Who: Terry Boot and Aidan Chambers
What: Relaxing, talking about lots of things.
Where: Terry's flat.
Status: Incomplete.

Terry was laying on his couch, trying to read, but there was just too much going through his head. The plans with Aidan, who was suppose to be there any minute, along with the meeting with Tracey at the bar. She was certainly a woman in her own league; she liked to push back, and Terry liked that. It wasn't like he was head-over-heels though, he hardly knew the women, but he was intrigued.

Deciding to throw his book aside, Terry instead pulled out the plans for the buildings him and Aidan were using and continued looking them over.

Warehouses could be used for training areas and possibly storage, and the office buildings could be used as places to stay and storage, and meetings could be there too...

Once again Aidan found himself in a hurry as he took the last corner that separated him from Terry's flat at a run. Having spent most of his time among Muggles the Irishman still preferred walking (or running in this case) to Apparition, Floo-ing or - he shuddered at the mere thought - flying.

Upon arrival Aidan came to an abrupt halt in front of Terry's door and - instead of using the doorbell like any sane person would - opted to knock against the wood of the door with the bottle he brought.

"Come on, mate! Open up!" Aidan yelled. "I brought drinks!" That should do the trick.

Upon hearing someone banging on the door, Terry rolled his eyes. But once he heard I brought drinks! he went right for the door.

"You know you're crazy, right?" He asked, as he opened the door. "Not come on in. Drinks, eh? You're just asking for work to not get done, you know that right?" A laugh escaped Terry's lips as he closed the door behind Aidan and returned to the layouts he was looking over. "I was just starting to go over what we could use the different buildings for."

Aidan raised his eyebrows and adopted an expression of pure innocence. "Mate, ye will surely remember that this whole idea was created under th' influence av alcohol. Consider this...inspiration."

He grinned and walked into Terry's flat, giving the ground plans his friend had been working over a cursory glance. "Terrance." He said mock-seriously. "I think we need a break. Me life 'as been crazy lately an' why don't we let th' world survive on its own for one evenin' an' mind our own business?"

Aidan slumped down on the nearest couch and held up the bottles. "Fancy a drink?"

"I suppose; who knows what else we'll come up with."

Terry looked down at the plans and sighed after a moment. "Yeah, a break might be nice. Give my brain a few minutes to relax. Toss over whatever you've got." He folded the papers up and moved to the chair next to the couch.

"Actually, speaking of taking a break, er, I suppose I should tell you I've been assigned another trip for work."

"S'nice. Where are they sending ye off to?" Aidan barely raised his chin at the news, too comfortable on Terry's couch. "Demand somethin' with a beach. An' sun, ye know that bright yellow thing up in the sky that doesn't show itself over 'ere."

Aidan sighed and closed his eyes for a moment before rubbing his face tiredly. He seemed perpetually exhausted lately though he had to admit that it probably wasn't too helpful that he either pulled night shifts at the hospital or spent his free day in the arms of a woman who used him as mere entertainment. Unconsciously Aidan clenched his teeth angrily. That stupid, abusive, arrogant, stuck-up, wonderful, sexy, addicting...He shook his head to clear his mind and resolutely fixed his eyes on the table before him.

"So. Done anythin' nice lately?" Please, please say yes and distract me, Aidan thought. That was all he was asking for.

"Scotland. Just for a week, though. I'll probably be able to apparate back over if you need me for anything." Terry noted the teeth clenching and tilted his head. "You alright, mate? Is something wrong?"

A huge smile spread across Terry's face. "Well, I did meet a woman the other night at an upscale bar I wandered into." He leaned back and stared off in thought. "A beautiful, intriguing woman. A great bloody kisser too." Terry looked over at Aidan. "And you know what? She used to be in Slytherin and I don't care. I got her owling address and I'm going to take her dancing."

"I'm just tired." Aidan replied and handed Terry a bottle. "I promise I'll call if anythin' excitin' 'appens but it looks like yer the one with the excitement."

