Experiment Part 2: Andy and Tonks
Who: Andy Gallagher and Nymphadora Tonks
What: Being gluttons for punishmnet
Where: An undisclosed location
When: Day 15, 10:36 AM
Rating: PG-13

Status: Active

Welcome to your final stop in our little game, children. Sure, this room may have been occupied previously; but, it's made extra special just for you. Sitting on a single folding chair are Andy Gallagher (fresh from watching the murder of his friends) and Nymphadora Tonks, who probably thought she had died. Don't they make such a cute couple? C'mon, really!

That folding chair is set in the center of the room beneath a single bulb that is slowly pulsing light to dark as it plays a slow and tedious game with their line of sight. The room looks wet, and at it's brightest is quite red. Lining the walls, as before is a collection of mirrors in all shapes and sizes and status of wholeness. We really wanted you to look at your own face, Andy.

In one corner, just for you two, we brought in a special guest! Unfortunately, they didn't make it in so well. Slumped over with her moonbeam-shiny blonde hair is one Luna Lovegood. Sorry, Tonks, you couldn't protect her. From the looks of it, she'd been burned. Well, at least her hands. The rest of the burns? Well, we hid those from you. The room, for better or worse smells pretty much like cooked flesh. Be careful not to breathe too deeply, OK?

Andy came to slowly and still felt like hell. His eyes opened sluggishly and he groaned, feeling sick to his stomach all over again. The smell was awful, but he couldn't put his finger on it. He could feel someone beside him, but he couldn't make himself look. All he could think was, if it was Lexie or Sam's bodies, he couldn't handle it. Already, he was a horrible mess.

The light was hurting his eyes because of the way it was pulsing. Andy looked around, frowning. The first thing he noticed was that he seemed to be surrounded by mirrors. The last, very last thing he wanted right now was to look himself in the eye. It was his fault his friends were dead. He'd come to the conclusion that it was his punishment for killing Webber. They'd picked two of the three people who meant the very most to him in this place; in this life, and they'd murdered them both in cold blood and forced him to watch.

Staring down at the floor, he realized that it looked wet and he didn't even want to think about it. Maybe they'd kill him, now. Bring it all full circle. At this point, it would almost be welcome.

It is a dream, Nymphadora. This is all a dream with some intricate spell or potion and soon you will wake up with Siri and Remus hovering over your bed, trying to figure out what the fuck is wrong with you. Sirius is probably trying to get Ginny or Mrs. Weasley to make sure it wasn't a 'girl thing.' This is a dream.

So wake the fuck up.

The last nudge that her subconscious gave the generally-colourful woman was what did it. She woke up with a loud and frantic gasp for air. She had been suffocating in the dream, unable to breathe because of the fumes in the air. Mousy-brown Tonks woke up so quickly and spastically that she fell straight off of whatever chair propped her up against the other body. Body. Sid. Elliot! "Elliot." Croaked out from the floor, hands coming up to rub at her eyes. They still stung. "Elliot?" What was with the lights? Squinting, Tonks looked around from her position on the floor. There was something wet on the ground. She really didn't want to know.

It took a minute, but she realised that the other person in there (other live person, as she hadn't seen the body yet) was not Elliot. Instead it was.."Andy?" Scrambling up, she gave the familiar person a hug.

The person beside him fell off the chair and Andy stiffened instinctively. Oh Jesus, he'd knocked the body off the chair. His stomach churned at the thought. But then he heard Elliot's name and he looked down. "Where?!" he snapped reflexively. He recognized Tonks, though, by the pink hair and by the time he had a chance to respond to her asking for confirmation that he was himself, she was hugging him.

For no reason other than the fact that she was there and familiar and he was broken and afraid, Andy clung to her. "Hey, Tonks...you okay? Are...is Elliot with you? Or...was she...?" he asked. "Is that why...?" he let his voice trail off at that.

When he finally allowed himself to release her, he stood up and ran his hands through his hair. "Oh this is another one...I can't do this," he realized aloud, letting out a frustrated huff. And that was when the smell registered in his mind for what it was. "Oh, God..." he groaned, pulling the collar of his shirt up over his nose and grimacing. "Jesus Christ...that is...oh man," he moaned.

