Day 2: Mid-Day

What: A meeting at the Carnival
Where: The Ferris Wheel
When: Let's say Mid-Day, shall we?
Rating: Possibly as high as PG-13 I'd guess, for language

If you want to leave your subthread for another please post your character exiting the one thread so people don't wait for you to post in it.)

The Doctor had slept uneasily. It had been a long, long time since the Tme Lord had been unable to get a restful night's sleep. He think of a handful of times that he'd been unable to get comfortable or shut his mind off or just relax - but it was never quite as pronounced as this. The Doctor, waking from his slumber in the back of a bumper car. The night hadn't been too cold, and there was just something strangely amusing about falling asleep in the confines of a useless vehicle.

What wasn't so amusing was the way the Doctor had been awaken with a jolt as the car started moving. "What?!" Came a near yelp as the Doctor struggled to sit up in the car. Looking left and right the gallifreyan threw himself out of the car and onto the slippery mat. "What?!" He said again, ducking out of the path of an oncoming vehicle. This was beyond strange. There hadn't been any electricity before now. The Doctor wondered if the sudden source could be used to charge generators and batteries. Heading out with a dash he looked around - the carnival seemed suddenly quiet once more.

He found himself at the foot of the Ferris Wheel, which was stagnant and looming. He didn't like the feel of it suddenly. He hadn't been terribly at unease for a while; but, now he was feeling like a rat in a maze. Why would things come alive so suddenly? Taking out his journal the Doctor penned a note, making sure to remind everyone of the meeting they had planned. He'd need them all if they were to harvest any of the batteries from the bumper cars before they became useless. Taking up a seat on a bench the Doctor thought - where in the world could we get a screwdriver?

Setting his elbows to his knees the Doctor leaned forward and tried to relax. People would come, and when they did he'd be able to better think of ways to escape.

One more thing on her 'Things I'd Rather Be Getting Drunk Than Doing' list was the meeting at the carnival. She'd told Martha and the Doctor both that she'd be there. Not to mention...Sam.

That thought brought the bottle of liquor back to her lips as she meandered in. Her gait was, to say the least, less than as graceful as it rightfully should've been given her background in dance, but she hardly noticed. She wasn't drunk yet, but she was getting there and the sooner, the better.

Knocking back another healthy swig, Shannon stopped dead in her tracks seeing Sam straight ahead, leaning against the fence outside a ride called the Hammer. She capped the bottle and tucked it under her arm for probably the millionth time that day and looked over her shoulder for Domeki. After having talked to him about all of her suspicions - some she hadn't even realized she'd had until she'd actually voiced them - seeing Sam just standing there and no one else in plain sight made her uncomfortable and tense all over again.

So, Shannon did what any person in her shoes - at least she hoped it wasn't just her - would do; she stood there and stared anywhere but at Sam's face. Luckily for her, just then she heard a cacophony of other voices scattered about, so she quickly covered by looking around for their sources. Hopefully either she'd find them and have an excuse not to be alone with Sam...or Domeki would come; either way was fine with her.

Domeki walked into the Carnival with a slow but steady step. He hadn't yet had enough of the liquor now in Shannon's possession to appear even slightly tipsy but he thought that fact might just change by the end of this arranged meeting. Initially, he had intended to stay clear minded enough to be able to answer questions and to absorb the meaningful answers given by the others - should anyone else have any answers about either this place or exactly what was happening. Now, he merely hoped that something useful would come from all of this, even if that something was little more than a better understanding of any common element among all of those gathered.

He followed idly a few paces behind Shannon and he paused when she came to a sudden stop. An eyebrow arched and he opened his mouth to ask if something was wrong - but the answer to that question seemed to be standing a few feet away from the pair of them in the form of a rather tall young man. Conclusions were easy to find when Shannon was studiously avoiding looking at the stranger and the stranger, himself, was rather unique - both in height and in...something else - and Domeki briefly wondered if avoiding the possible confrontation entirely would be the wisest course.

"Do you want to try to find where the others are?" He finally asked Shannon. It was a slight offer of an escape from having to spend an awkward moment with her suspected stranger and he wouldn't blame her if she chose to take it - but he, personally, found himself rather curious. "I hear other voices from over there."

Luna Lovegood was completely, and utterly sugar high, as she had never before been. A dozen pixie sticks, a bottle of honey sweetened tea and a package of Almond Joy, and she was practically flying without even a broom in sight. She had floated off from the Doctor at some point or another, and had suddenly remembered that people were going to meet at something called a Vail of Carnies. Odd Muggle names.

