What: Taking a walk into the woods, and Remy goads Logan into a fight. Because let's face it, Logan's going to blow up on someone, might as well be the Cajun, who can hold his own!

The cleaning up of the barn had gone surprisingly well, they'd gotten a fair amount done and Remy had (finally) agreed to actually help them do real work. So he wasn't as injured as he had wanted them to believe, but it didn't mean he wasn't in pain. He certainly was in pain, just not as much as he said. Surprise, the Cajun was a liar. However, once the work of cleaning up the barn had been done, the Cajun had reminded Logan that it might be good for them to look around the surrounding forest for some sort of timber to make some torches, or a few fires to light the town. They didn't, after all, have any electricity at the moment and thus they had no light after dark. And that meant, of course, that once they got into the forest, even while the sun was still just barely up, it would be relatively dark for the pair. That had never really been a problem for Logan, Remy knew.. and it wasn't much of a problem for him, either.

So, after letting the others know where they were going, the two mutants were headed into the forest alone.. and once they were far enough away from the barn, the Cajun was speaking up. "You t'ink you helpin' 'dese people, Logan? Non. You gon' hur' someone, 'cause you can' get your temper un'er control. You gon' blow up at someone an' kill 'dem, you ain' careful. You take me on, non? Get out somea'dat energy out." Of course.. Logan fighting with anyone, especially the cheeky, injured Cajun wasn't a good idea. Sure, he could do some flips, as he'd demonstrated.. but there wasn't any way he could hold his own against Wolverine. No one here could. Right?

Wrong.

Was breaking free? If he hadn't broken free in a rush, the Cajun hadn't done his job. He'd known it was coming, the second he'd said the word 'whore'. It was why he hadn't finished talking, he wanted to be ready when it happened. So when Logan came suddenly swinging, he'd seen it immediately and was able to duck down below that fist, swinging his body and lifting his good arm to elbow the taller man hard in the abdomen, before twisting away and dancing back a few steps, a harsh smirk cutting across his handsome features. If all the talking hadn't done it, he knew that jab to the gut would. Cheap shot.

Remy played dirty, but so did Logan. "You losin' your e'ge, Kitty."

Well, this Logan was not quite the Logan Remy knew. A tad more control, a tad less feral menace. A tad. Just enough to change the parameters of this little squabble a bit.

Logan could move inhumanly fast when the mood suited him. Which it did, just now. He wasn't quite able to avoid the elbow to the gut, but it didn't even slow him down. He just kept right on going, lunging at the Cajun again. He still had enough control to keep the claws in ... but that was as far as it went. Otherwise, he had murder in his eye, aiming a fast series of vicious jabs at Remy.

The Cajun had always been the only one who could fight hand-to-hand with Logan and not come out a bloody stump. Everyone else had to use their powers to keep him at bay. Remy could run, or fight, depending on his mood. Today, with his injured shoulder, he was more interested in running. But he'd turn and fight, when he needed to. Right now, though, he was dodging the majority of those fast jabs, as quickly as the other man could throw them, like he knew they were coming. And he did. This was a different Wolverine, yes.. but their fighting style was the same. And he knew it well enough. One punch would connect, but it was with the Cajun's gloved palm, and he was curling his fingers around it and pulling through, to throw Logan towards the tree behind him and dance a few steps backwards, before making a 'come here' gesture with the same hand. It was much harder to do this one-handed, he knew he'd likely end up getting a little hurt in the end, but that was to be expected.

When you have metal on your bones ... inertia is not your friend.

Logan only barely managed to avoid a collision with the tree (or the ground) by dint of some fancy footwork and a rather undignified lurch.

That accomplished, he turned towards Remy and dropped into a half-crouch, studying him with predatory intensity.

Remy wanted to play? Logan was gonna /play/.

He exploded into movement again, this time aiming a feint at Remy's abdomen ... and swinging the other hand around, aimed at Remy's bad shoulder.

Playing fair had never been Logan's style.

