Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:!complete, day 15, location: gym, selene, the doctor (nine)

Who:  The Ninth Doctor and Selene
What: The Doctor is still trying to find out what's going on..
Where: Moving from the Post Office to the Gym
When: 12:30PM, Day 15
Rating: PG-13
Status: Compelte

After that unfortunately abrupt, brief interaction with the pretty young woman who seemed to think he was a clone (really, a clone?) the Doctor had focused blue eyes onto the gym across the way and was once again looking down at the strange little box of 'goodies' he'd been left. Really, he was quite thankful that he'd run into the nutter when he had.. she hadn't reacted well to his calling himself The Doctor at all. Sometimes it was like that.. sometimes he'd been places that he didn't remember being, and met people he didn't remember meeting, because he hadn't been there yet. And really, if he'd announced that he was The Doctor in front of a group full of people.. and they had reacted the way she had? Well, he didn't want to become public enemy number one in this little town he knew nothing of. He already held that title in other places and wasn't very proud of it. Well. Okay, maybe sometimes he was. But only when he gave into that little urge twitching at the back of his mind.

From now on, he'd be John Smith.

And once he'd decided that, John Smith was calmly making his way across the dirty, dusty road and towards the large structure across from the post office. The girl had seemed amiable enough before he'd given himself a designation.. so maybe the rest of the people would be just as nice to John Smith as she had been to the nameless man with the box.

It made her feel better that she wasn't the only one who thought the glass was a bit ridiculous. But she supposed if someone was stuck there for awhile they would get used to it. She had no intention of being there that long, not if she could help it. Her eyes went to the box when he pulled it out and she nodded slightly, pulling aside one fold of her coat to show where she'd stowed her items away. "It seems to be what everyone's given. Supposedly the journal is a means of communication between everyone, like a cell phone." And she paused as she realized she had no idea if where he came from had cell phones. She'd simply made the assumption earlier when talking to Gambit and hadn't thought twice since he didn't look at her like she was crazy. But then, given the situation... "I don't know about that, it sounds crazy to me but then, this whole thing seems crazy. Glass walls and experiments..." She shook her head and wished not for the first time for a truly familiar sight, even if it was an enemy.

His following questions had her brows furrowing slightly as she tilted her head. "No, nothing like that. But he did mention some nonsense about a haunted house. Have you come across one too?" Maybe the people here were crazy. That would call into question everything she'd been told thus far, not that she was taking the mortal's word as solid fact. The vampire was through doing that with anyone.

"Like a cell phone?" He lifted his eyebrows, his interest and curiosity piqued with that one. And one of his hands was lowering to rummage around in that box, before he found it and he crouched to set the whole thing on the ground and balance the book on his knee, removing the pen and taking off the little rubber strap that kept it closed, so he could look through some of the pages. "Well, look at that--" People were talking back and forth and his mouth was curling up. "That's fantastic, it's--" But then he stopped short, falling immediately silent as his eyes landed on something foreign, something amazing. Something no one would have been able to read, nor write. No one but another Time Lord.

He stared for a few long heartbeats before he wrote something down and stared at the page, willing the book to write back, to answer his question. After a full minute, nothing happened, and he was snapping it shut and tucking it away into one of his pockets, he'd keep looking back, every few minutes. Even though that book.. was semi-large.. it still fit so nearly into his small hand-pocket, in that leather jacket. Time Lord technology.. the pockets were bigger on the inside.

"Yes," He answered finally, good cheer returned, "I ran into a woman, who seemed rather nice and helpful at first, really.." He turned to look behind him, to see if she was still within seeing distance.. but of course, she wasn't. "But then I told her who I was and she called me a clone, and said there was something wrong with my face.." He frowned a touch then, clearly not understanding -- and the Doctor hated being confused. However, news of a haunted house caught his attention. "Really?" He prompted. Ghosts and spirits. Not really.. they were all aliens. The whole lot of them. Like the-- oh, now wasn't the time for that. "That's interesting.."

But then he was looking back towards that large building curiously for a moment, before smiling back at her once again. "You're not human, are you?" He prompted with a smile, eyebrows lifting up. Of course, he wasn't one to talk. She'd be able to hear it, the beating of two hearts coming from his chest. Definitely something wrong there.

The vampire watched closely, tilting her head a little to better see. Huh. The mortal hadn't been talking crazy. She refrained from pulling out her own little book, not particularly interested in reading anything from anyone unless it spoke of a way out. What she was interested in was trying to figure him out, particularly as she watched his reactions to skimming through the pages. Had he come across something or someone familiar? It seemed that way but she didn't know and she wasn't going to ask, and he seemed through with the book by then.

