Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:!complete, day 15, location: gym, selene, the doctor (nine)

Who:  The Ninth Doctor and Selene
What: The Doctor is still trying to find out what's going on..
Where: Moving from the Post Office to the Gym
When: 12:30PM, Day 15
Rating: PG-13
Status: Compelte

After that unfortunately abrupt, brief interaction with the pretty young woman who seemed to think he was a clone (really, a clone?) the Doctor had focused blue eyes onto the gym across the way and was once again looking down at the strange little box of 'goodies' he'd been left. Really, he was quite thankful that he'd run into the nutter when he had.. she hadn't reacted well to his calling himself The Doctor at all. Sometimes it was like that.. sometimes he'd been places that he didn't remember being, and met people he didn't remember meeting, because he hadn't been there yet. And really, if he'd announced that he was The Doctor in front of a group full of people.. and they had reacted the way she had? Well, he didn't want to become public enemy number one in this little town he knew nothing of. He already held that title in other places and wasn't very proud of it. Well. Okay, maybe sometimes he was. But only when he gave into that little urge twitching at the back of his mind.

From now on, he'd be John Smith.

And once he'd decided that, John Smith was calmly making his way across the dirty, dusty road and towards the large structure across from the post office. The girl had seemed amiable enough before he'd given himself a designation.. so maybe the rest of the people would be just as nice to John Smith as she had been to the nameless man with the box.

Selene didn't like the sense of this place. Not because it was a little dated -- she sometimes preferred old to new, actually -- but it had a certain feel about it. It made the vampire uncomfortable. Once she parted ways with the young mortal she decided she would do a brief survey of what there was of this town and then head off to find the so-called haunted house. She didn't believe in things like spirits and ghosts so she wasn't the slightest bit concerned about that. The way she saw it, if such talk kept everyone away from the house it would be a perfect place for her to stay. But she wasn't above lingering out in the forest. Staying in a gymnasium with a bunch of humans? That was one of the last places she wanted to be, whether she was pretending to be human or not.

The man -- if he was only twenty-something he was really more like a boy -- had said something about a pharmacy, so that was what the vampire was on the lookout for. Not for any drugs, mind you. She was hoping to find some syringes or vials, bottles even. Anything that might prove useful once she found a food source. No electricity meant no coolers, true, but if there was water she might be able to come up with something. The bottle of water was heavy in her coat and she almost wanted to get rid of it, along with the rest, but figured just because they were things she wouldn't use didn't mean someone else wouldn't want them.

She hadn't gone far when she picked up on a fresh scent, but a vaguely familiar one. Not the blood scent of the one she had just spent however long talking with. It made her pause and glance around, finally spotting someone coming her way. That she recognized the scent was what threw her off. The only other person she'd come across since her rude awakening was... "The Doctor?"

Well, the Doctor wasn't quite sure where to go from here. And the best thing to do when you didn't know what to do? Use a tried and true practice. He'd simply go into the gym, where he could hear people prattling on, and ask them exactly what was going on in this place. It usually worked for him. Act like a stupid tourist and people would tell you anything! Well, except that one time they'd laughed at him when he'd asked about something falling from the sky.. that had been a cock-up and a strange situation in and of itself, one he wasn't planning on ending back up in any time soon. Instead, he'd ended up here. Only problem was, he wasn't quite sure where 'here' was. Which, of course, brought him back to his original idea: Ask the locals. And really, he'd been taking those first steps forward towards the museum when he'd heard that voice-- that familiar voice. And he spun around to lift blue eyes onto the dark-haired, dark-eyed, pale skinned woman, and he looked confused for almost a moment before a smile broke out on his face.

"Selene!" He greeted in an excited tone, retracing his steps to walk back to her and open out one of his arms, while the other kept his box neatly labeled 'Vas Captio' tucked under his arm. He didn't know what anything inside the box was for.. but he wasn't about to give it up, either. Maybe Selene, with her Cajun-given knowledge, would be willing to help him out? Perhaps not.. after all, could she really trust the red-head? "You're alright! Fantastic. You see, I told you that you would be." He smiled wider then and his hand came out to grasp her shoulder briefly before releasing it, his way of showing her that he was indeed pleased that she'd come out of their mess A-Okay. "No problems, then? No injuries?" He was looking her up and down, though it wasn't in the same way the younger red-head had been. He was looking for tell-tale signs of injury. Didn't look like she had anything broken, at least. And blue eyes lifted again.

