Entry tags:megan jones, roger davies

Who: Roger Davies + Meg Jones
When: June 28th 2003 Afternoon
Where: Roger's flat
What: The best friend between two former lovers

Having just finished re-wrapping the bloody bandages around his left knee, Roger Davies shoved his first aid kit to the end of his couch before grabbing a licorice wand from the jar on his coffee table. His mother would have most definitely scolded him for the unsanitary conduct.

Roger! Wash your hands!

Chomping away, Roger had completely forgotten that he had invited Meg over (rather, he conceded to her firm request to come over) and had completely forgotten that he had left the door open because he always had trouble hearing her little hands rapping away at the door. His brown eyes trailed over the white strips of cloth wrapped around his leg, and he winced slightly at the memory of nearly spiraling out of control at his last drift meet before deciding that he was close enough to the ground to leap off of his broom onto the dirt.

Megan was well aware of Roger's lifestyle. While she didn't condone his reckless behavior in the least- though she did have to admit, it was kind of cool- she had passed the 'Roger, what are you thinking?!' stage, and was moving on to the 'please be careful' phase. Needless to say, when she walked through the door of his flat, she was not pleased.

"Roger!" she exclaimed, paling slightly at the sight of bloodied bandages. "What have you done now?!"

Starting slightly, Roger thought a countless number of things within a split second as Megan's voice suddenly stormed through his dreamy thoughts.

How did they find me?
Is she psychic?
Will I choke on my candy?
Does Meg know how to break in 'cause that would be kind of cool...
Will Spencer remember to bring back my broom kit?
Oh shit, Meg was supposed to come over.
I did leave the door open, didn't I?
Etcetera, etcetera...

Swallowing, or gulping rather, Roger hesitated momentarily before smiling gingerly, "I fell?" Scratching the side of his face, he seemed to be at a loss for words. "Y'know Meg, if you came and saw one of the competitions you wouldn't be so scared for me."

This was not entirely true.

"More importantly, how's the no magic business going on? I haven't really been hanging out with, er, witches lately so..." Roger tilted his chin down a bit, raising his eyebrows up at Meg earnestly, his lips in a twisted line.

"You fell?!" That left far too much to the imagination, especially since Megan liked to think that Roger had enough sense to get some of his injuries looked at and what she saw now were leftover. She liked to think that he could take care of himself, but, as with most of the male gender, she had serious doubts at times. "Or I'd be even more terrified," she told him with a pout. "Why couldn't you pick a nice, safe hobby? Like... stamp collecting or something?"

The Hufflepuff graduate's face paled at the mention of her magic, or lack there of. She was not happy about the current situation. In fact, she was so stressed about it that she'd asked her ex-boyfriend to spend the night and was now seriously considering Seamus as a room mate. "I- well. I've become so dependent on magic, that it's hard without it. I suppose I'm more fortunate than some. I was brought up with a lot of Muggle things, so I guess I'm used to some of it."

Choosing to steer Meg away from topics related to his injuries and other negative aspects of his job, Roger stood up and began to encourage her to open up about other things. More important things, might he add! He was right to do so. There was absolutely no self interest in it. Scratching the back of his head, he half coughed and nodded at her stamp collecting suggestion before moving on.

"I can't imagine what it's like. I mean," he quirked his lips down and shrugged, "I don't rely on magic that much, to be honest. But it's just this knowledge at the back of my head, knowing I have it if I need it. I don't know what I'd do if I didn't have that safety net there."

"I heard Spencer came over," Roger wiggled his eyebrows, leaning against one of his book shelves. He wasn't smiling, though. Mechanical Engineering. The SCIENCE of the Broom, Vol. 56. Flight in Charmed Air. Running his hands over the titles, he flicked a book out and idly flipped through it. His demeanor was light, his tone easy going, but his eyes were steady.

Megan did her best to seem unaffected by Roger's words. In truth, that fact had been pricking at the back of her mind ever since her spells had started going haywire. She did her best not to think of it, but with Hannah disappearing like she had, it was rather hard not to. "Yeah," she answered weakly. "It's hard."

Her cheeks flushed crimson at the mention of Spencer. "You... heard about that?" she managed to get out through her embarrassment. "It wasn't- I mean, it was right after Hannah had disappeared, and I didn't have any magic."

Roger had met Spencer Capper years and years and years before the blond had ever met Megan Jones. And thus, he had a deep understanding of the Gryffindor and how the little Hufflepuff had consequently changed him. And, although he liked to consider that he and Meg had gotten pretty close while his best friend and the witch were dating, his obligations did lie somewhere else first.

"No, yeah, definitely. Spencer's a top notch guy, I know he'd come over right away." Roger began to reorganize his books chronologically instead of by category and genre. He did it manually, with his hands. But it wasn't to avoid rubbing magic in Meg's face-- Roger was just a manual kind of guy.

He glanced up at the short witch, and there it was again: steady eyes. The gaze was an unnerving one, from Roger, who seemed to always have trouble concentrating on one thing unless it was important. The serious kind of important. Even with the "train your eyes on the neckline of her dress and you might see something for an instant" type of important, he found his eyes flicking this way and that. But with friends, and when his life was in danger with drifting, they were that eerie still.

"Right?"

Megan's head tilted slightly as Roger began reorganizing his books. Organizing and cleaning had always been Megan's type of thing, and when she thought of Roger, organizing books in chronological order was never on the top of her list. Or the bottom for that matter.

She jolted slightly when he looked up, meeting her gaze with an intensity she wasn't used to seeing. "Y-yeah," she stumbled, feeling the need to avert her gaze. She focused her attention elsewhere, on the walls of his flat, and turned to examine a picture, glad for its location that enabled her to turn her back on him. "I shouldn't have asked him, really, but he was the first person I thought of." That in itself was proof that she and Spencer's relationship was entirely too complex, but Megan did her best not to think of that.

"But, I think I'll be getting a new room mate soon," she said quickly, desperate to get the talk away from Spencer Capper.

"You probably shouldn't have asked him," Roger agreed, although his tone was mild. "I mean, I get why you'd ask him," he added meaningfully. He cleared his throat and rubbed at his neck a bit before continuing to sort books while Meg turned away form him. "Except he'd be terrible protection. Too hotheaded, doesn't think. Would love to die epically at your feet." Though his eyes were the same, a wry smile tugged at his lips.

"Yeah, I read your journal. Y'know, f you really want some sense of normalcy with Spencer," and there, it was finally said out loud, "you shouldn't rile him up with roommates like Seamus. I mean, he's a great guy. Spencer would probably agree, but not a great roommate for little nutmeg," he raised his eyebrows.

"But I suppose you don't really care what he has to say?"

Megan frowned. The thought of Spencer being willing to throw down his life for her was one that brought on a mixture of emotions: for one, doubt. Spencer was afraid of committment, and there was no committment like dying for someone. For another, discomfort. She didn't like to think of Spencer dying for her sake, though she supposed she had invited him over. What had she done that for if not to have him there to fight for her if necessary. She blushed at her selfishness, glad Roger couldn't see her face at that moment.

Of course, that didn't last too terribly long. Megan had whirled around to stare at her friend, brows furrowed. "I-" She shouldn't care what Spencer had to say, of course, but even if she did, Spencer hadn't said anything about it in her journal. "I- What's wrong with Seamus?" she asked. "If he's such a great guy, why wouldn't he be a good room mate?"
