Experiment Part 2: Andy and Tonks
Who: Andy Gallagher and Nymphadora Tonks
What: Being gluttons for punishmnet
Where: An undisclosed location
When: Day 15, 10:36 AM
Rating: PG-13

Status: Active

Welcome to your final stop in our little game, children. Sure, this room may have been occupied previously; but, it's made extra special just for you. Sitting on a single folding chair are Andy Gallagher (fresh from watching the murder of his friends) and Nymphadora Tonks, who probably thought she had died. Don't they make such a cute couple? C'mon, really!

That folding chair is set in the center of the room beneath a single bulb that is slowly pulsing light to dark as it plays a slow and tedious game with their line of sight. The room looks wet, and at it's brightest is quite red. Lining the walls, as before is a collection of mirrors in all shapes and sizes and status of wholeness. We really wanted you to look at your own face, Andy.

In one corner, just for you two, we brought in a special guest! Unfortunately, they didn't make it in so well. Slumped over with her moonbeam-shiny blonde hair is one Luna Lovegood. Sorry, Tonks, you couldn't protect her. From the looks of it, she'd been burned. Well, at least her hands. The rest of the burns? Well, we hid those from you. The room, for better or worse smells pretty much like cooked flesh. Be careful not to breathe too deeply, OK?

She tightened her grip against him. He was okay! Oh, thank Merlin. "Elliot's--" She gulped in air, not even caring about the smell at the moment. "She was--" She was trying to calm herself.

Breathing in deeply, Tonks took the moment to look around again. Another experiment? Two in one day? "They're tryin'a break us." And, quite honestly, Tonks wasn't so sure if they wouldn't. Now that her body was assured that it could, in fact, get the air it needed, the rest of her senses were catching up.

First, Tonks had looked at Andy weirdly, but then her nose caught up. "Cripes!" It was disgusting. Nose buried in the collar of her own shirt. "What the fuck is that?"

Andy's eyes widened slightly when Tonks didn't - or couldn't - finish her statement. Christ, not Elliot, too...please not Elliot, too... Clearly, Tonks was trying to calm herself. The need for that could not possibly be a good thing...

Her next statement, Andy thought, was pretty astute and probably accurate. He nodded, solemn. "Mission fucking accomplished on my end," he replied with a frown. It wasn't something he wanted to talk about, but it kind of came out of its own accord. "I just watched my best friends die. And Elliot--" he paused, shook his head, and held up his hands. Swallowing thickly, he finished, "Never mind. I don't wanna know. I can't."

As Andy's voice trailed off, Tonks seemed to notice the smell. "It's charred flesh, Tonks," he supplied in a small voice. "Jesus Christ, it's burned bodies or something."

His eyes moved around the room cautiously and he closed his eyes when he saw her. Immediately, he recognized Luna by her hair and thusly pulled Tonks into another hug and turned her away. She shouldn't have to see. He didn't want to, either.

"Okay, we just..." he started slowly, eyes opening again and reflexively settling on Luna again. The smell and the crumpled position she was in was all he needed to know. Tucking Tonks' head under his chin - more for his own comfort than hers, really - he went on. "We just gotta find the way out, right?" he asked. Trying to keep calm was becoming increasingly more difficult all over again. "We'll just find the way out and fuckin' book it, right?"

"Maybe she got us out safe.." Said quietly, thinking about it. "I didn't get us out.." She felt so damn helpless here. And hated it. Tonks hated the feeling of not being able to do anything to help. Please Merlin, at least let Elliot have gotten out. It took her a minute to get out of her thoughts and really understand what he said. "Charred.." Oh my god. She was ready to look around as well, but was pulled into another hug by Andy. Whatever he had seen, he didn't want her to see. Honestly, she knew very well that she wasn't going to want to see whatever it was. But had to.

But not yet. She stayed there, hair slowly fading of all colour even while Andy held her. Once he let go, she turned around slowly. Tonks was determined to face what it was. While she was turning, the witch caught sight of her reflection in the mirror. In the many mirrors. Blonde hair. Sunshine-blonde hair. Jaw set and she turned immediately back to Andy. There were tears in Tonks' eyes, but she was far too angry to do anything about them. "We're findin' a way out and goin' after these bloody bastards."

The idea that maybe Elliot had gotten them out, since Tonks was certain she hadn't been the one to get them out, made Andy feel a little better. Not much, but some. It was a tiny thing and he didn't want to underestimate Elliot, especially after the way she'd taken charge in the gym after the earthquake - not to mention in the church the other day, but he was supposed to forget that, so he was trying to - and so...Andy would cling to that. He wondered what they'd gone through and where they'd been, but now wasn't exactly the time to ask.

Tonks parrotted him and all he could do was nod more to himself than to her as he swallowed hard, Adam's apple bobbing in his throat. Eventually, he had to let her go, because they weren't going to get anywhere just standing around cowering away from Luna's corpse. Fuck, that hurt to even think... It didn't surprise him when she turned quickly back toward him. Andy could see the tears in her eyes and his own averted away out of respect for her privacy. He gave her a curt nod in agreement.

"Come on, look you go...over there," he said, pointing away from Luna, "and look for a break in the wall that could be a door or something. I'm gonna..." His voice trailed off and he swallowed thickly again. "I'm gonna check her," he said softly. Luna looked pretty dead to him, but if they found a way out and she was even barely clinging to life, she was coming with them, even if he had to carry her. There was no way in hell he was going to leave her there if she was still alive, even if it was only by a thread.