"Nothing to worry about." He reassured her again before looking around them, then back to her. "Is there anything you can tell me about this place?" Was she from here? Did she know what was going on? He would like some answers, please.

She knew her guess was right by the way he quickly turned around and it was a small relief to see someone she knew. Well, obviously she didn't really know him, and they hadn't been able to actually see each other before, but she already had a bit of trust in him. Being trapped and put in a perilous situation had a way of creating such bonds.

As he walked over she surveyed him the same as he would do to her, noting how his shoes were singed. She felt a little bad about that, but only for a moment. She also noted that he looked perfectly human. Instinct, however, was telling her that was only part of the story, but considering the only other person she'd met thus far was questionably human she was starting to consider that she should hold that assumption about everyone she came across until convinced otherwise. His attitude and clear concern for her had a small reassuring smile curving her lips. "Yes, I'm alright. You? I see your shoes suffered a bit from the fire." But clothing items were far more replaceable than people.

When he asked her about what she knew she sighed lightly and wondered how crazy he would think her. "Apparently there's a small number of people trapped in this place, some poor excuse for a town surrounded by glass walls. While I've only come across one other person so far, I can vouch for the glass. I've certainly never seen anything like it before." She wondered if he had.

He smiled wider when she smiled and he lifted his eyebrows quickly, then looked down at his shoes when she mentioned them, wiggling his toes in them just a bit. "Ah, yes. Well. Shoes are easily replaceable." Maybe not in this place, however.. he was lifting his head to look around again, before he once again focused his attention completely upon her. She really was quite nice to look at, after all, and she seemed quite intelligent. Perhaps she didn't belong in this place? The way she answered his question made him think not.

"Glass? Really?" He looked up then, before looking around once more. "A town in a glass jar.. original." And he really meant that. He'd never been in a giant glass jar. But it'd be no problem to get out, he was sure, and his smile quickly returned. However, he then remembered the box under his arm and he was bringing it out and lifting it to show her. "When I woke up after our little get together, I found this." He flipped it open and held it out to show her the contents. "Do you know anything about it?" The Doctor and all of his questions. "You've spoken to a local then, have you? And they didn't call you a clone or act like a nutter?" Maybe it'd just been that one girl.. maybe.

It made her feel better that she wasn't the only one who thought the glass was a bit ridiculous. But she supposed if someone was stuck there for awhile they would get used to it. She had no intention of being there that long, not if she could help it. Her eyes went to the box when he pulled it out and she nodded slightly, pulling aside one fold of her coat to show where she'd stowed her items away. "It seems to be what everyone's given. Supposedly the journal is a means of communication between everyone, like a cell phone." And she paused as she realized she had no idea if where he came from had cell phones. She'd simply made the assumption earlier when talking to Gambit and hadn't thought twice since he didn't look at her like she was crazy. But then, given the situation... "I don't know about that, it sounds crazy to me but then, this whole thing seems crazy. Glass walls and experiments..." She shook her head and wished not for the first time for a truly familiar sight, even if it was an enemy.

His following questions had her brows furrowing slightly as she tilted her head. "No, nothing like that. But he did mention some nonsense about a haunted house. Have you come across one too?" Maybe the people here were crazy. That would call into question everything she'd been told thus far, not that she was taking the mortal's word as solid fact. The vampire was through doing that with anyone.

"Like a cell phone?" He lifted his eyebrows, his interest and curiosity piqued with that one. And one of his hands was lowering to rummage around in that box, before he found it and he crouched to set the whole thing on the ground and balance the book on his knee, removing the pen and taking off the little rubber strap that kept it closed, so he could look through some of the pages. "Well, look at that--" People were talking back and forth and his mouth was curling up. "That's fantastic, it's--" But then he stopped short, falling immediately silent as his eyes landed on something foreign, something amazing. Something no one would have been able to read, nor write. No one but another Time Lord.

