Who: Open
What: Monitors placed around town. Please enjoy the entertainment presented to you, courtesy of TBTB
Where: Gas Station
When: Day 17 7:00am - close of day seventeen
Rating: TBA
Status: Active

A monitor appears atop a pump at the gas station.

This monitor will feature Sarah Jane Smith and Merope Gaunt. Sarah Jane and Merope will be shown taking part in the "See No Evil" experiment. Both characters will be bumbling around blind in an obviously well lit room. Scattered on the floor are a variety of balls which vary in size. Characters are tormented by an unseen force which becomes more violent as the episode progresses. There is no sound accompanying this monitor.

All monitors are black and white and are familiar to those characters who took part in "panic room." All are labelled "our dear departed." Monitors will go black at precisely 4:24 PM where all characters on screen will die for everyone to see.

Rorschach had heard that strange things were happening in Vas Captio today. That was hardly unusual, but all it had taken to make him need to investigate was waking up to find Merope missing. The girl slept often, still recovering from childbirth, and it was very unusual to return after 7:00 and not find her sleeping peacefully, or softly disturbed, murmuring quietly while she dreamed. This morning, there had been nothing... but recent journal entries had sent Rorschach hurrying between locations. He'd seen some awful things on the monitors, but none of them really registered. He was looking for Merope, and until he found her, or (what he hoped for) failed to, he wouldn't stop long enough to actually watch.

At the gas station, his blood ran cold. The monitor showed not one, but two people he knew. He liked both of them, even though it was hard to tell through his gruff demeanor. Merope was stumbling about in a daze, even though the room she was in wasn't dark at all. He immediately worried that she'd trip on one of the balls, and was frustrated that he couldn't hear anything.

"Merope... Merope!" he shouted, for lack of anything else he could do. He had been everywhere in Vas Captio, many times, and had no idea where the room on the monitor was.

[ carried over from this thread. ]

As they walked Selene was quiet, carefully noting the information she was being given. It was a bit how she was treating every conversation she was having with people in this place. Every person could tell her something new, something different. The more pieces of the puzzle she had, the better chance she could put it together and make sense of it all. Strangely enough, when Andy mentioned a cougar she became a little excited, though her outward expression didn't change a bit. It took her brain a moment to recall just what that animal was, as it wasn't something common in Eastern Europe, but it was good news in a way. It meant the vampire had something to hunt. Something that wouldn't be as simple as a jumpy deer. Hunting was always best when there was at least the tiniest challenge. Perhaps that was why she had always been more than content to hunt the lycans, and thought nothing of hunting humans.

Upon arrival at the gas station she couldn't help but smile a little at his polite move of opening the door for her. The monitor outside went unnoticed by her for the moment, what with there being no sound to catch her attention. Selene didn't walk far before frowning to herself at the condition of the place, though she supposed she shouldn't have expected anything different. People were focused on survival, not keeping things tidy or organized. She still was unaware just how many other people there were in this place, as she didn't really care to pay the journals much mind, but she figured it was likely a good thing for the lot of them she didn't require food or water to survive.

"There's nothing wrong with paranoia," Selene replied absently, pushing aside a discarded empty box with her boot as she turned around to face him. "It can keep a person alive. ....What's that?" A flash of something outside caught her attention and she tilted her head, walking over to the window for a better view. Was that a... television monitor? Wait, that looked a bit familiar. "Has that always been there?"

After letting Selena inside the gas station, Andy followed her in slowly, eyes already scanning the dwindling inventory in hopes of finding something for he and Elliot to eat and drink. Every day he came for supplies, it was harder to find them, but he couldn't bring himself to take more than what they needed for the day in order to stock up. There was something about that that just felt wrong to him; like he was stealing more than their fair shares when the stock was already scant.

Selene's voice caught Andy's attention and he looked back at her, temporarily putting his supply search on hold. "Yeah, doesn't mean that it's any good, though," he replied in reference to her valid point about there being nothing wrong with paranoia. "You have any idea how exhausting it is to be so damn par--what's what?"

