Entry tags:!dropped, !incomplete, day 02, location: carnival, martha jones, open, the doctor (ten)

Day 2 - Early evening
Who: The Doctor and OTA (Even if one person replies, feel free to literally jump right on in there, kay?)
What: Staking out the carnival
When: Day 2, early evening
Where: The Carnival
Rating: PG-13 (just in case someone with foul language shows up)

He'd spent the day in the carnival. Sure, it rained most of the day, but, it wasn't hard to stay dry when you had little stands to duck under, a land of bumper cars, and even a Ferris Wheel to investigate.

"Her name was Lola, she was a show girl," The Doctor sung a bit as he inspected the game booth. The stuffed animals had been outside for a long time, in fact a lot of them looked like they had literally started to deflate. "Awwww... Kind of sad, really," he said to himself, pulling up a seat on an old rusted chair. He wasn't sure how long it would take the rest of the inhabitants to show; in fact, he wasn't quite sure that they would show.

He sat there for a while, feeling fidgety and sort of uncomfortable. It wasn't like the Doctor to be so... inactive. All he wanted to do was find a way out. To get out of the glass, into his TARDIS and back into the world of clanging cloisters and mauve lights. He had work to do. Very important work.

Giving up on the booth the Doctor decided the best place to wait might be at the Ferris Wheel given it's visibility. The rain, it seemed, had subsided a bit, which was a pleasant surprise. Turning one of the Ferris wheel's cars upside down with a loud splash and splatter the Doctor counted the seat as dry enough and settled in to gently rock. Knotting his fingers behind his head the Doctor tried to relax and pretend he was off on holiday at some leisure palace and not currently a prisoner.

There was a pang of guilt for the Gallifreyan when Martha mentioned she couldn't have made it out without Andy. Pursing his lips, the Doctor remembered just how hard he'd been on the faceless entity behind the journal. It's not like he could have known.

Letting the notion of the 'thing' pass, the Doctor sort of let his mind slide on to more convenient topics. "So you haven't replaced me yet?" He teased. "I haven't known quite anyone with such a knack of getting me out of trouble," he said thinking quite pointedly of the Year That Never Was. He learned from that experience never to doubt Martha Jones. She'd amazed him, even if she didn't quite know it.

"Well, the TARDIS was pointed right at the end of the Universe, that's what Mauve means. It's the universal color of distress," he pattered off. "Well, if this isn't the end of the Universe it's chosen a very bad time to kidnap me," He said nodding to her mention that whomever was behind this was quite strong.

"Martha Jones, a Star Trek fan? I never would have guessed it by the looks of you," He nudged her a bit, wincing when he remembered her wounded ankle. "So, Doctor Jones, how long do you think you'll be walking wounded? You know I'll be needing your help as soon as you are able to get us out of here." He was working to formulate a plan. Something that could shatter the glass barrier that was encapsulating them all. It wouldn't do them any good to bang on it, they'd have to find something that could transmit - something like a radio.

Plans just bubbled through the Doctor's head with reckless abandon. "It's good having you back, Martha," he paused to say rather quietly in spite of his mind that was working at a mile a minute.

"Replaced you?" Martha pretended to think for a minute. "Well, there was-" Rolling her eyes Martha couldn't hide her smile. "Nah, not likely."

For a moment Martha just smiled at him, and then nodded. "Well some one has too. You've gotten me out of more trouble then I can count." She let the silence rein for a moment, before opening her eyes wide and jerking slightly with a thought.

"Oh! Where's Donna?" She glanced around. "Or have you not met Donna yet?" She asked frowning. It was hard to tell, not only was the Doctor a Time Traveler, but he could have been snatched from almost any point.

Upon hearing that Mauve was the universal color of distress-Martha raised her eyebrows. Well, at least earth was close. Red was almost Mauve. She stumbled a little when he nudged her, wincing, before straightening. "I am a woman of many things Mr. Smith, I once inspired a great man to write a sonnet about me too." She teased back, trying to hide the slightly embarrassed flush at being caught as a Nerd.

"Oh I don't know, the sprain isn't that bad. My choices are stop walking and let it heal, or find something to make a splint out of, and let it heal that way." She sighed. "Really bad time to sprain my ankle I know. Still, should be about two maybe three days at most, until the sprain is enough that I can walk on it with out limping. Like I said, it's mild." She glanced around the Carnival area. "This place is creepy...like it was put here, all rusted-just for us. Everything here. It's all run down but I found a sheet, in the Thrift Shope, dust free. As if it were only recently put out."

