week later, and that still hadn’t happened.
Eleanor had considered asking Mister Zabini for a couple of days off, just to get her head back on track, had even gone as far as approaching him at work, only to realise how stupid that would be. She couldn’t let him have to deal with a temp, just because she had trouble with her lovelife, and if she needed to get away, she could go over the weekend. Yes, that was what she would do, so she had set out to find a place to go for the weekend. The problem with that was that it was summer, which left very few places free on such short notice, and those left, well… she didn’t have that kind of money.
Friday night, though, karaoke night at V-Bar… She had sung at home, pretty much constantly, but it just wasn’t the same, so after a long soak in the tub, she had gotten dressed in a simple, flowered summer dress and had done her hair and make-up… without overdoing it. She had even considered calling Charlotte to hear if she and the twins would like to join her but no. She didn’t really want a night out. She just wanted that free feeling of standing on the stage and then go back home and… something.
The song had more or less jumped out at her when she had gone to sign up, and now she could finally close her fingers around the microphone and just let her voice take over from here.