She tightened her grip against him. He was okay! Oh, thank Merlin. "Elliot's--" She gulped in air, not even caring about the smell at the moment. "She was--" She was trying to calm herself.

Breathing in deeply, Tonks took the moment to look around again. Another experiment? Two in one day? "They're tryin'a break us." And, quite honestly, Tonks wasn't so sure if they wouldn't. Now that her body was assured that it could, in fact, get the air it needed, the rest of her senses were catching up.

First, Tonks had looked at Andy weirdly, but then her nose caught up. "Cripes!" It was disgusting. Nose buried in the collar of her own shirt. "What the fuck is that?"

Andy's eyes widened slightly when Tonks didn't - or couldn't - finish her statement. Christ, not Elliot, too...please not Elliot, too... Clearly, Tonks was trying to calm herself. The need for that could not possibly be a good thing...

Her next statement, Andy thought, was pretty astute and probably accurate. He nodded, solemn. "Mission fucking accomplished on my end," he replied with a frown. It wasn't something he wanted to talk about, but it kind of came out of its own accord. "I just watched my best friends die. And Elliot--" he paused, shook his head, and held up his hands. Swallowing thickly, he finished, "Never mind. I don't wanna know. I can't."

As Andy's voice trailed off, Tonks seemed to notice the smell. "It's charred flesh, Tonks," he supplied in a small voice. "Jesus Christ, it's burned bodies or something."

His eyes moved around the room cautiously and he closed his eyes when he saw her. Immediately, he recognized Luna by her hair and thusly pulled Tonks into another hug and turned her away. She shouldn't have to see. He didn't want to, either.

"Okay, we just..." he started slowly, eyes opening again and reflexively settling on Luna again. The smell and the crumpled position she was in was all he needed to know. Tucking Tonks' head under his chin - more for his own comfort than hers, really - he went on. "We just gotta find the way out, right?" he asked. Trying to keep calm was becoming increasingly more difficult all over again. "We'll just find the way out and fuckin' book it, right?"

"Maybe she got us out safe.." Said quietly, thinking about it. "I didn't get us out.." She felt so damn helpless here. And hated it. Tonks hated the feeling of not being able to do anything to help. Please Merlin, at least let Elliot have gotten out. It took her a minute to get out of her thoughts and really understand what he said. "Charred.." Oh my god. She was ready to look around as well, but was pulled into another hug by Andy. Whatever he had seen, he didn't want her to see. Honestly, she knew very well that she wasn't going to want to see whatever it was. But had to.

But not yet. She stayed there, hair slowly fading of all colour even while Andy held her. Once he let go, she turned around slowly. Tonks was determined to face what it was. While she was turning, the witch caught sight of her reflection in the mirror. In the many mirrors. Blonde hair. Sunshine-blonde hair. Jaw set and she turned immediately back to Andy. There were tears in Tonks' eyes, but she was far too angry to do anything about them. "We're findin' a way out and goin' after these bloody bastards."

The idea that maybe Elliot had gotten them out, since Tonks was certain she hadn't been the one to get them out, made Andy feel a little better. Not much, but some. It was a tiny thing and he didn't want to underestimate Elliot, especially after the way she'd taken charge in the gym after the earthquake - not to mention in the church the other day, but he was supposed to forget that, so he was trying to - and so...Andy would cling to that. He wondered what they'd gone through and where they'd been, but now wasn't exactly the time to ask.

Tonks parrotted him and all he could do was nod more to himself than to her as he swallowed hard, Adam's apple bobbing in his throat. Eventually, he had to let her go, because they weren't going to get anywhere just standing around cowering away from Luna's corpse. Fuck, that hurt to even think... It didn't surprise him when she turned quickly back toward him. Andy could see the tears in her eyes and his own averted away out of respect for her privacy. He gave her a curt nod in agreement.