"It's good to be back Doctor." Martha agreed.

The Doctor grinned a bit, listening to her rattle on. He let their adventures rattle through his mind and it made him feel happy in the reminiscing- as if it didn't really matter that they were caught up in the world of glass walls and phantom handwriting. It was for but an instant like they could hop in the TARDIS and go anywhere. Fleeting as it was, the feeling made the Doctor smile.

"Oh, I've met Donna, twice," he said, holding up two fingers with a grin. "We met you, too. You know how the whole episode with the Sontarans turns out, yes?" He didn't want to risk giving her spoilers. He'd grown found of the term from River, actually. Like he was giving away the super secret ending and all.

"Sorry," he said, realizing he probably shouldn't have nudged her, bum ankle and all.

"I'd say whomever has set this all up has gone to quite a bit a trouble," he said wrinkling his nose with a bit of distaste. "Though, they haven't left too many clues as to who they are," he said, thinking of the pouch in his pocket. "Vas Captio, what sort of name is that, anyway?" He chided a bit, trying to be a bit lighter. "They're not alien, though. I can't see any other species giving their little operation a Latin name."

Martha nodded, "Yah, I know. And you also know about the...Hath?" she asked slowly, trying not to mention his...Jenny. Trying not to mention Jenny. "And how that all ended, you know when your ship kidnapped me?" she said with a grin.

"In case I haven't said so...I think Donna is great." Martha said honestly. "Keeps you in line, right and proper."

"S'alright." Martha smiled. "It really isn't that bad."

"It's a bit clieche isn't it? I mean...the litteral translation is 'Vessel prison' or... something very near that." She shook her head. "And why would they force us, Andy and I-Sam and Luna- to try survive." Martha shook her head again.

"Yes, I recall," the Doctor responded to her mention of the Hath. The wound Jenny left had healed surprisingly quickly. She had given him a painful glimpse of possibility - and somehow his mind had decided it was false hope; maybe even fools hope. Just as the Master had led him to believe he needn't be alone in the universe any longer. Unconsciously, the Doctor's brow furrowed. He shook his head and tried to refocus.

"Donna is great - absolutely brilliant. She's really extraordinary," the Doctor chose not to respond to her comment about Donna keeping him in line.

"I don't know, Martha," he started to reply to her question. In a practiced motion he scratched his head, sending his hair splaying out in a million and one directions. "They're playing at something serious, though. I wish I had some other insight beyond that. With a name like vessel capture, it's hard to figure out just what we'll have to do to escape. It's like we're in a cage," he mouth felt soiled even as he said it. "Though, we will escape. It's only a matter of time and ingenuity."

Martha watched him pace around, pulling at his hair. It was almost like old times, and she couldn't help the fond smile tugging at the corner of her mouth. Still, when he got on to the part of being caged, Martha's smile dropped. It made her skin crawl to think that they were trapped, and more so then any one else she'd met so far, the Doctor must be going crazy.

"Well, we'll just have to snoop around, maybe we can dig under the glass...it'd be expensive, and a lot of work to make it go under, all the way. So maybe it only goes a foot or so down..." Biting her bottom lip, she crossed her arms.

"I think that's exactly it though, we are in a cage. Andy and I were stuck in the woods, tied together, and had a mountain lion set after us." Martha frowned, "We barely escaped. That's not normal, and how did they move us with out waking us up?" With a sigh, she looked back at the Doctor.

"Always more questions, and too few answers..."

"Snooping," he said fondly, thinking of all the snoopfilled adventures he'd managed of late. However, there'd been fewer snoops more sly than Martha Jones. It's like she'd been graced with a talent for snooping. The Doctor was hoping that Torchwood never got their hands on her - or they'd have one fine and dandy snoop on their hands.

"Digging?" Truth be told he hadn't thought of that, yet. He'd had his heart set on using something sonic that the practicality of digging seemed beyond him.

"Of course, Martha," he said with a fond smile. She'd become quite good at disecting things, hadn't she? "We need to look at the basics here. That glass is either silicon or titanium bound. It's not going to shatter from any force outside an atomic bomb. As to how you were moved, I haven't quite figured that out yet. Though, I didn't have a tingly feeling in my left toe, so it wasn't transmat."

He pushed his hands deep in his pockets and pulled out his glasses, the only thing he'd had left. Putting them on he tried to force his thick head to thing properly. So far, he was only having moderate success.
