Well, wasn't that just something special. Really, that whole bit back there in the barn? That was something special. It was the sort of thing that left the Doctor fuming. He was furious. Couldn't rightfully say who he was so angry with; but, he was pretty darn mad. He'd been walking for a while now, trainer-clad steps nearly pounding on the pavement as he tried to pick a direction. Before he knew it, the Doctor was at the thrift store where he changed his clothes. Out of that suit and into a pair of denims and a sweatshirt. He was soaked to the bone, after all. The trenchcoat for all of it's virtues was far from waterproof. So, he'd found a backpack and put his wet clothes into it before heading out again. Even his hair was smushed down and out of it's rebellious state by the opressive rain.

Deciding a break might be in his best interest, the Doctor slid up under the maquis of the theater trying to duck out of the intermittant rain. He could hide under there for a few minutes and try and root out the cause of his frustration. He hadn't lied. He hadn't done the wrong thing; yet, there he was kicking himself. Most of it was because he should have nipped this entire thing in the bud. He should have ignored Remy LeBeau from day one - then he wouldn't be in this ridiculous predicament. Then there was the trouble with Nine and Jack. Oh, that was enough to make him groan out loud, and that he did, pressing palm to forehead. With the rain keeping everyone in their right mind indoors the Doctor wasn't so worried about being found in this moment of vulnerability and annoyance. This whole thing had gone south so quickly and there was nothing that this Doctor liked less than a situation he didn't have absolute and complete control over. Fantastic.

Sliding down the wall he pulled those knees up and those red Chucks up closer squinting off in the direction of that damned post office. Stupid thing. Plucking out his journal he found that damned survey and started filling it out. It was more important to get reconnected with his fellow captives than be spiteful toward the people in charge of this place.

Of course she didn't sit beside him. That would have been too welcome of a comfort and the universe appeared to be hell bent on punishing the Doctor for something today. What he'd done to deserve the past 48 hours... well, he could think of a few things. Though, really, hadn't he made up for all that yet?

"It is a lovely day for a walk," he said quietly fingers tapping on his kneecaps. "Who managed to get you to chase after them today, Rose Tyler?" Probably Jack. Jack was good at making people chase him. Maybe Nine, too. Nine could have managed to get her to play a game of run and follow. She was good at that.

"Yes," he knew the rain could be worse back in Britain. Though, it could be worse on Jupo, too. There is rained for years. Where'd the rain go? Well, it was a funny sort of rain the evaporated quickly due to it's checmical composition; so it'd rain and be soaked up again so quickly that it was almost constantly refuelling it's own humidity.

He dared to look up at her again, his brow wrinkling a bit as it rose a little in question. She looked hurt. "You need an ear to bend?" He asked her quietly.

Oh, she knew she shouldn't. It was ridiculous the way she kept running to him. She was an adult and could handle her problems on her own. But these days there seemed to be so many of them. And he was a stranger, no matter how very much he acted like he knew her. It wasn't like the Doctor, who she'd have to deal with when they got out of there, or Jack, who'd shared like, quiet talks with her between trips. He was the neutral third party that she really, really needed.

So Rose slid down the wall, pulling her knees up to her chest and wrapping her arms around them. The sweatshirt he was wearing looked so big and comfortable that it was everything she could do not to just bury her face in his shoulder and cry in it.

Instead, she leaned her head back, staring up at the marquis. "How well do you know Remy?" she questioned, not glancing at him. Looking at him would require staring into those soulful looking brown eyes, and she wasn't sure she could do that just then. It hurt already, she didn't need it to ache.

But her question answered both of his questions. It was Remy she'd wandered off with, and she was desperately in need of an ear to bend. But she wanted him to talk, too. And she was relatively sure he needed it as much as she did.

He'd seen that look before, the one where Rose's head tilted back and it looked like she was trying to keep everything that was in her head from rolling out her eyes. So, he did the only thing that came naturally, he slipped an arm up across her shoulder, his hand offering a firm squeeze at the other end. John Smith knew you were upset, Rose Tyler.

How well do you know Remy?

Well, that was a question he hadn't expected.

"Well as anyone, I suppose," and better than most.

The Doctor raised his brows a little, not really bothering to try and catch Rose's eyes. No, that'd be a bit much. Physical contact was a bit much, too. He couldn't just let her crumble there, knowing what he knew.

"Stuck his foot in it, eh?"

Though his action surprised her, she didn't turn it away. She found it hard not to just nestle into him. The warmth he offered was so needed just then. She loved the Doctor, more than she wanted to admit. Even if she did have to admit it, today to Remy, who'd turned her world upside down. And she loved Jack, too, with his warm hugs and his gentle teasing. But John was someone who wasn't attached to that time. And he knew Remy.

