Dig Yourself, Laz'rus Dig Yourself Back In That Hole
Who: L Lawliet and OPEN
What: L's new shovel is too sore a temptation for the restless detective. He's had it in his head for a while that he wants to see if it's possible to tunnel under the glass wall, and this seems like as good an opportunity as any to test it out.
Where: The side of the glass wall nearest to the deep part of the forest.
When: Day 16, around 9:00 A.M.
Rating: PG for now
Status: Active.

L had been thinking about this for a long time. He'd been in Vas Captio for long enough that it was starting to feel like the closest thing to home he had ever known, but the free man in him still bristled at being caged like an animal and toyed with at the whim of unseen entities. After the events of this morning, finding his own "gift" and seeing and reading about others, well... he felt ready to take a stand. To do something to spring himself from this sadistic world.

He didn't want to be in the liquor store, with not enough alcohol and Laura's picture of Robbie and Shadow. So it made sense, to come out here to the woods and the wall with a brand new, sturdy shovel that simply begged to be tested. L was tempted to simply hit the surface of the glass with the blade, at an angle so that it was more likely to shatter, but he was well aware that such an act would be futile. If others had not succeeded here, he would only be foolish. Setting the tip of the spade against the soft earth, he stepped on it, feeling the soil give way easily.

So far, so good. He wondered how long his stand would last.

"Can't say I met him yet," the physician drawled, taking up a stick and digging it unattentively into the dirt beside him. "I'm surprised you'd want anything to do with shovels then," he said offhandedly, more digging with his stick.

"Well, with any luck I guess you'll hit the bottom of the glass before you hit the water table..." Bones looked up with a grin playing across his features. "You ever been to Mississippi?"

"I haven't seen him around lately. Perhaps you will, and perhaps he's dead," L replied bluntly, digging his shovel into the earth with a slightly more violent jab. "Everyone keeps dying, or leaving... and others keep appearing. It's nasty business, I'm so tired of seeing new faces." he glanced at the relatively new Bones. "No offense intended, of course... I'm just not the type to adjust well to change." he certainly looked like this was the case; haggard and somewhat peaky looking, he almost seemed to want a heat stroke.

"It's odd. This shovel was a gift from the people in charge of this place after that incident... it's actually somewhat useful, as you see," he said, taking a moment to grasp the shovel by the shaft and tap the tip against the ground without breaking the surface. The image it cut was of a much more confident young man than L usually appeared. "Not only that... it reminds me of what I can survive. Of what I will survive. I am going to last as long as this place does. I am going to see the experiment end." He set his jaw, continuing to dig. "I was there once. I like the sound of insects at night."