He stared for a few long heartbeats before he wrote something down and stared at the page, willing the book to write back, to answer his question. After a full minute, nothing happened, and he was snapping it shut and tucking it away into one of his pockets, he'd keep looking back, every few minutes. Even though that book.. was semi-large.. it still fit so nearly into his small hand-pocket, in that leather jacket. Time Lord technology.. the pockets were bigger on the inside.

"Yes," He answered finally, good cheer returned, "I ran into a woman, who seemed rather nice and helpful at first, really.." He turned to look behind him, to see if she was still within seeing distance.. but of course, she wasn't. "But then I told her who I was and she called me a clone, and said there was something wrong with my face.." He frowned a touch then, clearly not understanding -- and the Doctor hated being confused. However, news of a haunted house caught his attention. "Really?" He prompted. Ghosts and spirits. Not really.. they were all aliens. The whole lot of them. Like the-- oh, now wasn't the time for that. "That's interesting.."

But then he was looking back towards that large building curiously for a moment, before smiling back at her once again. "You're not human, are you?" He prompted with a smile, eyebrows lifting up. Of course, he wasn't one to talk. She'd be able to hear it, the beating of two hearts coming from his chest. Definitely something wrong there.

The vampire watched closely, tilting her head a little to better see. Huh. The mortal hadn't been talking crazy. She refrained from pulling out her own little book, not particularly interested in reading anything from anyone unless it spoke of a way out. What she was interested in was trying to figure him out, particularly as she watched his reactions to skimming through the pages. Had he come across something or someone familiar? It seemed that way but she didn't know and she wasn't going to ask, and he seemed through with the book by then.

"A clone?" It was her turn to be interested. Cloning, that was like what the coven's company did to create their blood. Perhaps there was some sort of technologically advanced building around. She really would have to explore more thoroughly. If there was even a simple blood bank it would make things so much easier for her. True, Gambit had said there was no electricity, but he could have been lying. It was the kind of thing she might lie about, if she didn't want anyone else trying to get in on it.

Selene didn't have a chance to debate on telling him her plans for exploring the house when he flatly called her out. She simply stared at him a moment, then cocked her head again, pressing her lips together briefly. "No. But neither are you." She would tell her secret if he shared his. At least she somewhat trusted him, unlike... unlike the mortal that she'd so easily given her secret to. What the hell was wrong with her? Her entire world changed in the matter of a few nights -- not counting this strange mess -- and suddenly she was trusting humans just because they gave her kindness. She needed to get her act together before someone tried to kill her the way humans always did.

"Yeah, clones." He smiled more and shook his head. Really, it was brilliant. This certainly wasn't Earth. He'd seen cloning before, of course.. but it wasn't human technology. Not for another two thousand years. Still, he was picking back up that box and standing again, tucking it under his arm where he'd been holding it before, those blue eyes finding her darker set an instant later. She's called him out the same way he had, and he couldn't held the smile that blossomed over his face.

"No. I'm not." But he wasn't about to tell her exactly who he was, or what he was, not yet. Not after he'd seen that writing in the book. There was another Time Lord here. Another Time Lord. The idea made his spine tingle some, and in the back of his mind, he knew it was impossible.. then again, he'd thought a living Dalek was impossible, too.. and there'd been an entire army of them. A million Daleks. If a million Daleks could survive, then surely one Time Lord could. It was almost too much to hope for.

The vampire stared a bit longer, waiting for him to say something more. When he didn't she merely sighed to herself. Fine. At least she could tell he wasn't lycan or vampire, and as far as she was concerned those were bigger worries than whatever he was. Then a thought came to her. "That woman, was she human?" Although really, how many non-humans could there be? Ignoring she knew of nothing outside her own kind and the lycans. And Michael. "Something is definitely not right here." Kind of stating the obvious, but she couldn't help it. "The man I met just a little while ago, his eyes were like none I'd ever seen before, but he otherwise... smelled human." Just saying Gambit seemed human implied he might not be, and Selene was certain that he was. Or at least was mortal, which was good enough for her. The Doctor? He, she was betting, was something closer to what she was. A wolf in sheep's clothing.

More like.. a llama in sheep's clothing. Oh, the Time Lords could be dark, evil people.. but for the most part, they were good, kind people who wanted to help. To save. And luckily, this Time Lord wasn't one of the few, but rather, he was one of the many... even if he was a little reckless and fool-hardy, sometimes. He had, after all, stolen a TARDIS and taken off.