"A clone?" It was her turn to be interested. Cloning, that was like what the coven's company did to create their blood. Perhaps there was some sort of technologically advanced building around. She really would have to explore more thoroughly. If there was even a simple blood bank it would make things so much easier for her. True, Gambit had said there was no electricity, but he could have been lying. It was the kind of thing she might lie about, if she didn't want anyone else trying to get in on it.

Selene didn't have a chance to debate on telling him her plans for exploring the house when he flatly called her out. She simply stared at him a moment, then cocked her head again, pressing her lips together briefly. "No. But neither are you." She would tell her secret if he shared his. At least she somewhat trusted him, unlike... unlike the mortal that she'd so easily given her secret to. What the hell was wrong with her? Her entire world changed in the matter of a few nights -- not counting this strange mess -- and suddenly she was trusting humans just because they gave her kindness. She needed to get her act together before someone tried to kill her the way humans always did.

"Yeah, clones." He smiled more and shook his head. Really, it was brilliant. This certainly wasn't Earth. He'd seen cloning before, of course.. but it wasn't human technology. Not for another two thousand years. Still, he was picking back up that box and standing again, tucking it under his arm where he'd been holding it before, those blue eyes finding her darker set an instant later. She's called him out the same way he had, and he couldn't held the smile that blossomed over his face.

"No. I'm not." But he wasn't about to tell her exactly who he was, or what he was, not yet. Not after he'd seen that writing in the book. There was another Time Lord here. Another Time Lord. The idea made his spine tingle some, and in the back of his mind, he knew it was impossible.. then again, he'd thought a living Dalek was impossible, too.. and there'd been an entire army of them. A million Daleks. If a million Daleks could survive, then surely one Time Lord could. It was almost too much to hope for.

The vampire stared a bit longer, waiting for him to say something more. When he didn't she merely sighed to herself. Fine. At least she could tell he wasn't lycan or vampire, and as far as she was concerned those were bigger worries than whatever he was. Then a thought came to her. "That woman, was she human?" Although really, how many non-humans could there be? Ignoring she knew of nothing outside her own kind and the lycans. And Michael. "Something is definitely not right here." Kind of stating the obvious, but she couldn't help it. "The man I met just a little while ago, his eyes were like none I'd ever seen before, but he otherwise... smelled human." Just saying Gambit seemed human implied he might not be, and Selene was certain that he was. Or at least was mortal, which was good enough for her. The Doctor? He, she was betting, was something closer to what she was. A wolf in sheep's clothing.

More like.. a llama in sheep's clothing. Oh, the Time Lords could be dark, evil people.. but for the most part, they were good, kind people who wanted to help. To save. And luckily, this Time Lord wasn't one of the few, but rather, he was one of the many... even if he was a little reckless and fool-hardy, sometimes. He had, after all, stolen a TARDIS and taken off.

"The woman? Yes, I'm sure she was. Humanish, anyway." He smiled over at Selene and nodded his head in agreement with her statement. This place was definitely not right. Something was very wrong. "What do you mean his eyes weren't like something you'd seen? What were they like?" Now, that was something interesting.. there were non-humans here, mixed with humans? Sure, he knew this woman, Selene, wasn't human.. but the blonde woman had been. And it was rare to find them together, mixed like this. He was eager to find out whatever he could. "And tell me more about this glass wall." He was really talking to the wrong girl.

This was becoming more complicated by the moment. If vampires could get headaches she expected to have one any minute. "They were black and red. A bit... demonish looking, I suppose. Didn't quite fit in with the rest of him." She almost said Gambit seemed harmless but she knew better than to make those kinds of assumptions. While she might trust him to show her around, she wouldn't trust him at her back. Not yet, anyway. The Doctor already had that trust, and at the moment, one was enough. "But I'd wager he's human. At least more than you or I." The last said partially because the beating of his heart was starting to get to her. Or hearts, rather. "I don't really know anything about the wall other than it's supposedly unbreakable, but I'll show you what of it I've seen if you tell me why two hearts beat in your chest." She arched a brow expectantly, but the look on her face and her tone said she would show him regardless. The information would just be nice. Part of her wondered if two hearts meant more blood than normal.

"Demonish?" Oh, now that was interesting, and his eyebrows lifted. He could only think of one planet that had people with black and red eyes.. but they didn't look humanish at all. Definitely not. And if she was wagering that he was human.. well. That didn't leave very many options open. He'd want to get a look at that man himself.

