Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:!complete, andy gallagher, day 17, location: carnival, selene

Who: Selene and Andy Gallagher.
What: Exploring and continuing to meet the 'locals'.
Where: Walking from the carnival to the gas station.
When: Day 17; around 2pm.
Rating: PG.
Status: Completed, kind of. Continued here.

It wasn't that she felt defenseless. Quite the contrary, as the vampire knew she could more than handle herself. But when one's carried a weapon of some sort on their person nearly every night for centuries they tended to feel a bit naked without one. Which was why the museum was still high on Selene's list of places to explore, as she was hoping to find an antique sword at the very least. She just had to try and do so when there weren't so many people around.

Obviously, a gas station wouldn't have anything like what she would look for in a museum. Her hope there was to find a pocketknife or even simple cutlery. Not so much for defense as just for general use. Past that, she just wanted to look around. Gas stations usually carried such random items it wasn't entirely impossible that she could find something that would be of real use to her. Or if not of use to her directly, perhaps of use to Remus. She was still trying to wrap her brain around the fact she was helping a werewolf. Hopefully it wouldn't come back to bite her in the ass.

Such serious thoughts made her sigh and she reached into her coat to pull out her journal as she walked, as much to distract herself as it was to flip back to Gambit's map to make sure she was headed the right direction. The vampire could have easily arrived at her destination by now but she was trying to pass for human. At least for now. That meant no seemingly appearing out of thin air because she could move so fast. Part of her was kind of irritated by that, as being dressed in black from head to toe tended to make her stand out in the daytime.

Lazing around in the back of his van was really all that Andy wanted to do when he woke up late the next morning. So, he had. He'd dressed and, once Elliot had as well, he'd pushed the back doors of the van open and laid out, staring up at the disco ball and grinning at the way the sunlight reflected off it. Finally, when he'd realized that he was hungry, he excused her and hopped out of the van and announced that he was going to fetch them some snacks and, with a smirk he added, apples, if he was lucky.

It was a nice day, finally - not too cold and not too hot, either. The sun was trying to peek through the clouds as he made his way down the road, past the theater, toward the carnival. He'd cut through and head to the gas station the way he always did and maybe on the way back, he'd head out into the woods to see if he could find some felled apples. Just to see the look on Elliot's face would be worth the effort, maybe, if he had to climb a little to get to some that hadn't fallen. It'd be kind of hilarious, he was sure.

As he made his way through the carnival, he shielded his eyes with one hand and then raised his eyebrows seeing someone in the short distance ahead. She seemed to be looking in the journals and he didn't recognize her face. Andy couldn't help wondering if she was new and looking for the map. For all he knew, she'd been around forever and he'd talked to her without knowing what she looked like, but he decided he would feel better checking before assuming and leaving her there.

"Hey," he called out to her as he approached. "You okay?" Not the smoothest, most relevant question, really, but it was kind of reflexive and it sounded okay, he supposed. Or, you know, it didn't, but he'd already asked it, so he decided to ride it out.

It only took a moment for her to verify she was indeed headed in the right direction and she was then flipping through a few pages, looking curiously to see if there were hints of any other non-humans present. Surely there had to be at least one. She was hoping it was just coincidence that a werewolf had appeared the day after she had.

Her eyes were still on the pages when she heard an unfamiliar voice and her head snapped up, unconsciously bristling at being somewhat snuck up on. The vampire hated being upwind. Selene looked in the direction of the voice and quickly surveyed the man that had called out and was approaching her. It was a small relief to her that he, for all intensive purposes, appeared normal. Human, even. "As okay as a captive can be." she replied, shutting the journal and tucking it away back inside a pocket of her coat. She had slowed and eventually stopped her steps, allowing their paths to cross, and she tried not to look him over suspiciously. Being out in daylight made her more nervous than simply being in this strange place did. "Have you been here awhile?" It wasn't even a thought in her mind to ask if he was 'from' here, the vampire having deduced that anyone who was here was almost certainly present against their will.

Andy stopped and took one step back, his hands up defensively when he saw the girl startle. "Sorry, didn't mean to scare you," he apologized. He'd thought she'd have heard him coming, but apparently, she had not. Her answer made him smile slightly, even if it didn't reach his eyes. "Fair enough," he replied. He knew it was sort of a dumb question, after all. There was only so much "okay" that anyone here could actually be.

