Day Nine - Midmorning
Who: Ianto Jones and Shannon Rutherford
What: Morning jog and then hitting the showers
When: mid-morning
Where: the gym
Rating: Let's go with PG for language - showers totally taking turns.
Status: Active

When Shannon extracted herself from the amusingly awkward tangle of limbs in the boys' room, she made her way to her own. There was a bit of hesitation there, just outside the door of the room she shared with Sam and she wondered if he would be in there...and whether he'd be upset that she ditched him. She found herself relieved, though, when she opened the door and the room was empty.

Not that a skirt was probably ideal, considering it's not-so-modest length, but it was hers and it was the coolest outfit she had - the one she'd started in. It was too hot for jeans and too hot for the long-sleeved shirts she'd stolen from the thrift shop, so she changed back into said skirt and the tank top she'd been wearing with it when she'd first woken up in the woods in the rain over a week ago.

She sat in the room for a few minutes, on the floor, mulling over the previous day and the morning that proceeded it, opening her journal. There was new handwriting...and Shannon couldn't bring herself to respond to any of it. Not just yet. Whoever said she had to be the welcome wagon, anyway? It just sort of happened that way and maybe she wasn't sure she wanted to be that person anymore.

But Ianto had already journaled, too, she saw, so she replied and smirked at her own joke when she teased him for the grabbage in the other room. Okay, a jog it was, then. Maybe she could talk him into taking her back to the gym so she could take a shower after. It had been a few days. He could maybe stand guard outside, so she wouldn't end up having another...inappropriate encounter.

So, Shannon grabbed her backpack - filled with extra clothes she'd have to use as towels as well as what she had left of soap and shampoo. Oh, and she could definitely enjoy a shave again, by now. Shouldering the bag, she headed back out of the room, closing the door behind her to quell any potential curiosity anyone might have to paw through Sam's things, and made her way back toward Jack and Ianto's room, knocking on the door. "Let's roll, Grope-y, before I decide I'm too lazy," she teased through the wood.

Gentle and loving was what had been called for and occasionally, yes, they did do gentle with one another. Other times it was fast and messy and dirty. And still other times, it was a combination of the two. It was all non-verbal communication, really. And it had been a lot of fun and rather relaxing, to boot.

Ianto turned on the water and ducked under the spray, sighing a little and lathering himself up. "I think so. Unless you have someplace you need to be. I've got some things I want to think through." And a bit of quiet wouldn't go amiss while he thought.

Again, Shannon reflexively shook her head as she opened her eyes. "No, I don't really have any plans. At least, not until tonight. You want some company, or prefer some time alone?" she asked, wanting to offer the company should he want it, but also wanting to make sure he knew that he could easily turn her down and there would be no hard feelings on her end for it. Shannon knew the feeling of wanting to be alone; her fourth night had felt that way. She'd only let Sam in because she'd felt too badly to turn him away - she'd lucked out and it had turned out better for it.

"Hey, honestly...this morning stays between the three of us, right?" she asked quietly, cracking the door just enough to let her voice carry through to him. She didn't want anyone else potentially milling around the gym to hear.

"I wouldn't say no to the company," he called back and ducked his head under the chill spray to wet it enough for shampoo. Even cold, the shower felt heavenly. Getting clean shouldn't be a luxury thing, but in this place, it was. And the cold water wasn't exactly unwelcome. It cut through the heat nicely.

At Shannon's quiet question, Ianto stuck his head round the showers, lather oozing down his neck. He blinked to keep it out of his eyes. "Bit embarassed?" he asked in a very neutral tone. "Though, if that's what you like, then certainly. There's no need to tell anyone anything, regardless." He ducked under the water again, to rinse off.

"Well, if you wanted to say no to the company, I wouldn't be offended," Shannon replied with a smirk. "But, cool, if you do want company, that is."

You sound like a twelve-year-old girl trying to make a move, what's your problem? Shannon thought and, ew, she did! That wasn't the point; that wasn't what she was going for at all!