The Irishman grinned and leaned forward. "Dancin'. I didn't even know people still did that but then again ye always handled women better than I did." Aidan trailed off thoughtfully. He was honestly glad that his friend had found someone and naturally, he wanted to know everything. And perhaps - just perhaps, because he was so much better at this than Aidan - Terry would be able to help him with his own 'problem'. "Tell me more about her. How did ye meet her? Does she have a name?"

Terry took the bottle gladly. "Nothings happened with you lately?"

"I only know how to dance because of my mother." Terry rolled his eyes and opened the bottle. "But I think it'd be nice- you know, instead of just going out for the night and then that's it. Mind you, I've had my share of one night stands, but I've always liked taking a girl out proper, yeah? Charming her the old-fashioned way." He grinned. "I went into this upscale bar and restaurant I'd never been to, and when I was going over to ask the bartender for another drink there she was sitting there. Looked familiar right from the start so I ask her if I know her; she looks at me, says I look vaguely familiar and asks me if we've ever shagged." Terry shook his head and gave a small laugh. "And it went from there, though she had somewhere else to go so I didn't see her for terribly long." He took a drink from the bottle. "Names Tracey, but she's comparable to Aphrodite if you ask me. Bloody. Gorgeous."

Aidan's eyes widened in shock and he promptly started coughing violently. When that subsided and his heart-beat returned to normal it was all he could do to hold on tightly to the bottle to keep his hands from shaking. She had...and only so little time after they..?

Aidan swallowed and shook his head lightly, hardly capable to believe it. "Tracey Davis?" He asked in a hollow voice. "Blonde. Aggressive. Sexy?" Again Aidan shook his head, then buried it in his hands.

"I fuckin' hate her." He mumbled through his hands.

When Aidan looked like someone had just punched him in the face and started coughing violently, a look of confusion and concern appeared on his face. "Aidan, wh--" At the mention of Tracey and a description of her, he stopped.

"Yes, but.." He ran a hand through hair. "Alright, just wait a minute. I'm confused. Did something happen with you and Tracey? I've never even heard you mention her before. Calm down." He waited a moment for Aidan to regain a normal breathing pattern. "Now tell me what's going on."

"Beside de fact dat I hate her?" Aidan growled and looked up again and it was plain to see that he was hurt. Not that Terry could have known but Tracey! Who had once again made it blatantly obvious that he wasn't anything but a quick shag. At least she had been honest. It was him who was the idiot and had to get infatuated with her again.

"We had a quick, fun shag." He answered, his tone all but dripping with sarcasm. "No bloody strings attached an' not a few - hours? Or was it a whole day? - she's makin' plans wi' ye." Aidan scoffed and turned to Terry. "Listen, mate. If ye want a quick shag, then go for it. But don't expect anythin' else. She's incapable o' that." Or perhaps she was merely incapable of that when it came to him.

Terry fell back in the chair, his empty hand rubbing his head. "Bloody hell. I guess we really do have the same taste in women." He sighed and glanced at Aidan, taking a large drink from the bottle he was holding. "I wasn't sure what I was looking for, though I wouldn't have minded some dancing, but obviously I'm not going through with it." When it came to his best friend, there was never any choice or competition. It was clear Aidan was hurt, and Terry didn't stand for that. Tracey was a tease, that had been clear, and he had liked her, but Terry would sooner forget all about her than ditch his closest friend.

"Terry," Aidan sighed in frustration. "I'm not blamin' ye an' I'm not blamin' 'er. She made it clear that I mean nothin' ter 'er." He scoffed again. "I can recommen' 'er if ye want a grand...ye know. It was the most amazing night of me life." And morning. And noon. And actually the rest of the day until they parted.

"Just...be warned."

"I know, Aidan. It wasn't anyone's fault, and it was just snogging. But it's clear that it's not worth it." He shook his head. "We both can do better than a fantastic shag. It'd be nice to actually be involved in something that's more than a fling for once. I think I've had enough flings, thanks." A mix of agitation, frustration and the hit to his pride was starting to show its affect on Terry's normally relaxed attitude. He got up and went over to his jacket, looking through the pockets of his jacket for a pack of cigarettes, a habit he rarely enforced.