"The woman? Yes, I'm sure she was. Humanish, anyway." He smiled over at Selene and nodded his head in agreement with her statement. This place was definitely not right. Something was very wrong. "What do you mean his eyes weren't like something you'd seen? What were they like?" Now, that was something interesting.. there were non-humans here, mixed with humans? Sure, he knew this woman, Selene, wasn't human.. but the blonde woman had been. And it was rare to find them together, mixed like this. He was eager to find out whatever he could. "And tell me more about this glass wall." He was really talking to the wrong girl.

This was becoming more complicated by the moment. If vampires could get headaches she expected to have one any minute. "They were black and red. A bit... demonish looking, I suppose. Didn't quite fit in with the rest of him." She almost said Gambit seemed harmless but she knew better than to make those kinds of assumptions. While she might trust him to show her around, she wouldn't trust him at her back. Not yet, anyway. The Doctor already had that trust, and at the moment, one was enough. "But I'd wager he's human. At least more than you or I." The last said partially because the beating of his heart was starting to get to her. Or hearts, rather. "I don't really know anything about the wall other than it's supposedly unbreakable, but I'll show you what of it I've seen if you tell me why two hearts beat in your chest." She arched a brow expectantly, but the look on her face and her tone said she would show him regardless. The information would just be nice. Part of her wondered if two hearts meant more blood than normal.

"Demonish?" Oh, now that was interesting, and his eyebrows lifted. He could only think of one planet that had people with black and red eyes.. but they didn't look humanish at all. Definitely not. And if she was wagering that he was human.. well. That didn't leave very many options open. He'd want to get a look at that man himself.

Though, when she prompted him about his hearts, he broke into another grin. "You can hear that?" She was fantastic. And he was trying to put together the information he had about her (which wasn't much) to determine her species. He'd already ruled out vampire, because she was standing here in the sunlight.

"Two hearts beat in my chest because I was born with two, much the same way you were born with your one. Does the wall circle the entire town, all the way up? Was it thick?" He was already looking around again. As if that would help him see it.

Either he was slightly crazy, or he had the best attitude Selene had ever known a person to have. It was a little unnerving, but then, just thinking about smiling or laughing was enough to make her feel off. She couldn't remember the last time she laughed. Surely at least once since she was turned... maybe.

She just stared at him for a minute or two, then let out a harsh exhale that was almost a growl. "I could have guessed at that." Another long look and she was turning on one heel, gesturing with a hand to follow as she started back the way she had come with Gambit, back to the wall. "I was told it circles the town and runs a bit into the ground but I haven't had a chance to see all that for myself. Supposedly the weather is rather wild as well and varies starkly from day to day, although how that could possibly work if the glass creates a lid as well I have no idea." Not that the weather would bother her. Personally she was hoping for snow. "Do you have two of everything or simply two hearts?"

Maybe it was a little bit of both. You didn't live as long as he had and not be a little crazy-- just look at her 'father'. He was the case and point for living too long. But the Doctor had been through much, much more. He'd had a very hard time. Losing your entire family, your entire species, your entire planet. Everything you'd ever known. All gone. Because of you.

The Doctor thought about it constantly. Every moment of every day since it'd happened. But sometimes he could manage to push it to the back of his mind. Sometimes. Especially for something new, or something good-- even something bad. And he cherished those moments, waited every day for something to come to the front of his mind and push all the guilt to the back.

"Into the sky and into the ground?" That was clever. It was good. He would have hated to have been captured and contained by people that would overlook something that basic. It was a strange outlook to have, but he was a strange man. "Two hearts, two kidneys. But not everything works quite the same."

"Apparently." She shrugged her shoulders lightly as she walked, not bothering to glance back at him since she could tell from the sound of his voice he was walking along with her. That and the sound of his heartbeat. It was a good thing her sense of smell was heightened otherwise she'd have a hell of a time telling the sound of him apart from a small group. "I wonder if anyone's actually dug to find out or just made the assumption." She could see how a simple human might. Digging was hard work. Hadn't Gambit mentioned something about a clock tower? She definitely needed to climb up there and see what could be seen. It would give her a better idea of things than mapping it all out on the ground. "Is that rare where you come from, two hearts?"