"Come on, look you go...over there," he said, pointing away from Luna, "and look for a break in the wall that could be a door or something. I'm gonna..." His voice trailed off and he swallowed thickly again. "I'm gonna check her," he said softly. Luna looked pretty dead to him, but if they found a way out and she was even barely clinging to life, she was coming with them, even if he had to carry her. There was no way in hell he was going to leave her there if she was still alive, even if it was only by a thread.

All four walls were wet with what would be immediately recognized as blood. Blood that Tonks had fallen in to. It would be thick on her skin and clothes. Sorry for the stain, sweetie.

As for the walls, don't bother looking for a door; you won't be finding one! More importantly, mind those mirrors, kiddies!

Both subjects were moving slowly in the pulsing light; and it might have been their perception being a bit off. But, that wouldn't explain the shadowy figure just over their left shoulders on the other side of the room. Always over their left shoulder no matter which way they turned. Hovering. Not close enough just yet; just there. Watching.

Tonks had to believe that Elliot was okay. Just had to. So when Andy accepted her reasoning, she found herself a little more relieved than not. She hazarded another glance at Luna, a frown deepening on her features while her hand came up to angrily swipe at rogue tears that might have possibly escaped. The witch laughed, but it was short and not at all her normal bubbles of laughter. "Fuckin' survived You-Know.." Give the enemy a name. Give them a name and you take away a little bit of their ability to frighten you so much. "Voldemort. And this?" It wasn't right. It just wasn't right. She was muttering to herself, though Andy would hear it too.

She nodded, two quick motions of her head up and down, and moved toward the wall that Andy indicated. The floor was slippery, so she was trying to take care of walking along it. It was only then that Tonks really noticed the now-drying stuff on her hands from when she had fallen. She passed a mirror, sniffing at her hand.

It was blood.

"Fuck me." Muttered again, staring briefly in the mirror. But the brief look called for a more extensive one. She could have sworn that there was someone else there. The witch snapped her head to the left so quick that she almost got dizzy from the effort. It wasn't something to be shrugged off. Nothing was here. But she was intent on finding a door. Tonks came up to the wall and felt around. It was wet too. This she'd come to sniff as well, because if it was blood..no, don't think about it Nymphadora. Don't think about how many creatures (people?) had to be gone through to get all of the macabre paint.

Another mirror was passed in her slow movements. And there it was again. Guardian devil, always to her left. She turned around again, this time fully. "Andy..?" Called out tentatively. "Think we've got company."

Andy went out of his way to push away the thought of familiarity of the terms Tonks was using. He didn't want to think about it; he'd heard them from Luna. Luna, bubbly and happy dead on the floor a few feet away. It made his stomach turn as he thought about it.

When Tonks moved away, Andy started toward Luna, breath hitching as he tried to take a deep, relaxing breath. Relaxing, that's hilarious, Gallagher, he thought angrily. His t-shirt slipped back down off his nose and he had to fight his gag reflex at the renewed pungence of the smell. Carefully, Andy crouched down in front of the body and reached out to push her hair away from her face. Then, he stopped. He couldn't make himself look at what was hiding under her hair.

Reaching his arm out, Andy pressed his fingers to her neck and closed his eyes, bowing his head slightly when he felt no pulse, even after moving his fingers around in case he'd missed the pulse point. There was nothing. "I'm sorry..." he whispered, furrowing his brow heavily and lifting his arm, quickly brushing a rogue tear off on his shoulder. "I promised you I'd keep you safe and I'm sorry."

Andy looked up into the mirror in front of himself to look at Tonks without having to look over his shoulder at her when he heard his name. That was when he noticed the blood. Fucking buckets of it... And then there was the shadow to his left and Andy gasped, falling over onto his backside as he tried to whirl toward it. Tonks was saying they had company and Andy was fairly certain she wasn't wrong...even though there was nothing there when he looked at the spot where the shadow had been in the mirror. "What the fuck...?" he asked as he got back to his feet. Looking at his hands to see what was so sticky, Andy grimaced. "Oh, Jesus!" he snapped, wiping his hands on his jeans. He looked back at Tonks. "Anything?" he asked. "Other than..." he let his voice trail off and raised his eyebrows to indicate that yeah, he'd seen it. Whatever it was.