Aidan looked up and frowned as Terry went for the jacket. The cigarettes were always a bad sign. So Tracey had managed to get under his friend's skin and Aidan clenched his jaw in anger. He'd make sure she would leave Terry alone. Terry hadn't deserved that.

"I'm sorry, Ter." Aidan sighed. "I really am. One day ye'll find a woman who's...ye know, worth it."

Finally finding his pack in the left inside pocket, Terry grabbed it and the lighter he kept with it and walked over to the window, opening it a bit. "It's not you're fault." He muttered, lighting a cigarette. He took a long drag and breathed it in. "Women." Terry stated on the exhale. "Bloody ridiculous." He turned back to Aidan. "I'm sorry things worked out the way they did, mate. I'm not the one who should be upset; at least you've got your head on straight."

Aidan gave Terry a look that said plainly 'I do?' but he was happy about the vote of confidence nevertheless.

"Women." Aidan agreed and raised his bottle in a defeated gesture. "This suddenly makes plannin' a rebellion look so much easier in comparison, huh?" He forced a grin onto his face. "Ye know what we need ter do, Terry? Go out an' have fun. Not tonight but we should try this no strings attached thing."

How else, after all could he forget?

Terry flicked ashes off his cigarette and took another drag. "Yeah, it almost makes me want to pull out the building plans again." He gave a small laugh. "Maybe. Going out might do us some good." He sighed and took a few steps toward Aidan. "You know, I'm glad I'm leaving in two days. It's not a long trip, but a change of pace might do me good."

Again Aidan frowned worriedly. "But that's not just because of Tracey, isn't it?" He leaned forward and put his bottle down.

"Terry, don't tell me ye...ye really liked her?" They couldn't both be so spectacularly stupid.

Terry hesitated. "Not just Tracey." He finished off the last of his current cigarette and lit another like he was a robot. "I found her intriguing. It's not everyday you find a woman who likes to push limits like she does. Anyway," His eyes focused on the cloud of smoke emitted on his last exhale. Now everything was starting to combine in one huge headache. "It's just, you know, stuff in general. Things have taken a drastic turn in a very short amount a time and even a day off, somewhere else, can do a person wonders." Terry looked over at Aidan. "Not that I want to ditch our project or anything, because I'm fully committed to it, but I'd like to at least think I function properly once things really start up."

"Can we...can we stop talkin' about 'er? I jst want ter get 'er out of me life an' never think of 'er again."

Aidan followed Terry's movements with growing concern. Despite his fatigue, he was first and foremost a Healer and in the back of his mind he already imagined the worst case scenarios of Terry becoming addicted. Then he shook his head and realized that he was a paranoid fool.

"Terry, a few days away won't change anythin' an' the project needs time. In fact," He smiled ruefully. "I'm so far behind on me learnin' stuff for the exams that a few days holed up with me books sounds like a very good idea." Or MediWitch McKenzie would have his guts for breakfast.

"That sounds fine to me." The prospect of getting Tracey out of his head sounds great, actually.

Terry sighed and finally gave Aidan a small smile. "A few days away sounds good to me." He glanced back over to the window. "And once I get back and you're all settled for your exams, we can get down to business." Terry moved back over to the chair he'd been in before. "But for now, I say let's drink and be merry. Or at least try to be."

Aidan nodded, most of all glad that their friendship kept on unwavering.

"I owled me uncle an' he says 'Clancy's' is always open ter us. Perhaps when ye come back we could go ter Ireland together an' tell him the rest of the story." In fact, that sounded a bit like a little fun vacation with a serious background - perhaps that was exactly what they needed. Plus, Patrick Clancy - despite being a Muggle (albeit one who knew about the Wizarding World thanks to his sister) - was one of the most down-to-earth people Aidan knew. If anyone could help them get on track with their project - it was him.

With a dazzling smile Aidan raised his bottle. "Ter bein' completely irrational, idealistic and ready ter change the world."

"You're uncle is definitely one of the most intelligent people I've ever met. We should head out there and see what he has to say. He always has great perspective." Terry extinguished the cigarette and plopped into the chair. Even if he was tempted for another, two was the limit. The change of subject was certainly making him feel better, and he grabbed the bottle he'd previously had.