She had hoped to find Piper somewhere in her travels, as the crow flies, but found nothing. Perhaps because crows never did fly straight, but always were distracted by shiny things. Luna herself was not as interested in things of a shiny nature, as much as those with scales or fur or fairy dust. While she did not venture far into the forest, she did go in at least enough to try to investigate enough to see if the gnomes had come out of hiding yet. They had not.

In fact, there were no small rodents or birds in the forest at all. Except for at least one vulture that had flown overhead.

So she was a bit late to the party when she finally both found and remembered the Vail of Carnies.

Spotting Sam right away, as he was monstrously tall, and went skip-running over to him immediately. "Saaaaaaaam!" And she leapt, quite well she thought, to hop onto his back. Small hands clung to his shoulders, as she looked over his shoulder at him. "Afternoon Sam." A goofy smile graced her lips, but nothing else spoke if this being unusual. Even if she was nearly bouncing with sugary goodness.

Sam had been lost in thoughts of the past as he leaned forward onto the railing and stared at the deserted ride in front of him. His senses seemed off, since he was only aware of Luna a split second before she pounced him. Delicate hands clutched his shoulders and he craned his neck awkwardly to see the girl who had just jumped him with a look of bewilderment. "Luna?" He asked in response to her unmistakably cheerful greeting. He turned slightly to the right, going in a half circle, in order to see her better and realized they weren't alone, he spotted Shannon and someone else a few feet away and gave out a small embarrassed laugh.

He fought for control as he felt warmth making it's way into his face and raised his eyebrows as he turned slightly to the left away from Shannon and the newcomer. "Luna," he said, his voice low. "Could you, um, get off me?" He knit his eyebrows in confusion as he looked at her, not entirely sure if this greeting was normal or not. The truth was he hadn't known Luna long enough to know. Something seemed different about her though, she seemed amplified somehow and it made Sam uneasy.

Not only that, it seemed weird that she was alone. His expression changed slightly into one that was more neutral. "Where's Andy?"

Looking over at Domeki, Shannon opened her mouth to reply when she heard a female voice shout Sam's name and she turned her head back in time to see the small girl launch herself onto Sam's back. Shannon's eyebrows raised and a decidedly what-the-fuck expression crossed her face. Did that girl know Sam from before here or was Shannon completely off-base in worrying about Sam's trustworthiness?

She looked back at Domeki with a would you get a load of this shit? expression. "I heard other voices, too," she agreed, taking a few steps closer to Domeki to cower slightly behind him without even realizing she'd made the move. She wasn't sure whether they should go off to find the sources of the other voices, but she wanted to. Maybe the Doctor was one of them. He was another person she trusted. The list of people was small: Cheryl, Domeki, Jay (and Bob, by extension, even if she hadn't met him), and the Doctor. "What do you think?" she asked rather than answer Domeki's inquiry.

Domeki watched with a vaguely amused expression as the tall young man - Sam, he had come to assume - was pounced upon by a youngish blond woman but it didn't strike him quite as odd as it seemingly did Shannon. The reason behind this was the simple fact that jumping on someone from behind was something he could easily see Kunogi doing to Watanuki - not that he had ever seen the girl do any such thing but she, too, was the cheerful and friendly sort and she, too, seemed to have no issue with enthusiastic greetings.

The thought of his lost classmate brought forth a slight pang but Domeki hid this easily as he turned his attention to Shannon - who now seemed to be content to hide behind him. An eyebrow raised at this fact but he did nothing to call attention to it. "They do seem pretty distracted," he mused in reference to the two just a short bit away. "I don't think they'd notice if we just walked past."

"Uh huh," came her excited reply, the two sounds nearly tripping over each other in their excitement to get out and be heard by the world. Clinging to his back was a bit harder when he was moving, but considering she had ridden both thestrals and hippogryphs by her sixteenth bithday, Sam was quite a bit easier. He did not have wings after all. Really it should have been marked as quite the accomplishment to hop onto his back, because he was just so huge!

She thought she could even see her house from here. Well, if they were not trapped in Bubble Village, she would probably have been able to see Ottery St. Catchpole. Awful tall he was.

