Who: Jack Harkness and Rose Tyler
What: Reunited (and it feels so good!)
Where: Just Outside the Museum
When: Day 15, early evening, around 7ish
Rating: PG-13ish
Status: Active

When she'd first woken up in this horrible place, Rose had been able to acknowledge that it was strange. There was obviously something off about it and it didn't take a genius like her traveling companion to figure that out. Even her slower mind could follow. But now... Now, it wasn't just creepy. It was cruel. There was torture around every turn and fear in most everyone's eyes, even if they didn't show it on the surface. She'd gotten good at watching people lately, and she knew she was in serious trouble just by watching the others. They all were.

Despite warnings to not go off by herself, Rose...was, well, Rose. Going off by herself was what she did best. Right behind getting into trouble alone and getting out of trouble with help. Besides, she wasn't going far. It was getting dark, even if just barely, and she didn't trust herself to not get into real truoble. So she walked outside of the museum, the hostel style environment that the pretty Shannon had invited her to. She hadn't caught sight of Jack yet, but she knew he was around and that's all that mattered. And the Doctor...probably in there being social and meeting everything with a pulse. It was one of those things she loved about him.

Sliding down the wall in front of the building, Rose wrapped herself more tightly in her blue hooded jacket and pulled the hood over her head. She didn't do so in an effort to keep warm; this place was similar to England with its temperatures and though it was likely to get colder as it got later, she wasn't likely to freeze. But it was nice to be able to hide from so many strange faces. As kind as everyone had been, it was still the most surreal thing ever. Plus that feeling that someone was hiding something from her. It was an uneasy sensation, and she curled her arms around her knees as she held her breath and released it slowly, letting the events of the day wash over her.

Knowing she was here and actually seeing Rose Tyler were two very different things. So when she stood and wrapped her arms around him, Jack was only too willing to pull her into a tight embrace, burying his face in the crook of her neck. He had said goodbye to her one final time in the TARDIS, fully expecting to never see her again.

But the woman who was hugging him now wasn't the same woman. In a way, Jack envied her -- she still thought she had so much to look forward to. As much as he loved Martha (and to some extent, Donna), Rose would always hold the largest corner of his heart. Hell, the woman brought him back from death! One had to love her just for that reason alone.

"I really am here. Unless this is a body double." Jack shuddered. "And we've already had clones here, so it's the real me." Jack arched a brow. "Assuming you did want to see the real me, that is."

Jack drew in a breath and watched Rose for a moment. "Something is different. I have a grey hair. I meant to pull it out the other day, but forgot." Lie, Harkness, lie.

Reaching up, Rose lightly traced his features with her fingertips. No, it was definitely not some clone. Even a clone couldn't copy that smirk to such perfection. Still, he had changed. Something from the satellite, maybe, or something since he'd arrived here.

"Just one?" she questioned, pulling back a bit to shoot him a smug look. "I see at least three, Harkness. You know, my mum says if you pluck a gray hair, three more grow in its place. And she's a beautician, she should know." Granted, she had no proof of that, but what had been implanted in Rose's impressionable mind as a child had stuck.

"How long have you been here?" Time. She couldn't understand it. Though she'd spent the last several months trying to, it kept passing her by. She understood it wasn't linear, but how was one person in a place for days when another had only just gotten there? And how had Remy, who claimed to not technically be a time-traveler, arrived from a time more than ten years before Rose's own? Still, she was too grateful to see Jack again to argue, and she grinned a little. "Or maybe the better question should be, 'what have you been doing here?'."

Jack leaned into that gentle touch, unable to keep from grinning as she ran her fingers over his face. God, he really had missed her -- perhaps moreso when he saw her so young and full of life. This was the woman he adored beyond belief. When he saw her years later after all that time in that parallel universe, she seemed changed. But this? This was his rose.

"Three?" Jack looked at her with mock horror. "It's you scaring the ever living daylights out of me by arriving here," he said, tutting softly. "And they don't grow back. Urban myth. However, saw something once upon a time in the Cardian galaxy. Pulled one grey hair and the poor creatures went bald."

That, however, was the easiest question for Jack to answer. "A little more than a week," Jack replied. "Maybe about ten days now. Long enough to be going through coffee withdrawl and ready to kill anyone for a decent cup. Stuff we got this morning was good but not what I'm used to." Jack flashed her a grin then, attempting to adopt an air of innocence. "What do you mean 'what'. Isn't the better question 'who'?"

