Who: Narcissa & Rodolphus.
When: Late afternoon.
Where: Malfoy Manor.
What: Unexpected visits.
Warnings: ... I'll get back to you on this.

Silence was something that Narcissa had entirely too much of. She had attempted filling the still air of the manor with music, but that had ended abruptly before breakfast. It was simply too much noise. A conundrum to be sure. It had been one of the things she had once loved about her home, the quiet. Now she hated it.

She had exhausted her day's agenda quicker than she had hoped. The idle thought of asking Draco over to dinner surfaced in her mind, as it so often did. It didn't last long. Instead, she opted for a walk through the garden. That didn't last long either. It had barely reached 4 o'clock when she'd given up and gone for a bottle of wine.

The bouquet of white flowers in the parlor became victim of her boredom. She set her second glass of wine down on the end table next to the massive vase so she could better arrange the blossoms. She wasn't entirely sure she was making it any better, but her hands were busy, at least.

Rodolphus rather liked his habit of popping in unexpectedly on persons. He had implemented the technique back in the first war, often popping in behind the nervous bugger he had been asked to torture or kill. There was great relish to be taken in by their sudden fright.

Now, he used the technique even with those he didn't plan on hurting. Best to keep everyone on their toes, he did suppose. And after all, dark lords had no need to give notice before they arrived, did they?

Apparating into the parlour of the Malfoy Estate that Narcissa was in residence in, Rodolphus gave a wolfish smile, "Hallo, Poppet. Drinking already? Tsk, what would Lucius have had to say about that?"

The loud, resounding crack of apparition was almost deathly in the quiet of the house. It did it's job in frightening Narcissa. She jumped in her moment of fright, inspiring her heart to rabbit in her chest. The bouquet was nearly knocked clean off the table. Long fingers wrapped tightly around the vase to ensure that it wouldn't shatter against the floor. When it was steady, a hand rose to cover her chest in an attempt to still the rapid beat of her heart. It failed to work.

She turned to look at Rodolphus, a look of contempt on her face. Narcissa had made no secret of the fact that she positively hated such a tendency from her brother-in-law. She wasn't surprised that he didn't listen.

"If he was here to say anything, I wouldn't be drinking." She replied coldly.

A pleased smile crossed the shadowed face of Rodolphus Lestrange as his sister-in-law jumped in fright. "Did I frighten you? I apologize." His tone held no remorse oncesoever.

"Yes, of course. But to great pity, he is not, and so in his place I find myself having to reprimand you." Rodolphus picked up the bottle of wine and examined it before placing it down once more, "Come now, isn't it a cliche? The alcoholic wealthy pureblood witch? You're better than that, Narcissa."

"Now, will you serve your brother-in-law a nice meal, so we may have some time to become familiar with the recent events in one another's lives? Though I'm certain you may have heard some of mine," His eyes lingered on a near by newspaper with another headline over another kidnapping.

"I never claimed to be above cliché." Narcissa mentioned, attempting to regain an air of nonchalance. She would almost be able to convince herself if it wasn't for the speed in which her heart still beat. She picked up her glass from the table, as though to prove a point, but neglected to drink from it. In truth, the idea disgusted her a little-- the cliché alcoholic wealthy witch.

The cold blue of her eyes flickered upon the neglected edition of the Daily Prophet that had been left on the table. His comment was greeted with a soft sigh and the rolling of those eyes. She should have known.

"What, exactly, is it you are attempting to accomplish?" Narcissa asked, turning her attention back to Rodolphus. She turned on her heel and led the way towards the dining room.

"Well, go ahead then." Rodolphus prompted, one dark eyebrow raising as he gave a meaningful glance at the undrunk alcohol in the glass she gripped. "Revel in your clichéd existence."

Following his sister-in-law, Rodolphus twirled his wand aimlessly as they approached the dining room. "Whatever do you mean?" He feigned innocence, "If you mean my visit to you: Then, simply to greet you, poppet. If you mean those terrible kidnappings: Well," His teeth gleaming white, "Just a few warnings to those purebloods that have been less than helpful. You must admit, my way is far more civilized than those before me." His words were to a degree true, but Narcissa would know exactly how brutal and vicious Rodolphus could be. He held disregard to lives that didn't entwine with his and the only reason he wasn't killing mindlessly was because he quite enjoyed playing games and watching with glee the repercussions.