"To all that," Terry replied with a smile "and to the friends who encourage it."

"That an' he keeps the best Guinness around." Aidan grinned, recalling the pub lovingly in each dirty detail. He spent half his youth there, after all.

"Now. As the last time we spent all our time plotting against the Renegades - what did ye do all these years? I mean, I want details this time, mate. Possibly pantomime, too."

"Good drink and good advice, what could be better?" He replied with a laugh.

"Honestly, there really isn't much to tell." Terry leaned back on the chair, bottle still in hand. "After we finished school, I had a few jobs until I got settled and got myself an apartment. Then, about 5 months later I got my job at the Ministry, and then about 2 months later they started sending me on trips. I travel, I work, I drink, and sometimes I make human contact." He motioned between the two of them. "I'm sad to say that I think this is the most stable my social life has been in a long time." He took a drink from the bottle. "But what about you? What've you been up to all this time?"

"Cheers, mate." Aidan responded dryly. "At least that sounds like yer doin' somethin'. Let me think...I went ter Dublin an' started the Healer programme, spent my time at the hospital, oh an' I had an interestin' flat mate. George. Remind me ter introduce ye."

Aidan grinned at the recollection of his slightly insane flat-mate. "He's a Muggleborn wizard an' studied technology an' did ye know that Muggles really know how ter party? We spent half our free time with his Muggle friends." They spent the other half getting sober again.

"You're not serious, are you?" Terry scoffed, not believing his best friend didn't realize how important his job was. "Do you realize how important the medical field is? How many people wouldn't be here without it? That's a lot more than I can say: Oh, let's have the Quidditch World Cup there this year. Last time I checked Quidditch didn't save lives."

Terry laughed. "I'd definitely be interested in learning more about how muggles party."

"What did I say?" Aidan blinked in confusion before Terry elaborated. "Oh, that."

He shrugged, then thought better of it. Terry was one of those people who would actually understand. so why not give it a try? "Ye see, the frustratin' thing about medicine is that we know so very little. People always think that we know everythin' but fact is that we haven't even scratched the surface and now I talked ter Augusuts Pye - brilliant man! - and we're thinkin' about findin' ways ter combine Muggle and wizarding medicine." There was a slightly manic gleam in his eyes but in his enthusiasm Aidan didn't even notice.

"As for the Muggles parties: they're loud, they're really inventive when it comes ter drinks an' as soon as yer back, I'm draggin' ye on one."

Terry nodded. He did understand where Aidan was coming. "Yeah, there's still a lot of questions that need answers, but think of all that medicine has done. Especially in the last 100 years; life expectancy has almost doubled, cures for a lot of diseases have been discovered, and there's a lot of stuff on the horizon. There's a long way to go, but a lot has been covered already." He sat up. "Really? That's brilliant. I'm a lot could be done by combining."

A grin appeared on Terry's face. "You don't have to ask me twice, then. Or even once, for that matter. I'm all for it."

"Aye, it has." Aidan agreed with a smile. "Ye know, ye should write these motivational booklets. Ye do that pretty well."

He leaned back with a satisfied smile, pondering the wonders of modern medicine for a moment before his eyes flickered back to his friend. Perhaps this trip was just what Terry needed. They were all stressed but knowing Terry's caring nature - one of the very reasons why Aidan liked and trusted him so much - the other man must have suffered a lot lately: first with his friends Hannah and Hermione being threatened and then with the thing they didn't talk about anymore. Yes, a holiday seemed to be just the thing for him.

"I promise we'll have fun on that party."

Terry have Aidan an apprehensive look. "I don't know. Maybe if I ever decide to change careers." He laughed. "But it's true. And, y'know, points to everyone going down that path like you and Padma. I don't think I'd be able to do it." His mind briefly thought back on not inviting Padma into the new DA and a shot of regret went through him.

He took another drink from the bottle and smiled. "I'm looking forward to it. I don't remember the last time I just went out to a party."