She approached and seemed to be sizing him up. Andy could understand the trepidation, even if he knew he was not a threat. He wasn't going to begrudge her being cautious. Then again, maybe she wasn't sizing him up; maybe he was just growing more and more paranoid with every day he woke up still stuck in this place. "Yeah, a little over two weeks," he replied. "How long have you been here?"

There was something about the woman that made him a little uncomfortable. While Andy couldn't put his hand on just what it was, he knew he didn't really like it. The last time he'd felt that same twinge of unknown discomfort was when he'd agreed to meet Sarah, knowing she was a vampire, while he was still covered in blood from the wound he'd incurred from fighting off the cougar his second day. Andy decided that it was because she was wearing a coat on a marginally warm day. Like Sarah had been wearing shorts and a tank top under her coat on a pretty cold day. It felt out of place, but he wasn't one to judge; he certainly wasn't one to say it aloud.

Her brows rose and a look of surprise came over her face when he said how long he had been there. Over two weeks? And no one had found a way out yet? She cursed softly and ran a hand through her hair. There was no way she'd be able to go that long without feeding, not in this place. Certainly not if she continued to be tempted.

"This marks my third day." she finally replied, sighing after a moment. "It feels longer, though." Which felt a little funny for the vampire to say, as long as she had been alive. She wasn't sure if it was the strangeness of the place, the stress, or walking about in daylight that made time seem to be longer than it was. "My name is Selene." she offered, extending a pale hand. Since she sensed no danger from him she figured she might as well act the way she expected someone 'normal' would, and introduce herself. And if he'd been trapped here for that long, he might have valuable information about the place, so it wouldn't do for her to be rude.

The woman said that she'd only been there three days but that it had felt like longer. Andy huffed and gave a small smile, nodding. "Yeah, no shit. I know what ya mean," he replied empathetically. In this place, the days all seemed to bleed into one another, drawing out the time sensationally; one day felt like a week if it was a okay day or like a month if it was a shitty one. A couple of days ago he'd felt like the day was never going to end while yesterday had gone by far too quickly. At least, he thought, he'd been able to keep the van.

"Shit, sorry," he laughed, taking her hand and shaking it. "Andy. Usually that's one of the first things I do; introduce myself," he replied. "I'd say nice to meet you or welcome or something but then I'd kind of be an asshole, right?" he joked, smirking as he released her hand and reached up to scratch the back of his head with the same hand he'd used to shake hers. After a short pause, he raised his eyebrows. "Are you lost or just kinda hangin' out...?" he asked awkwardly, not really sure how to continue a conversation nor how to excuse himself to go get food if he wanted not to be rude.

She managed a small smile in return at the sight of his, committing the new name and face to memory. It was likely best to keep track of everyone she encountered, to help her figure out just how many other people there were trapped here as well as in case she had to make a list of allies and enemies. "I believe my welcome was an experiment, so if given a choice I'd have much preferred a kind introduction." she replied with a slight tilt of her head, the smile disappearing as she thought back briefly on how her sight was taken from her. Just thinking about it made her uncomfortable as it spoke to a great amount of power.

"Eh, not lost really. Just trying to get the lay of the land." Said with a shrug of one shoulder. "I was headed for the gas station, though perhaps I shouldn't bother. Is there much of anything left after two weeks?" That would quite change her plans. Although the vampire certainly wasn't above stealing if someone had already claimed something she wanted.

Andy winced. Two days ago she'd been thrown into an experiment, upon her arrival...that had to mean she'd undergone the same sort of experimentation he had, didn't it? Usually the experiments were the same. "I'm sorry," he replied, furrowing his brow. "For what it's worth, whatever you saw...it wasn't real. It couldn't have been, because I--" he cut himself off and shook his head. "What I saw wasn't real." Most of it, anyway, he thought miserably.

When Selene said she was just trying to get the lay of the land, Andy nodded. He understood that some people wanted to. He'd done it slowly and only as he'd needed. The map had been good enough for him. It was partially because Andy was lazy and partially because he did not consider himself the hero type and he did consider those who needed the control of knowing the whole layout of the crap ass town they were stuck in the hero types. He did, however, find it interesting that there seemed to be, or had seemed to be, so many females that needed and wanted that same sort of control. Grasping at thin air, he thought, but he wasn't going to begrudge them that or take it away from them with his lack of hope.