Brow furrowed, Andy followed Selene toward the window and that was when he noticed the monitor; just in time for her to ask if it had always been there. "No..." he admitted, frowning. "Which can't mean anything good. At all." In fact, Andy could already feel his stomach churning nervously as he watched the two women on the screen being pushed around, prodded roughly by an unseen force. "Jesus..." he breathed in a low voice. "What the hell...?"

Selene actually did have an idea how tiring constant paranoia was, but her attention was quite squarely on the monitor. It was far too familiar, both the screen and what was being shown on it. Her eyes narrowed slightly as she watched what the women were being subjected to, and as realization struck her stomach turned a bit. "I recognize that. That setting. The experiment where I was blind, it looks like they're being subjected to something similar. Although there was nothing on the floor for us to trip over..." Her voice trailed off as she cocked her head to one side, trying to see if she could figure out how it was they were blinded. That issue was still bothering the vampire.

For a moment, Andy wasn't able to make himself look away from the screen even though he'd heard what she'd said. But then, it dawned on him. Experiment where she'd been blind. Elliot had said she'd been in an experiment that had made her blind as well. Finally, Andy looked away from the monitor and over at Selene.

"You, too?" he asked a little dumbly. "I mean, not me, but my friend...you know...had the same thing. I didn't realize it looked like this from the outside..." he murmured, brow furrowed. "Sorry, I missed about everything else you said after 'experiment where I was blind,'" he admitted awkwardly as he looked back at the screen, frowning.

She was sure at a later date it might be fascinating, to know how to make a vampire blind, considering she would have the other covens to deal with when she got back (and she had no doubt she would return to her world and time, somehow). Making a lycan blind only sounded nifty; if she got that close to them she'd just kill them, not delay things. But seeing as the whole blind thing had been done to her, all she wanted to do was figure it out and see if she could prevent it from happening again. Her life had been disorienting enough without strange experiments.

"Well, the set-up wasn't exactly the same in mine... there was nothing on the floor to trip over, at least nothing I found. Think I might have preferred that to a fire." Well, provided said objects weren't anything sharp that would draw blood. Having the blood smeared on her clothes and skin was bad enough.

With the additional details Selene was providing, Andy started thinking that perhaps something was going on that was hiding behind the proverbial smoke and mirrors. Normally, as far as Andy knew, the experiments were always the same for everyone involved, whether they took place at the same time and place or not. As far as he knew, they never used the same experiment twice. The powers that be were losing their luster by failing to be more original than tweaking previous experiments or they were doing it on purpose to throw the captives off.

"Fire?" he asked, frowning. His brow furrowed in frustrated thoughtfulness. "Same concept, different obstacles. That's fuckin' weird, man, they're...evolving..."

Taking a deep breath and shaking his head, Andy looked away from the monitor. "I can't watch this anymore. In the panic room, I saw enough death. I can't do it again," he said in a low voice, backing away a few steps and turning his back on the monitor.

As he seemed to ramble Selene looked over at him, curious. "Evolving? Like testing some people differently than others... testing for reactions perhaps..." It was her turn to think out loud, trying to objectively run over what she went through in her head. Her gaze flicked back to the monitor, and part of her realized she would be more interested if the experiment shown was identical to hers, so she would know what she had been dealing with in her blindness. As it was it didn't hold all that much interest to her since she didn't know either of the women, for starters.

She turned to look over at Andy as he backed away, visibly upset. Any remarks about her own experiences with death were held back; she was still trying to hide what she was from as many people as possible, for as long as possible. "There's no shame in not watching." she finally remarked quietly. She didn't want to watch either, but not because it bothered her. Instead Selene returned to her rummaging around, moving deeper into the gas station and eventually behind the register counter in search of a box-cutter or scissors. While it didn't entirely surprise her not to find either it was still disappointing. There had to be some sort of a blade somewhere. The search at least distracted her from the monitor.