"He went to I think what the Americans call a Chemist's, looking for something with a Bob who is Silent." Oddly, she could not remember what he had told her he was looking for, oh well. "I went looking for tea and pudding, found the tea but did not find a single pudding. What sort of place does not have pudding? Well, except for greenery faerie dens, because they prefer hedgehog pudding than chocolate. And I do not like hedgehog. Perhaps if I ate meat I would like hedgehog. Do you like hedgehog? Does it taste as spiky as it looks?"

Remembering that he had asked her to not be on his back, even though it really was the easiest way to talk to him, being at eye level and all, Luna released her position and plopped back down to earth.

"I really like your Muggle candy," was the punctuated statement to her full-on-hyper-energy-ramble-babble. "What is dextrose? Pixie walking Stix are made of dextrose and I like sticks of pixies." With her piece done, she simply looked at the much larger young man and beamed a sunny smile up at him.

Sam tried to work out what Luna was saying, which wasn't exactly easy considering the speed in which she was talking, her English accent and the strange string of words she was using. Though he managed to work out fairly fast that Andy had gone to the pharmacy, probably in search for something for his leg. The rest about faeries, and hedgehog pudding was kind of lost on him. "I don't know," Sam said, honestly, feeling as if Luna expected some kind of answer from him.

Luna's hold on him loosened and he felt her slide to the ground. He turned towards her once he was free, raising an eyebrow and giving a small involuntary laugh as she asked what dextrose was. "Pixie stix, huh?" he asked, shaking his head slightly. It was hard not to be amused by her current state or return her smile, despite the fact that he felt like he might have to discuss personal space with her soon. His eye caught Shannon and the stranger from earlier and he turned his attention towards them.

"Hey," he said, raising a palm up in greeting. His eyes moved from Shannon who looked much better than she had that morning to the man with her. "I'm Sam."

Shannon nodded. Sam looked pretty preoccupied by the blonde with the apparent sugar high. It would've been funny, seeing the hyperactive girl with Sam in contrast to Shannon's own alcohol-induced sluggishness.

As the girl dropped down off Sam's back, Shannon closed a hand around one of Domeki's wrists. "Yeah, come on, let's go," she said softly. Because, if they didn't go soon then --

Caught. Shannon gave Sam a forced, awkward smile and nod combination. She took another step behind Domeki and dipped her head, suddenly finding the 'borrowed' sneakers very interesting. In spite of herself, she wondered if he had the knife on him right that very second or if he'd left it back in the museum; she hadn't thought to look when she'd been there to grab her journal a short while ago.

Normally, she'd have felt obligated to introduce Domeki to Sam, but she decided to let her heroic poet do the honors himself. She'd watch the way he interacted with Sam as well as the way that the other girl - Luna? Was that what she'd heard Sam call the girl? - interacted with him. For now, she was still tense and suspicious, but she was more than willing to let that status change if Sam gave her a reason for it to.

Domeki would have readily agreed to her suggestion that the two of them leave before they were spotted but he never had the chance - just as he was moving to nod, he noted that Sam had turned their way and he wasn't quite rude enough to walk away without good reason. As it was, he returned the single handed wave with one of his own. "Domeki. I've...heard a lot about you."

What, exactly, he had heard went mostly unsaid - mostly because Domeki had yet to settle his own feelings on the matter. He couldn't quite deny that this Sam had an unique feeling about him - and that his size was a bit daunting - but there was nothing overtly wrong about him. Cleverness could easily explain if Shannon was right about Sam being able to keep his knife after his ordeal in the woods and, even if Sam did have the knife, he seemed to have no intent to use it - at least not immediately for Domeki couldn't see that the other was carrying it with him.

"I don't believe I know your friend," he continued after a moment. His glance turned to the young blond woman who had earlier pounced upon Sam and he offered another slight wave. "If you two want some time alone, we'd be happy to move along."

There had been a brief trip out to the gym, for a shower and to have her bandages checked. The one on her back was gone now, thankfully the wounds were not particularly deep, and were easily protected by her clothing. The ones on her wrist were merely replaced, because that was she was more likely to get mud and rainwater in the chafed skin.

Sam did not have an answer to her question on hedgehog pudding, but she simply shrugged, deciding that she would ask either him or Andy about meat later. With that strange 'barbecue' going on that night. Or, perhaps, to make her evidence more correct, she would ask both as well as an outside witness.