Ianto's response to the other question, though, snapped her out of her self-disgust. "No," she replied honestly, because well, she wasn't embarrassed about it. "It's just...what makes a guy a hero makes a girl a whore, you know?" she asked, brow furrowing slightly. She didn't need or want people talking like that about her; it was bad enough that Rorschach had done it before she'd done anything to merit it. Now, well... Shannon just wanted to avoid the verbal and written fall out of people finding out about that. Might work in Jack and Ianto's favor, but to the residents here, in contrast, Shannon would be a whore, plain and simple, and she knew it.

"If I wanted to say no I would have said no," he said, turning off the water and padding out to dry himself. If Shannon was peeking, she'd be getting an eyeful, but then Ianto had had to sluice down with a teamful of people in the past, so he didn't mind being looked at. Aliens splattered the worst goo, sometimes.

"But as I didn't say no, then the answer isn't no." Reasonably enough. Once dry, Ianto fished out the clothing he had found at the thrift shop (corderoy pants and a tshirt) and wriggled into both. The clothing was horrible but at least it was clean and that counted for a lot. Though it did make him wonder if the watcher was stuck in the 70's or something.

"Aaaah, I understand. Well, to me, you aren't. You're still Shannon and you're still very sweet. Even if you attempt to take over the world. I suspect I'd just be installed into your harem with Jack, so I can't complain. I'm presentable, you can come in, if you like."

Nodding as she hummed her understanding, Shannon leaned against the wall beside the slightly ajar door and looked out at the opposite wall again. "That makes you better than most guys I've come across," she said, only half-joking. As much as men liked to say that women played games, Shannon had come across more than her fair share of men who did the same. Usually, for different reasons. Women played games because they wanted to be chased. Men played them to keep from hurting women's feelings, in her experience. She hoped that that wasn't the case with Ianto and she was glad to hear that it wasn't.

Looking over her shoulder and through the door reflexively when his voice was closer, Shannon blinked and looked away again quickly. In spite of their morning, she felt like it wasn't her place to be looking, even if she kind of wanted to, so, face red, Shannon looked back out at the opposite wall again.

"Well thank you," she replied with a small smile. He didn't know the half of it. Shannon wasn't sweet and she knew it. Not anymore. Once upon a time, she used to be, she supposed, before Sabrina rolled around, but that...was a long time ago. Ianto didn't need to know that, though. She liked him thinking that she was a good person when she didn't think she was. At least someone thought so, anyway. "I...have no intention of trying to take over the world," she laughed in response, "but if I was gonna, you and Jack would definitely be in my harem, yes," she added, grinning. When Ianto announced that he was presentable, which Shannon took to mean 'dressed,' she turned back to the door again, pulling it open and letting herself in. "Feel better?" she asked with a small smile.

Oh, my God, how cute are you in street clothes with your hair all messy and wet?! she thought gleefully. Ianto was fucking adorable and nothing was going to change her mind about that.

"It .. doesn't make me better. It just means that I don't judge." Ianto ruffled at his wet hair and wished for gel or pommade or something to style it with. Without gel, it lay flat against his head and had a tendency to curl at the ends. Made him look younger than he really was. "I, ah. Being .. bi means that everyone judges you. So I learned early on to not. And I learned to disregard labels, too."

He held his hands out to the side and turned a little, for Shannon's benifit. "Is it me?" he asked, grinning a bit, then bent to stuff his feet back into his shoes. He did wear street clothes, but normally looked put together even then. Like this he felt sort of ... scruffy.

Shannon gave Ianto a sad smile and shook her head. "Believe me, Ianto. It makes you better," she said with a tone of finality. She looked down, then, thinking to herself that she couldn't even say that she hadn't ever judged someone based on their sexuality, because it'd be a big, fat lie. When she looked back up at Ianto, she nodded her understanding. "Well, I won't judge you," she offered. It was true now, even if it'd be a lie back in the real world before she'd come to this place.

The small smile expanded into a grin as Ianto turned. "Totally hot," she said, winking. "Should we get back, then?" she asked. Now that she had had a good morning, a good jog afterward, and a great shower, Shannon was ready to retire to Sam's room, have something to eat, and flip through the journals idly, like she often did when there was nothing left to pass the time.