"Well, I don't know. Mostly...there's like potato chips and candy bars and maybe there's some water and soda left," he said sympathetically. "That's where I was going, too. And out to see if I could find more apples in the woods. I haven't looked in a while, though, so for all I know, they're gone." Andy paused then. "You wanna come?" he offered awkwardly. There wasn't really any point in them both going their own way, he figured, if they were going to the same place.

His remarks to her comment about being in an experiment made her curious. They made sense for one part of it, at least, as since she hadn't found any remote trace of Michael anywhere she deduced that the images on the screen were somehow faked. Trying to think how any of the things the people in charge were doing was actually being done gave her a near headache, so she tried not to. "Are you talking about the panic room? That was more... stressful than anything." Mostly because she'd been busy trying to keep herself from feeding on poor cut-up Dean while they'd been trapped in there. "Before that though there was nothing for me to see. They managed to blind me somehow." She again frowned, and tried not to let the thought get to her. Vampires didn't go blind. Not unless someone perhaps took their eyes.

The rambling about food supplies was unimportant to her but Selene was careful to seem like she was paying attention. She still had her bottle of water, all her 'survival' supplies, actually, though she had used a little of the water to clean the blood of her coat after she got out of the experiments. "Sure, some company would be a nice change of pace." A true enough comment, said with a slight smile. But she was more thinking on what kind of questions to ask him about this place.

Nodding, Andy's jaw set again. "The panic room, yeah," he replied. "And there was a room with blood and mirrors everywhere," he added. "You were in that one too, right?" When she went on to say that she'd been blinded, Andy furrowed his brow and cocked his head just slightly to the side much like a puppy trying to comprehend a scolding. "Wait, what?" he asked stupidly.

Up until now, the experiments, as far as he knew, were always the same, just set in different places or parts of the day for the people chosen for them. It didn't make sense to him that she'd experienced something he hadn't and vise-versa.

Slowly, Andy started toward the gas station again, nodding in that direction in a gesture for her to follow. Company, he thought, yeah...would be nice. It wouldn't exactly be a change of pace, per se, for Andy, but he always preferred the company of others to the company of his thoughts.

When he spoke about the other experiment he'd been in that day she cocked her head a little as well, though she groaned quietly at the mention of blood. Fuck, what was going on in this place? "No, nothing with mirrors. Or at least I didn't cut myself on any to know they were there." The frown lingered on her lips but she recounted part of her first experiment. "Somehow I was blind, myself and another man, though there was nothing over my eyes and they otherwise seemed to work. I'm not sure how that's even possible but..." A quick sigh and she carried on. "Someone was shoving us around, smearing blood on us in the process, and then they were trying to push us into a fire."

The vampire shivered, just enough to be noticeable, as they walked. It was most certainly not an experience she wanted to repeat. But she had noticed his reaction, and made her a little weary. "Are these things not normally like that? Assuming there's been some sort of pattern over the time you've been here."

Andy's brow knit more heavily as Selene went on telling him that she hadn't been in the mirror room. She said that she'd been blinded somehow without a blindfold which Andy didn't even want to think about. The more she talked, the more Andy's brow furrowed until he could actually feel the muscles in his face starting to ache from it and he had to force himself to relax. "Jesus..." he breathed. Although, even if he wouldn't say it to her face, he felt like Selene had gotten the better end of the deal. She hadn't had to smell a friend's burnt flesh. The memory made him shudder. "That's fucked up. We usually all have the same experiment at the same time..." he said, his voice trailing off pensively.

Frowning, Andy nodded at Selene's question. "I dunno that they're all that messed up, because I've only had one on my second day. They tied me up back to back with some girl in the rain in the woods and left us for dead. I spent a fair share of my time here limping around on a torn up leg from when the cougar out there attacked me when I was trying to get away. They were, at least, nice enough to leave a knife just out of reach and stuck in a tree that we managed to get loose to cut the ropes, but..." It hurt like hell to call Martha some girl, but the name would've meant nothing to Selene. He bowed his head a little guiltily as he thought about it.

"Used to be, like, every other day people got picked for the experiments, but now they seem like they're all the time. Or maybe I'm just getting more paranoid. Neither really appeals to me, honestly," he replied as he approached the gas station and pulled open the door, gesturing for her to go inside first in an effort to be polite.