Acting more as a bobblehead than a young woman, Luna nodded happily at the mention of Pixie's Sticks. "I like the yellow ones, they taste of sunshine." She was not drunk, there had been a time or two where she had had Firewhiskey and other alcoholic drinks with the standing members of the Order of Phoenix, so she had been drunk before. No, Luna was completely and totally sugar high in a completely new way.

Her quarter-giant friend, as she had determined him as such, was welcome to attempt to explain what 'personal space' was. There would be little luck at it, however.

The two individuals off to the side were addressed, and Luna watched them both curiously, still standing quite close to Sam. Neither seemed overtly threatening, and she was in the same mood as a happy hummingbird, so she did as the bird would and flitted over. Or, at least, flitted over halfway between the three. "I do not believe I know you either, I am Luna."

Sam let out another amused huff as Luna said the yellow pixie sticks tasted of sunshine. It'd been years since he'd had them himself, but all he could remember was a tangy sugar punch. It was weird to think that some kids had never had them before. "How many did you have?" He asked, looking down at Luna with a little bit of concern.

He followed Luna over to Domeki and Shannon, sticking his hands in his pockets and looking slightly embarrassed at Luna's outgoing nature. Though, the truth was he was glad someone could be cheerful under these circumstances. Mostly he'd been fighting down worry and a sense that their current situation wasn't one that was going to be easily solved. Still, he'd thought Martha's idea of the meeting was a good idea and would do a lot in respect to maybe figuring out why they where all there, though how seemed unsolvable at this point.

He'd glanced at Shannon, who seemed to be looking at anywhere but him, when Domeki said he'd heard a lot about him. His brow furrowed slightly before smoothing out as he worried if Shannon had thought his behavior the night before was weird.

"No, we're okay," Sam said quickly, when Domeki offered to leave him and Luna alone. "We were just waiting for the meeting." Or at least he had been, he assumed Luna had entered the carnival for the same reason.

He turned his attention back to Shannon, who was standing slightly behind Domeki. "Find anything good at the pharmacy?" He looked at Luna. "You didn't happen to see a guy with a banged up leg there, did you?"

It was all Shannon could do not to backhand Domeki in the side when he told Sam that he'd heard a lot about the other man. She looked hastily away, instead. At least he hadn't told Sam what she'd said about him. That would've been decidedly bad.

The smaller woman made her way a little closer and Shannon's eyes moved to her, arching her own eyebrows just slightly. "Shannon," she introduced herself simply, giving the other girl a half-smile.

Shannon looked back at Sam when he quickly dismissed Domeki's suggestion that he and Shannon leave the other two alone. When Sam asked whether she'd found anything good at the pharmacy, she gave him the same half-smile she'd given Luna and held up the bottle of peppermint schnapps. Hopefully, Domeki would keep his promise and not mention the inhalers.

Shaking her head, Shannon's eyes followed Sam's. "Sorry, no," she said. She looked back at Domeki and shifted uncomfortably behind him. "So when exactly does this thing, like, start...?" she asked no one in particular. She didn't mention the fact that the sooner it started, the sooner she could down more alcohol and the happier she'd be.

"Nice to meet you, Luna," Domeki bowed his head slightly to the blond and offered a slight smile. His attention soon drifted enough to catch both the slightly furrowed brow of Dean and the quick reaction of Shannon to his words and he realized how easily his earlier comment could be misread. Not intending for that to happen, he moved to explain further - hopefully to put any suspicions to rest.

"I've heard that you're responsible for much of this," Domeki continued, gesturing vaguely to their surroundings but implying more than just the carnival itself. "That you're one of the ones making the effort to put all of this together."

Domeki naturally had no intention of giving away Shannon's true reason for going to the pharmacy and so he merely remained silent, allowing her to answer or not answer as she saw fit - though it did serve as a good reminder that he would have to remember to give the inhalers back to her once the meeting was over and before she returned to wherever she was staying for the night.

"Are we still waiting for everyone to show?" He asked in response to Shannon's question. His attention drifted again as he glanced to their surroundings and he found himself idly wondering if Watanuki would bother to show - or if that idiot was already hanging about. He wasn't quite curious enough to wander away from the current group, figuring that the question would be answered sooner rather than later, and so he returned his attention to his current companions.

Counting the pixie canes that Luna had in the pocket of her small jean jacket, with as much care as if she was handling unicorn tail hairs or boomslang skins, she took a moment to answer Sam's question. "Eight." In actuality it was not high of a number, especially seeing as how tiny each tube was, and in a normal metabolism that was used to the commercial sweetener, it would have had some but not much of an effect. There was just something about that particular manufactured sugar derivative that did not gel well with her system. Although, it was a quite pleasant sugary goodness, in her opinion.