The Cajun fell for the false move and lifted an arm to protect his abdomen from the hit, ready to jump back with the force Logan used against him, and use it to help him get away. But the blow never came. It connected with his bad shoulder and the red-head let out a sudden yell of pain. Something that would echo through the forests and might give someone in town a scare. That had been dirty, but Remy had certainly had worse, so it didn't phase him that much. After the initial shock wore off after a few seconds, he was shoving hard against the larger man and using that to push himself back far enough away that he could put the tree between them long enough to shake his arm a few times to get the feeling back in it, before he bent down to scoop up a rock from the ground, charged it up, and stepped out from behind that tree to launch it at Wolverine.

Whether or not the other man was able to knock it away, Gambit would still come in and aim a knee up into his abdomen. If it connected, he'd be able to back off quickly, if not, he'd move with the motion and glint off the side to brush past him.

Hopefully.

Logan had started to give chase when Remy ducked away ...

Only to get an exploding rock to the face. He let out a yell, more of surprise than actual pain, and fell backwards, instinctively grabbing at Remy as he fell.

And instinct was still working ... in overdrive. The /wrong/ kind of instincts. The ones that'd been drilled into him by certain sick fucks.

He popped the claws on one hand, the other tangled in Remy's shirt, rolling them both until he was on top, stradling Remy, claws sunk, sharp side turned to brush against Remy's shoulder, into the dirt.

When grabbed like that, he made a small noise of surprise, but was hauled to the ground with his own force, unfortunately. It was a mistake he'd made once before with Logan, and he was cursing himself for repeating it now. The other man weighed twice what he did, so the rolling was impossible to stop, once it got going. And once Logan was on top of him? Well. It was impossible to get him off, so wide red eyes were turning up onto the larger man above him as those claws grazed his bare shoulder, cutting three thin lines into his flesh, and sinking into the ground below.

And the Cajun broke into a grin. "You gonna kiss me now, Mon ami?" Best way to break any tension was to make a joke, of course. And if Logan still wanted to fight, Remy was sure he could get himself out of this mess, but he'd wait and see the other's reaction, first. If he was still wound up, they'd go again. If not? Better for the Cajun, as his poor injured shoulder had just gotten more injured.

It took a minute for sense to penetrate the haze in Logan's mind ... but eventually, he got his shit together a bit.

And, somewhat belatedly, realized what Remy had /said/. He let out a snort.

"Sorry. I don't fuck guys. Ain't never been that damn desperate." Hey, could he help it that women flocked to him, drawn by that predatory aura? Totally not his fault, dammit.

He carefully pulled the claws out of the ground, away from Remy's shoulder, and retracted them. But he didn't move.

"You did that on purpose, you shit." Yeah. Acted dumb, but wasn't. Now that he was thinking a bit more clearly, it was plain as day. "Though for the record, y'ever talk about /my/ version of Rogue like that, you're gonna get gutted."

Yeah. Just ... drawing the lines in the sand there. Logan's Rogue was OFF LIMITS. Period.

"Cajuns' ain' guys, mon ami, we men." He assured with that same easy going grin. However, when Logan put two and two together, to figure out that the red-head beneath him had done that on purpose, he just lifted his eyebrows. "Oui, in my worl', I'm 'de only one 'dey sen' in to figh' wit' you. Me an' you, sparrin' par'ners for life, 'cause no one else gonna go up 'gains' you." Honest truth, right there. But it had never phased Gambit. He enjoyed a challenge, and they often came out even. Best three out of five, and it would usually come down to the last fight.

It was good. For both of them. "Nex' time, don' make me piss you off, non? Jus' take 'de invi'e. You ain' gon' hur' me 'dat bad. An' if you ain' careful, I migh' hur' you." But Logan healed, and the lithe man beneath him didn't. And that was what it always came down to. It was why when Remy needed to end their fights, he needed to end them. Not wound and run, but put it to a stop. Because Logan would just keep coming, like a freight train.

Logan could sense that Remy was telling the truth.

Explained a hell of a lot, right there. Logan shifted, then moved to a crouch, allowing Remy the room to get up.

