Entry tags:!dropped, day 11, jack harkness, location: in town, sarah jane smith, the doctor (ten)

WHO: Jack Harkness, the Doctor [Sarah Jane, feel free to tag in whenever if you'd like!]
WHAT: Jack's trying to keep everyone safe. Because he needs his comfort zone and that's what he does best.
WHEN: Mid-morning; Day 11
WHERE: Around and about town.
RATING: TBA
STATUS: Active

Journal still open, Jack wandered aimlessly through the still-silent town. Somehow, though, it didn't seem as strangein the daylight. Then again, nothing seemed creepy or out of place when the sun was still climbing in the sky. Of course, in the daylight, Jack could see the wreckage everywhere.

Why would the Powers do this? Outside of the fact that they were sadistic bastards. But why destroy nearly every building in the compound and injure so many that it would be next to impossible to rebuild. The next thing they knew, they'd be dropping new buildings in the next day. They could change the weather so it made sense that they could do whatever the hell they wanted. Not a comforting thought.

Jack had left the gym about mid-morning, unable to just sit any longer. And so he walked, checking his journal often, and trying to figure out how to fix things.

Sarah Jane had not slept well. She'd stayed at the remains of the gym, just in case someone needed an able pair of hands or a runner. She'd been dozing when Jack left, curled up near a pile of rubble that had been an outer wall, using her jacket as a pillow. Now, however, she was wandering the town, trying to stretch her sore muscles. Just about everything had been knocked to the ground. She hadn't seen devastation on such a scale in years - not since the Doctor had shown her "1980" as it would have been had Sutekh succeeded in his plans.

She caught sight of two figures a little apart ahead of her, and a relieved grin spread across her face. She hadn't seen or heard from the Doctor since before the earthquake. Although she knew he would have to be all right, seeing him walking about eased her mind so much. She started to jog forward, and felt pain ripple through her hip. Nothing debilitating, but it caused her to slow down to a walk. She didn't want them to worry, after all. "Doctor! Jack!" she called, raising an arm in greeting. Sarah Jane wanted nothing more at that moment than to wrap them both in a giant hug, just to prove to herself that they were real and were truly all right.

The Doctor looked like Jack felt, but without a mirror to look in, it was entirely possible Jack looked like death warmed over. Of course, given that he died the day before, the analogy seemed appropriate. He looked up at the sound of the Doctor's voice, a tired smile spreading across his face. Jack had been so worried about everyone else, he hadn't spared much thought for the Doctor -- other than knowing the man would come through okay.

"Doctor," Jack said softly, swallowing hard.

Then Sarah was there and somehow that seemed to lighten the mood -- even if Jack didn't feel much like smiling. "Sarah Jane Smith," he said with a half-hearted salute in her direction. The Doctor was closer, though, and Jack slid his glance to the other man. "How are you?" he asked out of the corner of his mouth, wondering just how much the other man would confide before Sarah arrived.
