Domeki returned to the museum with all haste. The words spoken by Watanuki's double haunted him in time to his footfalls and he found that he couldn't quite banish the admonishments as easily when he was on his own. It was one thing for him to not flinch in the face of an insult but it was quite another to nurse a hidden bruise - especially a bruise which had been well deserved. Still, Domeki knew that it was not the time to be thinking of himself - not when there was a double of Watanuki wandering about and causing trouble and not when the very fact that Watanuki had a double likely meant serious repercussions. It didn't take much studying, after all, to know that a double was a sign of death.

Trying not to think too deeply on this, Domeki let himself into the museum. Only when inside did he realize that he hadn't asked Watanuki where he would be waiting but Domeki assumed that it wouldn't be all that difficult to find the other. His features grim, he wandered with purpose toward where he had last seen Watanuki.

Watanuki had just returned to the museum when he noticed the message Domeki had written in the journal. The short exchange that followed had him so rattled that he even forgot about taunting Domeki. It was as if even him, who was usually calm and composed, had been taken by surprise. Watanuki could hardly blame his friend. If there was someone walking around and looking like him...

Someone else had written in the journals saying that there were clones, but he had only been concerned about making sure he wasn't talking to a clone. The fact that a clone of himself might exist (and even worse that his clone might meet his friends) had completely escaped his mind.
He shook his head, pacing the room up and down. It sounded like nonsense, but he'd seen too many strange things to disbelieve this. He wanted Domeki to arrive as soon as possible and explain everything.

He ran to the door and bolted it open as soon as he heard steps outside. Luckily it was Domeki. Sighing with relief, Watanuki waved at his friend even though they were just a few feet apart.
"What took you so long?" he blurted out. "What happened? Is Tink okay?"

It was paranoia, pure and simple, that caused Domeki to take a long moment to study the teen before him. He knew that he had left the double to walk the streets once the confrontation had been over and he knew that it would have been very hard for the false Watanuki to make it to the museum before Domeki was able - but he still studied the Watanuki before him for any sign that he might be another cheap imitation.

Fortunately, the tone of the voice and the nature of the movements spoke of the truth and Domeki allowed himself to relax - but only slightly. Even if he could consciously dismiss what the clone had said, he couldn't quite fully banish the effects of the words on his way of thinking nor could he dismiss the truth under the lies.

"I had to take Bell somewhere safe and I didn't want to leave her alone. I had to make sure that she was alright," he explained as he crossed his arms over himself. "She's...shaken up by what your double had to say to her but I wouldn't have left her if she wouldn't be alright. You might want to talk to her once all of this is over."