At first, when Selene echoed his rambling with her own version of thinking aloud, Andy said nothing, only nodding solemnly. After a moment, when she looked back at the monitor, he furrowed his brow and spoke again. "Yeah, that's exactly what I think," he murmured. "And I don't like it."

The fact of the matter was, if the people running the show really were evolving their experiments, it was only a matter of time before they started becoming more and more difficult to survive. How long before one of the more anxious or older captives had a heart attack in the middle of an experiment? How long before someone had an stress-induced asthma or panic attack? How long before someone went into shock or ended up bleeding out before someone else could find them and help? It wasn't like Andy couldn't have bled out on that first experiment, he just had happened to be with a doctor at the time. Lucky for him, Martha had been calm and collected. He was sorry, when he thought about it, that he had never really been able to repay the favor to her.

Selene broke in after a long pause to tell him there was no shame in not watching. Yes, he thought, there was. There was more shame than he could probably ever really put into words. He should be watching, because he should be studying the room they were in; trying to see if anything looked familiar or if there were any clues as to where the women were and how he could help find them. He should be watching, because he still felt he deserved to be punished for killing Webber, failing Tracy, Luna, and Martha. But, no matter how much he felt he should be watching, Andy could not make himself look back at the monitor as he felt a cold chill shudder suddenly down his spine just thinking about it.

It took a moment before Andy noticed that Selene wasn't watching either; instead, she was rummaging around the gas station in search of something. Apparently, for something in particular. "What're you lookin' for?" he finally asked, after willing himself to watch her for a moment rather than staring ashamedly down at his own feet or out the grimy window.

The time is 4:30; for all those gathered to watch this monitor The Management does sincerely hope you enjoy the entertainment they've worked so hard to provide just for you.

Merope and Sarah Jane had eventually found each other, clutching togethe rin the middle of that obstacle filled room. Something unseen was tormenting them; you could tell by the way they jostled wide, blind eyes trying to see. It started with shoves and turned into hard pushes. Those pushes turned into punches. Did you see the way Merope's head moved there, Rorschach? The way the shaking slid down her spine? How about the way Sarah Jane nearly doubled over, the older woman's body ill equipped for such a blow.

Those blows turned to cuts, long and scraping across the pair's ripping fabric and skin indescriminately. You may not hear the screams; but you can see them, can't you?

Eventually both women would crumple to the floor, arms no longer clutching with eyes squeezed shut. Mercifully, death would take the pair as spasms and thrashing stopped. Sarah Jane Smith and Merope Gaunt would breathe no more.

The screen goes black. No sense watching a corpse.

Fina had wandered into the gas station while she was thinking due to Vas Captio being so..quiet today. It was as if the gloom had become as black as Valua's thundering sky as the black clouds shifted around. Quickly, she saw both a man and a woman inside watching a monitor and she watched the scene.

The scene of two women holding onto one another and she thought it was strange until the two of them were attacked. Being that she never saw a television or annything, she knew it had to be real and her hands covered her mouth.

Fina continued to watch until they had started cutting fabric and skin and she covered her eyes. After seeing so many loved ones perish, the thought of seeing strangers perish was too much.

After another minute or so, she saw the two of them without life and she left the Gas Station. Fina needed time to sort this out.

Shortly after Fina left ironically Ramirez had shown up. He was on his way to find out more about what was going on in this strange place, when he stepped into this gas station. The air admiral wasn't really familiar with what a gas station was, but it seemed to be a store that had supplies. Upon stepping in, he noticed two other people watching a screen. Looking up, he could see two people lying there dead.

They seemed to be people trapped in this town as well, though their deaths didn't shake or shock him. This sort of thing was common in Valua...beheadings and what not. He looked on anyway, finding out that this enemy who imprisoned them was apparently more dangerous than previously expected.

The silver-haired man glanced at the others watching this, before looking back. Is this what their captors were going to do once they were done? Time was of the essence now.

Turning quickly, Ramirez would leave. There was now further need to find the truth, to find these sick people and bring them to an end.