"I'm not sure, but once we get another person to talk to, we'll try and figure this whole thing out." He was, of course, following behind her, where ever she was going to lead him. She could be leading him anywhere, but he was sure he could take care of himself if something happened.

"Where I come from, everyone has two hearts. Just like where you come from, everyone has one. It's normal. Just part of our physiology." He smiled over at her, but then looked forward again. He certainly was in a good mood.. but it was either one or the other with this Doctor, he went from one extreme to the other so easily. It was only natural, going through what he'd just gone through.

After about ten minutes or so (she tended to walk a rather brisk pace, especially now that everything was amped up after drinking the Corvinus blood) they were into the forest and the glass wall was in view. She doubted she needed to gesture toward it, and instead turned her gaze to him, her steps slowing as they came near the wall. "Since the forest is supposed to go all the way around the inside of this place --" she couldn't bring herself to call it a box, "-- it's probably a fair guess to say it does the same on the outside. Which would mean even if we could get out we'd still be in the middle of nowhere." Something she would be perfectly okay with if only for the whole being trapped thing. "I don't know if it'd make me feel better to see people on the other side or not." Probably not, but the glass wall was a bit eerie and she preferred talking to silence at the moment.

The Doctor had been strolling quickly after her, glancing at the trees around him, but he slowed as soon as that glass wall came into view and he tilted his head back to look up, but how high it went was impossible to tell, thanks to all the trees in the way, pressing up against that wall. He was lifting a hand and moving it out to press into the glass, looking over the glass between his fingers, then around his hands.

After a moment, he pulled his hand away and turned around to look at the trees, stepping away from that wall and touching at the bark of one of the trees, then he tugged one leaf off and rubbed it between his fingers before lifting it to his nose and sniffing it. Then he licked it. Hm. The leaf was dropped back to the ground. "This isn't Earth." There wasn't any way some of these trees could grow here on Earth, they needed special soil, special nutrients.

He was quiet, so she did her best to quiet herself, crossing her arms loosely across her chest while she looked around. It was both to get a better view of things than she had before when with Gambit and to keep an eye out. Wouldn't do to have something or someone sneaking up on them while they were near a damned wall. She kind of doubted much of anything could get the drop on the both of them. Even if not true it was a comforting thought, and the vampire was otherwise lacking those at the moment.

As he moved her gaze returned to him, watching him closely. None of what he did was particularly odd to her, but that could have been because of some of her own tracking techniques. Confusing lycans for wolves and vice versa could get a vampire killed, easily.

"What do you mean this isn't Earth?" Both brows raised as she looked at him, and really, should anything surprise her the way this day was going? Seriously. She was actually going to start missing the lycans at this rate. "Where the hell else could this be?"

"I mean, this isn't Earth." He replied as plainly as he could manage, his body twisting again so he could face her and nod back at the tree behind him. "That tree is from Klum. It can only grow on Klum. Endangered species, actually.." He turned again to look at it, inspecting it's rough, almost patterned bark, it's abruptly triangular leaves, and the roots that seemed to curly-q into the ground. Then the Doctor was turning again to regard Selene. He nearly felt bad for this girl, getting taken here from.. well, apparently from Earth, and tossed here like this, somewhere clearly not Earth. But she wasn't human.. and she seemed to have known no other home than Earth, else why would she be so surprised when he said it wasn't Earth? Curious.

"It could be lots of places. Other planets, other moons, solar systems far beyond what Earth has ever seen before.. the Universe is a big place, Selene. We could be anywhere." He lifted his eyebrows and smiled at her. "Anywhere." He reiterated calmly.

The vampire tried to digest what he was telling her even as a voice in the back of her head was trying to tell her this was all some hallucination or strange memory from Corvinus. It had to be. "So you're telling me that not only are we stuck in a glass prison, with others that may or may not be human, but this place isn't even on Earth. Because apparently that kind of nonsense is possible." She looked at him a moment, as if waiting for confirmation, then pushed both hands through her hair with what bordered on a frustrated growl. "Fucking hell. Just... fuck!" Selene was at her limit and finally had to lash out, kicking the wall soundly as she cursed with a force that would have easily shattered a mortal's bones but she didn't so much as flinch. Unsurprisingly the wall didn't give in the slightest. It didn't really make her feel all that better either. She needed to kill something. Blood and violence, that always smoothed over a bad mood. At this point it certainly couldn't hurt.

