Day 17, Early Evening
Who: Elliot Reid and Andy Gallagher
What: Talking about the deaths
Where: Near the Church
When: Day 17, around 5:00ish
Rating: PG-13ish?
Status: Complete.

She wasn't sure how much more she could take. She'd just spent what felt like an eternity watching two men being cut to pieces because she couldn't make herself look away. It had gone against everything she'd been trained in as a doctor to stand by and watch unseen hands carve into them. The terror of watching it go on for hours had been enough to close up her throat and make her speechless. How could anyone do that to them? She'd tried to shut her eyes and walk away, but their screams had rooted her to the spot. They would be haunting her for a long while.

When it was over and the TV went mercifully black, Elliot had finally found it in herself to move away from the screen. She'd made her way back to the van and let herself in, shutting the doors behind her and locking them until Andy came knocking. They'd driven back to the Church with the sounds of Andy's music filling in what would've been shocked silence without it. Elliot looked down at the list that the man they were calling Doctor Smith had compiled, her finger trailing over the list of names. Ten people, murdered. She looked up at Andy as he stopped the van, studying his face.

"Andy," she said, looking over at him. She reached over and turned down the radio. "Is this what it's like here? I mean, is it always like this? Just losing one person after the other? Kim and Lexie..." She shook her head. "I can't believe anyone would do that to them. I just...I need to know if it's always like this."

Andy returned the laugh and almost exactly mirrored Elliot's guilty look downward. Then, he looked back up at her. "Some of them have handlebar mustaches," he pointed out playfully, although his smile didn't reach his eyes. Andy reached over and tucked a piece of hair behind Elliot's ear. "I know it's been a rough, fucked up couple of days, but it's okay to joke. It's okay to smile. I don't think Kim or Lexie or any of them would begrudge us trying to relax."

"Yeah," he said quietly, nodding. "I can do that," he replied. There was a change in Elliot's expression and he could tell that she was trying to keep up with his joking and that neither of them were feeling it, now. His eyebrows raised slightly when her voice trailed off and he thought for a horrible second she was going to ask if they could fuck...and he couldn't. There was no way he'd be able to get it up, no matter how hot she was or how much he liked having her. His expression softened when she spoke again. "I can do that, too," he whispered. "And I'm not going anywhere. I promise."

Taking a deep breath, Andy moved closer to her and then wrapped an arm around her, guiding them both down until he was lying behind her, spooning her. "I didn't mention this one, but it's another one lots of people know and don't probably even realize it's Pink Floyd," he said softly. And then he paused and took a breath.

"How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls
Swimming in a fish bowl,
Year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have we found?
The same old fears.
Wish you were here."

Even as he sang it in his half tone-deaf way of trying to keep himself quiet, so the words were just for the two of them, Andy could feel his throat tightening as he thought of Lexie and the others. "I'm not gonna leave you, Elliot, I never will," he said quietly, swallowing hard against the lump in his throat. He paused and then went on. "Try to get some rest."
