Who: Terry Boot and Aidan Chambers
What: Terry comes home early, doesn't know Aidan saw him and Tracey, goes to see Aidan and things take a bad turn.
Where: A bar.
When: A couple days before Terry is actually suppose to come back to London, early evening.
Status: Complete.

Terry was happy to say his trip to Scotland had been cut short by a surprisingly cooperative Sports Department who was actually a bit interested in hosting the next sports tournament, and possibly even the next Quidditch World Cup. Things went so smoothly that Terry had to schedule to come back because he had to go discuss the next step with his superiors, but he would be in contact very soon.

Having stopped by his place and dropped his things off, Terry went over to Aidan's to tell him the good news. Finding that he wasn't there, he drove around to see if he was at one of the bars they regularly visited. Eventually finding him situated in bar a few blocks away from The Leaky Cauldron, Terry smiled and walked up to Aidan.

"Aidan." He said, grabbing the spot next to him. "I have been looking all over for you, mate. How are you doing, because I've got great news." Terry smiled, unaware there was any chance Aidan might not be very happy with him.

"It's not like I bloody planned this is advance." Terry said, suddenly very on edge. The pounding in his temple was slowly turning into a throbbing headache.

"And I was in Scotland, but I apparated back for a few hours. I just told you that!" He exclaimed, confused why Aidan wasn't listening to him.

As Aidan moved to leave, Terry got up and blocked his way. "No. You're not going to walk off and ignore this. Listen to me." He looked Aidan in the eye. "I don't fancy her, Aidan, I don't want to be with her. I was holding up my end of a promise. That's it." Terry tilted his head a little, determined and refusing to break eye contact. "Why didn't you tell me you fancied her?" The only reason Aidan would be mad, as far as Terry could tell, wasn't that he came back from Scotland for the evening, but who he came back to see.

Aidan frowned and for a moment the hurt in his face was evident before anger took over once again. "An' yer think dat makes it better, Terry? 'ow often 'ave yer seen me gettin' so worked up over a woman?" The Irishman started gesticulating without actually being aware of it.

"Not once. An' now yer tellin' me ye jist did it for 'fun'. Dat ye don't even feel for 'er." Aidan scoffed. "I guess I should be glad ye didn't promise ter sleep wi' 'er, right? 'Cause even then yd'd only be 'onourin' yer promise. How gentlemanly of ye." Aidan's voice dropped a few degrees. "How fair."

Terry just looked at Aidan for a moment, trying not to lose himself. "Aidan." His voice sounded tired, defeated almost, but he quickly covered it. "You're trying to make me feel like I did something wrong when I don't deserve to feel that way, and I'm not going to let you. She asked me, I said yes." He shrugged. "I'm not making excuses, I don't need any."

He took in a deep breath and held his hands in front of him, as though making a barrier. "My only mistake was not realizing you liked her, so I'm sorry I haven't mastered the art of reading minds. No matter what, though, nothing happened and it never will. I don't need this from you." He paused. "And you know a promise to go dancing is very different than sleeping with someone. That's a low blow."

Terry took things very seriously when it came to his treatment of other people, his 'gentlemanliness' as it could be called.

"Ye don't need any excuses for goin'g out wi' 'er." Aidan agreed, his eyes still blazing with anger. "But doing it behind me back after ye explicitely said ye wouldn't do it - dat is low. I thought ye'd at least 'ave the decency ter let me know, so don't give me this bleedin' 'I'm such a nice bloke' attitude."

Aidan managed a rather impressive glare as he took a step forward toward the door. "An' I don't care if somethin' 'appened or not. It's the fact dat ye felt ye needed ter hide this from me."

He turned away abruptly before he did something stupid. "Now get out of me way an' leave me alone." Which was clearly irrational and selfish behaviour as Aidan was sure to admit later on. Now, however, his temper was going crazy and the Irishman was far from allowing reason coming anywhere near him.

"I'm not giving you any attitude, Aidan." Terry protested, blocking Aidan's way once again. "Was I suppose to write to you the moment I decided to go?" His eyes narrowed slightly as his anger was starting to grow. "And obviously I didn't have any problem telling you tonight once it came up, did I? My apologies for it not being the number one thing on my mind. That doesn't mean I was hiding it from you. If I was hiding something from you, I don't think I would've spent an hour trying to bloody find you today."

Aidan's eyebrows rose sceptically. "No, ye're right. Why would it occur ter ye that I'm bloody smitten wi' Tracey after ye saw me reaction an' even inquired about it! How could it possibly be wrong ter meet her nevertheless without even tellin' me. Or sendin' me a bloody owl afterward just ter tell me about it."

Aidan shook his head and this time pushed decisively past his friend. "It's me bad. I trusted ye."

"You're not the only one who was smitten with her, Aidan!" Terry shot back. "Remember the conversation we had when we both realized we'd both been around the same girl? You're not the only one around here with feelings, you know. Maybe not for her anymore, but at the time." He put his hands to his head in an attempt to help himself think properly. "I'm just a person, Aidan. I didn't think much of it so I went back to Scotland and went back to work, alright?"

Terry, in one final attempt, pushed his way through and blocked Aidan once again, arms out. "Maybe it wasn't the smartest choice, going, but there was no harm intended on anyone, especially you. One small bad choice and everything we've been through, all those years of friendship are gone? That doesn't sound like anything but you refusing to listen and be irrational."

"Ye didn't think much of it." Aidan scoffed and shook his head. "Obviously not if ye change yer affections that easily."

He shook his head, suddenly sad as his brain finally managed to remind Aidan that Terry wasn't to blame. Still, Aidan's guts insisted that his friend had always been a talented charmer and if he tried to Aidan was convinced that Terry could make Tracey break up with him easily. He just wasn't as...charming or alluring or whatever it was that attracted women to Terry. Aidan was just himself and more often than not that was not quite enough to impress.

"I just cant believe ye 'failed ter tell me', Terry." Again Aidan looked sad. "I trusted ye when ye said ye wouldn't meet her again." His voice dropped to a whisper. "Ye have no idea how it felt seein' ye two." And fact was that Aidan quite plainly lacked the words to describe it and he was too ashamed of himself to even hint at the desperate things it had prompted him to do in order to get rid of that picture (like chatting up some blonde in a bar).

An uncomfortable, sad feeling of defeat washed over Terry. It was as though everything had been drained from him. Terry stuffed his hands in his pockets and simply tightened his jaw. "I spent more time with her and realized she wasn't the girl I'm looking for." A simple shrug accompanied the words. There was no attempt to make Aidan understand, just a face forced to be void of emotion and a sick feeling in his stomach.

Seeing Aidan look so sad made him want to somehow take blame for something, but there was nothing to take blame for. Aidan was being irrational, and Terry's nerves were at their ends. "I can't make you believe me, Aidan, but everything I said was true, and honestly what happened. I'd of thought that you, of all people..." He trailed off and sighed. "I'd of thought that you'd know better than to think I'd do something so low as to purposely try to hurt you like that. Guess I was wrong, eh?"

He started to turn to leave, then stopped and turned back to Aidan. "You know, I would preferred you'd just have barged in and hit me or something." Preferred it to this, at least.

"Next time." Aidan shrugged and turned away. "Oh, an' I already told ye that ye don't need ter keep up appearances. If ye would have cared, ye would have sent a line. Anything. Not let things fester like this."

His eyes still narrowed and his throat curiously tight, Aidan pushed past Terry and went out into the cool night. He felt like hell.