"Now now, no need to get upset. I told you we'd be fine, didn't I? That little stunt with the fire in that room? This is just like that. We only have to find a way out. It sounds like it's some sort of game..." And as he said that, his voice trailed off, and he quickly tugged the little book out of his pocket and flipped it open again, to write down a few things, then a brilliant smile came over his face. Go ahead, Selene, you should ask.

He wrote a few more things, pausing a few seconds as if to wait for a reply, before writing again. Then he was looking up at Selene once more. "We're going to get out of here." That was said with a bit more of a serious tone. "You've got nothing to be concerned with. We'll stick together and we'll be right. We have to go back into town." He was snapping his journal shut then, and turning around to head back through the forest, back the direction they'd come from.

"I don't play games." said with a harshness that was clearly not directed at him, as she was busy glaring at the glass. If she wanted to keep up a mortal facade she was really going to need to keep her temper in check, as her eyes had begun to brighten that way they did in such instances. Another frustrated noise and a slap of her hand against the wall and she was turning her attention back to him, confusion momentarily softening her features. "What is it?"

Selene didn't hesitate to start walking when he did, easily falling into step beside him. He had a plan, or was at least coming up with one. That was the distinct feeling she was getting. Which was good because she didn't have a damn clue and as it was the vampire was pretty close to reverting to tried and true survival tactics. She also had no complaint about sticking together, although clearly she would have to slip away from time to time to tend to her need to feed. The thought brought a new question to her. Gambit had mentioned there were deer, and probably other small wildlife. But if this wasn't Earth then there was no telling just what the wildlife was like, and if it was anything like what she was used to. Which meant drinking from anything was potentially dangerous. "Fuck..." she muttered to herself, glancing into the trees as they walked, partly to look for signs of life. This really did become more complicated by the moment. And she had thought things were getting complicated when she was trying to take down Marcus.

"What is what?" He asked, looking over at her, then: "Oh! Yes! Look--" He turned the book to show her the two sets of handwriting that looked.. well.. nearly identical, just small differences. Enough to tell them apart, anyway. "That?" He pointed to one set of handwriting. "That's me, writing in this book." Then he pointed to the other set of handwriting. "And that's me writing in this book, too. But it's not me." And poor Selene wouldn't get any more explanation than that. Not right now. She was just going to get more and more confused around the Doctor.

Everyone did. It was a side-effect.

"Remember, it's going to be fine, don't get worked up. If we're stuck here and this is a game, then that's what they want from us. If we give them what they want, we're entertainment. If we don't, we're boring and maybe we'll get a chance to see what's behind Door Number One." He flashed another smile back at her as they began to make their way out of the darkened forest.

When he showed her the book she cocked her head to the side, her heightened sight easily telling the difference between the sets of handwriting. Her senses were going to come in handy around this place. Provided they weren't being stolen away half the time. Being blind had shaken her, more so because of the fire. Her brows furrowed as he 'explained' what he was showing her and after a moment she merely shook her head. "I'm not even going to ask. I'm confused enough as it is." Well, she would ask, at some point. When she couldn't take the curiosity or confusion anymore. The vampire tended to poke and prod and demand until she got answers.

"Boring? I don't really think that's possible. Well, perhaps for the humans." She really needed to quit saying things like that if she wanted to blend in. Or perhaps she shouldn't even bother. "So are we off to see this other you or do you already have some brilliant plan for escaping this place?" The latter would be too easy and she knew it.

"Oh, I've got plenty of brilliant plans for escaping this place. But I think I need to talk to me before I do anything, though. I think I might have already tried half the things I'm thinking of, and there's no use in repeating." This man was nutters.. or completely brilliant. Maybe a little of both. "So we're definitely off to see this other me. John Smith." That last part was really said to no one in particular.

"You know, if you're going to try to blend in with the humans," He began with a smile. "You probably should stop calling them 'humans'." The Doctor had done that several times, made that mistake with humans, calling them 'you lot' or 'stupid apes' or 'humans'. It tended to give away the fact that he, well.. wasn't one of them. They stepped out of the forest and back onto the road, and the Doctor looked up at the sky, then back around the town.

