Day 10: Late Morning
Who: Sarah Jane Smith, Shannon Rutherford, Ellen Ripley
What: random encounter and meeting in person
Where: in the lobby of the museum
When: Day 10, late morning (11-ish?)
Rating: PG (?)
Status: Complete

Having spent the day before wandering around the town, Sarah decided to take some time to explore her new "home." She hesitated to think of it as a home, except that the Doctor was bunking here, and being around the Doctor made her feel like she was home, in a way. Familiarity in strange surroundings. And the surroundings were certainly strange. It wasn't the worst prison Sarah had ever found herself in, but it wasn't good by any stretch of the imagination. Still, it could always be worse. At least she wasn't being poisoned by radiation, that she knew of.

The museum was a beautiful old building, even in its current condition. Sarah could see glimpses of what it had been in its prime. Some of the artwork still retained its former beauty, even mold-covered and tattered as it was. It had a sad charm about it Sarah found fascinating. It also served to make her appreciate her own home all the more. As soon as she got out of here, she was going to make sure all of her assets were well taken care of and properly enumerated in her will for Luke.

Luke. It had been two days since she'd last seen her son. She had no doubt that he could take care of himself, but she still worried about him. He would be worried about her, no doubt, probably more than she was about him. Hopefully, the Jacksons would look after him until she could help the Doctor get everyone out of this horrible place. She blinked, feeling the beginnings of tears in her eyes, and hurriedly lifted a hand to wipe them away. Giving in to sadness like that wouldn't help her think, wouldn't do her any good. There would be time enough for tears when they all escaped.

"Oh, hello," she said, looking up. She caught sight of a young woman across the lobby. "I'm afraid you startled me." She wiped at her eyes again and offered the woman a smile.

Shannon's brow furrowed slightly at Ripley's explanation. It didn't match what little she'd heard from Anders and it definitely didn't seem to match what she remembered of the things Kaylee had said. This place was so weird. People from the future had stories that didn't mesh, people from the past; people from the present, so to speak, all had stories that didn't quite come together. It didn't make any sense. It wasn't to say that she thought Ripley was lying or was mistaken in any way, because Shannon was, in fact, fairly certain that she wasn't...it was just a lot more than Shannon could wrap her head around properly.

"None of us - with a few exceptions - know one another very well. I've been here for a little over a week, so that's the longest I've known anyone here. You just have to find someone that seems trustworthy enough to keep their eyes open when yours are closed, honestly. We kind of don't have a choice but to trust one another," she replied apologetically. Shannon ought to know. Her partner was the one person she trusted the least when they'd first met, but Sam hadn't ever given her the impression that he intended to hurt her, so she had to trust that he'd watch her back. She'd, luckily, been right in doing so. And lucky, she continued to realize.

When Sarah said she didn't want to get in the way of their work, Shannon immediately knew what she'd meant. She supposed, perhaps, that was why she'd kept herself attached to Sam even though she'd trusted the Doctor far more. The man had an air about him of purpose and Shannon had somehow known, even then when she'd only really just met him, that having a Shannon-sized barnacle was only going to slow him down. Sam, however vocal about things, didn't seem to mind it and she'd somehow known he wouldn't. Interesting, that: the way that people gave off certain types of vibes without really knowing it. It was yet another reason why she didn't think she'd be spending an awful lot of time in Jack and Ianto's room unless she was sleeping; she didn't want to get in their way and they gave off the same purposeful vibe that the Doctor did. Especially Jack.

"I really don't mean to be rude," she said slowly, looking back and forth between the two women, "but...I'm kind of starving and not feeling awesome, so..." Shannon let her voice trail off and her bloodshot eyes speak the rest for her. She was still trying to come off a bit of a hangover and wanted nothing more than to go back to Sam's room, have something to eat, and go back the hell to sleep in hopes of waking up a little more refreshed the second time around.

"The entire moon's been colonized." Ripley said. "It's pretty much a second Earth. All under domes and the like ... or it was when I last saw it. Been a while since I been there."

Things could have changed in the nearly sixty years she was asleep. They HAD, after all, come up with a way to /create/ breathable atmosphere. Maybe they'd done that on Luna.

"I'll figure something out." Ripley said, then waved Shannon's apology away. "No problem. I'll just take a look around, if you don't mind?"

Sarah looked in sympathy at Shannon. The woman did look as though a good lie-down and a bit of food would do her wonders. "Please don't let us keep you," she said kindly, offering the other woman another smile. "It's been nice meeting you...considering the circumstances. I'm sure we'll see each other again. And I'm sorry to have startled you before." She held out her hand to Shannon, before turning to Ripley.

"It's been nice meeting you as well. Which way are you headed?" Sarah wasn't quite done exploring herself, but she didn't want to intrude on the other woman's time.