"Only person I met in my world that could match me is Sabretooth." He said. It ... explained his caution. Where he came from, he HAD no equal, no sparring partner that didn't want to kill him. He'd always had to try to keep his ferocity in check. Didn't always work, but he had to try. "But I'll remember next time." He still didn't sound /wholly/ convinced it was a good idea, even if Remy was telling the truth that he could handle Logan.

Old habits, and all that. "Don't see how you could, kid. Only person that can fuck my shit up is Magneto."

But then, he hadn't quite realized that Remy could charge ANYTHING that wasn't living. Yet.

When he was moving so Remy could get up, the Cajun didn't bother. Didn't even sit up, he just laid there. His shoulder hurt, and this was nice. He didn't want to get up and feel the stabbing pain right now. He was resting. "Sabretooth, vraiment droit, jus' a kitty. You kick his ass, non? An' you do well to 'member. I ain' fragile, jus' alrea'y injure', but t'ink wha' I coul'a done if I was healt'y, non?"

Though, when Logan called him a kid, and announced that he wasn't sure how he could hurt him, it made Gambit's grin curl up. "Firs' I ain' a kid, un'ers'an'? I'm twen'y-two." Give or take a year... "Secon', I can' kill you, but I can make your life mis'rble, for 'de res' of your lon' days, oui? I wan', mon ami, I take you ou'." He sounded so sure about it. Because he'd thought, many, many times about how to get the upper hand, and he'd finally figured it out. He just hadn't had the chance to use it yet. He wanted to wait for a time when he was actually fighting the other man, not just sparring. And he knew, one day, that time would come. They wouldn't always be on the same side.

"Dropped the fucker off the top of the damn Statue of Liberty 'cause he was between me'n what I wanted." Logan said, conveniently forgetting it was actually /Scott/ who'd done the dropping.

But then, that was Logan all over.

Then he laughed. "I don't call you that because I think you /are/ a kid, idiot." He said, swiping at Remy, mostly playfully. "Just in case you hadn't figured it out ... I call people nicknames. A /lot/." There were probably all of about three people who didn't get called a nickname in the entire history of Logan's (mostly unremembered) life.

"If you say so, kid." Logan said, patently not believing a word of Remy's boast. Magneto taking him out? Sure. Sabretooth? Possible. Remy? Naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.

Now who was goading who into fighting? Or at least trying to ...

It would work. The (much) younger man was sitting up then, but not standing, not yet, flinching slightly at the pain in his shoulder and reaching one partially gloved hand around to hold onto it, smearing the bit of blood there but not caring much. It was the actual shoulder that hurt, and it'd be more bruised, come morning. Maybe it'd get him some hot female doctors.. maybe he'd have something to thank Logan for, later.

But it wasn't likely.

"You wan' me to do it, mon ami? I will. I kick your ass righ' here. I wasn' figh'in' t'win, homme, I was runnin' 'way to help you get all 'dat.. rawr-ness outta your sys'em, non? You wan' figh' wit' me? Maybe 'dat's a good i'ea, you see 'den you ain' gon' hur' me. Ain' gon' kill me. I'm lucky, an' I'm good. Je ne perds pas." More French, but this time it was simply because his English failed him. It happened sometimes, when he was thinking faster than his accent would allow, and with French being his first language, it was much easier to speak. No translating in his head, just mind to mouth.

Logan was ... tempted.

But it wouldn't be a fair fight, not really. Not with Remy's shoulder half out of commission.

"I'll take a raincheck on that." He said instead. "Give your shoulder a coupla days to heal up so you don't whine that you lost 'cause your shoulder hurt."

Hopefully by then, Remy'd have got his head out of his ass. Truth he might be telling, but Logan rebelled, instinctively, against a no-holds-barred fight with someone like him. Someone who couldn't /heal/ and wasn't an enemy. Shit. He'd tear the kid apart. Oh, maybe the kid'd manage to hold his own for a bit ... but Logan had the advantage of a healing factor, and being able to get the hell back up and keep on going.

Yeah. About the only way Remy was going to convince Logan a fight wouldn't end in Remy dead was for Remy to light Logan up like a Christmas tree. THEN Logan'd get it.

Probably not until then, though.