Though, when she prompted him about his hearts, he broke into another grin. "You can hear that?" She was fantastic. And he was trying to put together the information he had about her (which wasn't much) to determine her species. He'd already ruled out vampire, because she was standing here in the sunlight.

"Two hearts beat in my chest because I was born with two, much the same way you were born with your one. Does the wall circle the entire town, all the way up? Was it thick?" He was already looking around again. As if that would help him see it.

Either he was slightly crazy, or he had the best attitude Selene had ever known a person to have. It was a little unnerving, but then, just thinking about smiling or laughing was enough to make her feel off. She couldn't remember the last time she laughed. Surely at least once since she was turned... maybe.

She just stared at him for a minute or two, then let out a harsh exhale that was almost a growl. "I could have guessed at that." Another long look and she was turning on one heel, gesturing with a hand to follow as she started back the way she had come with Gambit, back to the wall. "I was told it circles the town and runs a bit into the ground but I haven't had a chance to see all that for myself. Supposedly the weather is rather wild as well and varies starkly from day to day, although how that could possibly work if the glass creates a lid as well I have no idea." Not that the weather would bother her. Personally she was hoping for snow. "Do you have two of everything or simply two hearts?"

Maybe it was a little bit of both. You didn't live as long as he had and not be a little crazy-- just look at her 'father'. He was the case and point for living too long. But the Doctor had been through much, much more. He'd had a very hard time. Losing your entire family, your entire species, your entire planet. Everything you'd ever known. All gone. Because of you.

The Doctor thought about it constantly. Every moment of every day since it'd happened. But sometimes he could manage to push it to the back of his mind. Sometimes. Especially for something new, or something good-- even something bad. And he cherished those moments, waited every day for something to come to the front of his mind and push all the guilt to the back.

"Into the sky and into the ground?" That was clever. It was good. He would have hated to have been captured and contained by people that would overlook something that basic. It was a strange outlook to have, but he was a strange man. "Two hearts, two kidneys. But not everything works quite the same."

"Apparently." She shrugged her shoulders lightly as she walked, not bothering to glance back at him since she could tell from the sound of his voice he was walking along with her. That and the sound of his heartbeat. It was a good thing her sense of smell was heightened otherwise she'd have a hell of a time telling the sound of him apart from a small group. "I wonder if anyone's actually dug to find out or just made the assumption." She could see how a simple human might. Digging was hard work. Hadn't Gambit mentioned something about a clock tower? She definitely needed to climb up there and see what could be seen. It would give her a better idea of things than mapping it all out on the ground. "Is that rare where you come from, two hearts?"

"I'm not sure, but once we get another person to talk to, we'll try and figure this whole thing out." He was, of course, following behind her, where ever she was going to lead him. She could be leading him anywhere, but he was sure he could take care of himself if something happened.

"Where I come from, everyone has two hearts. Just like where you come from, everyone has one. It's normal. Just part of our physiology." He smiled over at her, but then looked forward again. He certainly was in a good mood.. but it was either one or the other with this Doctor, he went from one extreme to the other so easily. It was only natural, going through what he'd just gone through.

After about ten minutes or so (she tended to walk a rather brisk pace, especially now that everything was amped up after drinking the Corvinus blood) they were into the forest and the glass wall was in view. She doubted she needed to gesture toward it, and instead turned her gaze to him, her steps slowing as they came near the wall. "Since the forest is supposed to go all the way around the inside of this place --" she couldn't bring herself to call it a box, "-- it's probably a fair guess to say it does the same on the outside. Which would mean even if we could get out we'd still be in the middle of nowhere." Something she would be perfectly okay with if only for the whole being trapped thing. "I don't know if it'd make me feel better to see people on the other side or not." Probably not, but the glass wall was a bit eerie and she preferred talking to silence at the moment.

The Doctor had been strolling quickly after her, glancing at the trees around him, but he slowed as soon as that glass wall came into view and he tilted his head back to look up, but how high it went was impossible to tell, thanks to all the trees in the way, pressing up against that wall. He was lifting a hand and moving it out to press into the glass, looking over the glass between his fingers, then around his hands.

After a moment, he pulled his hand away and turned around to look at the trees, stepping away from that wall and touching at the bark of one of the trees, then he tugged one leaf off and rubbed it between his fingers before lifting it to his nose and sniffing it. Then he licked it. Hm. The leaf was dropped back to the ground. "This isn't Earth." There wasn't any way some of these trees could grow here on Earth, they needed special soil, special nutrients.