Ten days. The last time she'd seen him was less than ten days ago. And he certainly hadn't looked like that. He seemed older, no matter what he said about one grey hair. Oh, he still looked dashing, there was no doubt there. Jack Harkness could be a little old man with a rocker and still charming the women, and men, too, in the old person's home. But he wasn't the man who had kissed her goodbye, told her she was worth saving, and then charged off into battle.

The thought was stirring, and Rose took a step back. Still, she smiled over her shoulder at him as she bent to pick his coat up off the floor. "Not according to this," she pointed out, reading the note over. "Sharing your coat, are you? Is this the Welshman?" Had Jack Harkness, Galaxy-Wide Flirt, actually found someone long term? Impossible. Well. Maybe not completely impossible. But it was hard to imagine the bloke who could make it with a dozen people in a day or two settling down with one man. And yet, she found she sort of liked the idea. Who else would he be sharing his coat with? "Isn't this the one Gambit had?" Now that was a subject she felt a little more comfortable in. At least she'd met the Cajun man. The Welsh boy, though cute, was still very new to her.

Ten days. Hmm. Still, she smiled up at him innocently enough. "You Americans and your coffee. I can't find one Brit who drinks as much of it as you do."

If she asked, Jack already had his explanation ready to go: they just got grabbed from any point in time. So what was a day for her was really ten days for him. But he was the same Jack Harkness she knew and loved -- sans the two thousand years he spent buried beneath Cardiff.

Jack plucked the note from her hands and crumpled it, shoving it into his pocket. "It's a duplicate," Jack said quickly. "And he also doesn't know how to spell it either. I-A-N-T-O," Jack intoned. "It's the one Gambit mistakenly had for a time," Jack said, shaking his head. There was a hint of a smile, though, knowing the Doctor had probably talked to Gambit to get it back.

He grinned at that, settling down on a step and patting the ground beside him. "I have someone you should meet. That very Welshman. He's the one who brews it for me."

Rose had to giggle at Gambit's spelling of Ianto's name. As off as his English sometimes was, a Welsh name had to be completely foreign to him. "Hey, it's not an easy name to spell. Not simple and easy like, I dunno, Jack." She put the emphasis on 'easy' with purpose and wiggled her eyebrows up at him.

"Tell me about the Welshman. He's cute. Love his eyes." She took the spot by his side and curled up against his arm. "So, he brews you coffee?" Wait a minute. "How?" There was clearly no such thing as a coffee maker in this crazy planet. The way people had practically danced over coffee and food that morning led her to believe there wasn't much in the way of anything with taste there.

Once again, things weren't adding up to the young Londoner. And she really, really hated it.

Rose may have giggled at the spelling, but Jack was still a bit annoyed at the Cajun. Sure, the feeling would fade with time and having the coat in his possession once more was a good way of starting things out right. "Easy like Jack? I suppose that's one way of putting it," Jack replied, pulling a face. "I'm not always easy. I do have some standards you know."

Jack arched a brow in her direction. "You've seen him, then?" Jack asked. God, he sounded like a fucking love-sick puppy. "It is about the eyes. And the hair." And the filthy mind, Jack added silently. "He did," Jack quickly amended. "It's been a while, but he did. One damn fine cup of coffee."

And, as per usual -- Jack was the one to fuck things up.

Rose was having a hard time focusing on Jack's standards. How could she? First she was distracted with a Welshman with pretty eyes and great hair. But then there was the 'it's been a while'. A while since when? Had he known this bloke before? And if so, where?

She grew quiet for a minute. She couldn't come right out and ask him. If she was just being paranoid, she'd sound like an idiot. And if she was right and something was being hidden from her, then he wasn't going to just blurt it out, was he? No, this would take time. And thought. And the worst part was, she couldn't ask the Doctor's help. She was on her own on this one.

Absently, she traced a circular pattern on her knee with the tip of her index finger. "We haven't met formally or anything. I just saw him come in. Shannon described everyone for me in the journal. Wasn't hard to tell, he's the only one with that accent." She had to keep him talking. Gather any and all clues. This was insane.