"You live with him, though, don't you? In the barn?" Overstepping her bounds? Maybe. But she needed to know. There were just a few pieces left to this damned jigsaw puzzle, but right now she felt like the blond girls trying to put together the picture of the tiger off of the Frosted Flakes box. Nothing was adding up properly, but she knew what Remy had told her had a great deal to do with it.

"Is he always that infuriating?" she huffed, finally glancing sideways, finding herself surprised at how close he was. But she wouldn't complain. For one, he had a very nice profile, all chiseled cheekbones and full lips. In any other situation, she might try and make a move. This was so very much not the place, though.

And for another? He was listening. And she liked it.

So what if it was against his own rules, Rose needed this. She needed someone she could trust who would listen So he stayed there steady as a rock, looking out across the way at that ramshackle post office.

"Live with him? No. I stayed there for a time and then I left," two days? Three days? Did time really matter? "Keeps wanting me to come back, but I enjoy the carnival quite a bit, actually." Well, as much as one could enjoy sleeping in a bumper car in a dilapidated pavilion. Could be worse, he could be sleeping in the forest. On a rock.

"Infuriating?" He made the mistake of looking down as she looked up. Sorry, but his breath hitched in his throat a little there. "Oh, I don't think he means to be; but, the short answer is yes. He's stubborn and brilliant and loyal - but above all, infuriating." The Doctor looked away straightening out his legs to spy his shoes. "Came on too strong, did he?"

"That's one way to put it," Rose answered, finding her lips turning slightly north at the look on his face. She heaved a sigh, absently pulling at a loose thread in her denims. There'd be a hole there before long, and she'd be stuck wearing polyester. Fine for her disco-Remus. Not so fine for her.

Rolling her eyes, she shook her head. "It wasn't... I mean, he didn't... I thought he was...different. Nice. Someone trustworthy." But John had called him loyal. Rose couldn't really see much loyal...okay, well, maybe towards his version of the Doctor. Stalker. Creep. And what was so wrong with her, anyway?

"Let's just say if I were the Doctor, I'd sleep with an eye open. The guy's a creep." Which was probably not...okay, definitely not the nicest thing to say to someone who was obviously the man's friend. But honestly! The nerve of him! 'I'm not giving him up'. Whatever, Cajun, Rose didn't even want to hear it.

Unless it involved her kicking his arse. Then she might want to hear it. Just friends, she reminded herself.

"Right," he smiled a little as she agreed to his assessment of infuriating. Remy seemed to be good at having that effect on people.

Well, John Smith or Doctor, he had a mental sigh of relief as she said he hadn't come on too strong; at least the Cajun had some sort of boundaries even if the Time Lord wasn't too sure what they were. "A creep?" the Doctor's brow knitted. "Untrustworthy?" Alright he was just parroting words at the moment as he tried to put the pieces together. "Oh, I'd think the Doctor can take reasonably good care of himself. Though, why exactly is one eye staying perpetually open?"

If the Doctor had his coat on he'd have pulled out that bag of crisps he'd been saving. Instead he just had the big blue hoodie that was only as large on the inside as it was on the outside.

"What he do, run over your dog?"

It was impossible not to giggle at that. Just because he was so close to what had really gone down. Not her dog, of course, but her...well. He was as close a loyal companion as some dogs were, wasn't he?

"Always wanted a dog," she countered instead, already feeling badly for dumping this on someone who'd been such a point of comfort for her. Not to mention someone who was likely closer to Remy than he was letting on. "Nothing big and overwhelming, just a little one. Not a big fan of cats, but a dog? A dog I could do."

She was already considerably calmer than when she'd first gone storming off in the rain. "And if he did run over it, I'd probably be just as annoyed with him."

"Oh yeah? Why is it that I see you with a little white puff ball thing?" He was teasing. The Doctor knew Mickey Mouse was pretty darned close to having a dog about. The Doctor had even let her keep him for a while. Then that dog ran away. Tugged at his heartstrings that.

"Cats are some curious creatures," the Doctor remarked, "Clever, but entirely too single minded." He wasn't talking about your typical cat, either.

"I don't think he would have done anything to upset you on purpose," the Doctor volunteered, looking up again at Rose before forcing his eyes away and up toward the roof above their heads. Had been a mistake letting her this close, hadn't it?

He looked back again at her with a faint smile. "Besides, that Doctor woudln't be too happy to see you all upset like this. Probably blame me," he teased.