The vampire cracked a small smile when he more or less voiced her thoughts. That and the sight of his was a little infectious. It probably helped that he was perfectly calm and in control of himself. Selene knew vampires that couldn't even manage that. "I'll have to work on it. Habit." She noticed him glance at the sky but refrained herself. The warmth of the sun was quite easy for her to feel and as it was she kept wanting to glance at her skin, make sure she wasn't burning and just couldn't feel it. That kind of behavior would definitely give her away. "Does this other you look like you as well?"

"No." He assured her, his face twisting some into a proper, displeased frown, and he shook his head. "He looks funny." So said the man with the large ears and nose, and that big, goofy grin. Which, in fact, he broke into as soon as he'd voiced his opinion about the 'Other Him'. Strange man.

"You know." He observed after a moment, taking his journal out to flip through it again, shaking his head some as he did. "There has to be something that's useful in-- aah." He had come across the recently drawn map, and was turning his journal to the side so he could look at it properly. "A map." He came a step closer to her so that she could see it also, and he raised his eyebrows some at the man labeled 'Jack' in the museum -- why was it all written in French? Then he noticed 'Le Docteur' who was saying that he was clever, and it made him smile wider, shaking his head. The barn, okay, that was where he had to end up. "It's like having our own personal tour guide."

"Good. I don't think I could handle trying to tell apart twins." She was glancing around, staying attentive to their surroundings, when he began flipping through the journal, only really drawing her attention when he moved so she could look as well. It was a crudely drawn map, obviously, but the French drew her attention. "I wonder... the man I spoke with earlier, he mentioned something about drawing up a map of the place recently. His speech was peppered with French, it'd make sense why the drawing would be labeled that way." She tilted her head a little as she took in the map, memorizing it. Sure, she could just look in her little book, but that would take more time than simply recalling details from memory. Looking at the map also made her think of something she hadn't earlier when Gambit had given her a quick rundown of all the buildings. Museums didn't only have paintings and art; perhaps there was an antique blade or two stashed inside. Even if they weren't very sharp it would still be better than nothing, surely better than anything she might find at the carnival.

"I spoke with someone in the journals, spoke some French, this could be his handwriting." He looked it over more closely, then nodded. It looked about right. "Well, we might be here a few days, best to get comfortable, I think, find some place to make a temporary home." Temporary, of course, because his only home was his TARDIS. He wanted it back and he wanted it now. Whoever was running this show had clearly taken not only his TARDIS, but also his.. later TARDIS. The same TARDIS.

"I plan to stop by the barn." He pointed then to the picture on the map. He needed to talk to himself. Gosh, that sounded so strange to say. It had happened twice before, but it was still so surprising.

Selene nodded slightly, making a mental note. Provided he was the only one with dual hearts -- well, he and the other him, which she was still confused about -- she wasn't too worried about being able to find him. "Perhaps I'll meet you over there, then. I want to find the clock tower, get a good view of this place." Her gaze shifted from the journal up to him, and she smiled slightly. "Right now I don't know if I'm up for meeting another you and hearing more business about this place being on another planet."

"Maybe not a planet. Maybe just a moon." He smiled widely at her before closing up his book and tucking it away into his pocket again. "Clock tower, right." The Doctor could understand her wanting to get a good look around, and surely, being at the top of the Clock Tower would certainly do that.

"We'll meet back up." He knew they would in this little town. Especially if they couldn't escape it. "It was good to see you're okay, Selene." He had been a little worried, but he wasn't going to admit it. And with that, he was stepping back, then looking down at his journal again. Maps were useful, though he never.. actually used them. This was novel.

Just a moon could be worse for her, if there were any lycans around. Her smile widened slightly at his last comment, and she felt better that she hadn't been the only one with some concern for the other. "Likewise, Doctor. Stay safe." For once she actually felt confident saying that to someone, as she had no doubt he was more than capable of keeping himself out of harm's way. No, she figured she was more likely to find trouble. Call it a hunch. With a parting nod the vampire started toward the center of the town, and for the clock tower. Part of her was hoping she wouldn't come across anyone else on her way. She wasn't sure how much more strange information she could take, and she didn't really want to come across anyone else not quite human. Not until she had her bearings at least.