Luna offered him one of the five she had left, a yellow one.

The much taller woman seemed uncomfortable, that would be a descriptive way to put it, uncomfortable around Sam for some reason. Perhaps she was always in such a state, but a look back at Sam showed that his face crinkled up for a bit. Remembering the short conversation she had had with the other woman, Luna remembered her seeming unease about the quarter giant being elected a leader in a roundabout way.

Shannon would see, Luna believed, that Sam had a good head on his shoulders. Even if his hair was a bit fussy and emotive. "We spoke in letters without owls," she reminded her, although she did not know if Shannon had thought anymore of what she had said. That it was really those that followed that turned the tides, not those that led, even if those had not been the exact words she had used. The fact that none of those around her likely communicated through Owl Post, Luna had not really thought about it. She had spent her life around Wizards and Witches, after all, and very little around Muggles. Their day to day conveniences were simply not considered.

She smiled back at the one who called himself Domeki. Or perhaps he just made himself a new word and liked to say it, either or, Luna would call him Domeki.

Actually, Luna had missed the entry from Martha about a meeting at the Carnival. Her appearing there had been more or less an accident. Not that she believed that anything was really an accident, things happened for a reason, they always happened for a reason. So perhaps Luna was meant to be there, that would make the most sense. Since she did not have an answer, there was a humming contentedness that accompanied her eating another of her canes for old or infirmed Pixies. Ooh, red.

Sam gave Luna an amused look when she said the number of sticks that she'd eaten. It really wasn't a large number at all. Unless the pixie sticks here had a higher concentration of sugar than he remembered. He took the pixie stick extended to him and smiled. "Thanks."

Sam looked surprised when Domeki said he'd heard he was responsible for the meeting. "Kind of," Sam said, giving Domeki a small smile. "It was Martha's idea that we all meet together, though I think it's a good one. Maybe we can figure out what we all have in common and work out a way to get out of here." He shrugged, not quite sure if they'd be able to do either. "Hopefully."

He raised his eyebrows slightly when Shannon held up the bottle of schnapps. That was one kind of medication. Shannon asked when the meeting was supposed to start and Sam looked around. "Now, I think?"

He turned to Domeki. "I know that there are other people coming. Maybe we're just not in one centralized location yet." He glanced at the others. "Maybe we should find the others."

Shannon opened her mouth to respond to the other woman but closed it again, giving the girl an incredulous look mixed liberally with confusion. "I'm sorry, we what...?" she sputtered, blinking rapidly as she tried turning over the statement in her head for a possible miscommunication. But no, Luna had definitely said letters without owls and what the fuck did that even mean...?

There, Sam was confirming that he was trying to figure out what they all had in common. It had seemed like a good idea at the time, but Shannon couldn't see a single thing she had in common with most of the people she'd met, save the fact that she shared the same hair and eye color as some of them and that they were all stuck in this place without a say in the matter. She doubted any of those so-called revelations would be of much help in determining why they were all there nor would it help them find a way out, so she said nothing.

"I dunno, I guess...?" Shannon replied to Domeki's question with uncertainty and then looked back at Sam when he spoke again, first to her and then again to Domeki. "I vote we go find the other people," she said, purposefully avoiding a parrot of Sam's "the others" simply because it meant something very different to her, these days.

Domeki watched and listened to the blond who had arrived with Sam with quiet amusement. Much of what she said was very hard for him to follow but, this once, he had the feeling that it had little to do with any language barriers. He couldn't quite imagine that Americans, or British as this Luna seemed to be, traditionally used owls for post but he did entertain the idea that the woman was, perhaps, a bit closer in touch with things most people wouldn't know.

"It should be interesting to see if there is anything common among all of us," he agreed with Sam with a small nod. What went unspoken was that he and two with whom he had arrived had tried to find a common bond but it could just be that their group had been too small to get any true idea. Even if it seemed doubtful, at the moment, Domeki still wanted to think that there was a logical reason for why so many diverse people had been drawn into this strange situation. "With all of us working on it, there has to be some way to get out of here."

"Finding everyone else seems like a good idea," he nodded to Shannon. "From the sounds of it, there's already a good number of people gathered."
