Who: Clone!Watanuki, Domeki, and Tinker Bell
What: Anti-Watanuki fun
Where: Outside, somewhere near the museum and the theater
When: Late afternoon
Rating: TBD, but PG for starters
Status: Active

The snow had been melting, and, as with spring, with it came birth. The false Watanuki was, at first, surprised to find that he had been granted physical form. Then, his lips curled into an almost-sneer. Why would he not be given physical form? He was the potential Watanuki, he realized, as his memories began to take form. All the wasted energy of the real one was his to use.

He walked slowly, making his way down the road. It was all very new to him, being alive, and he was having a bit of difficulty coming into his own thoughts and body. The real Watanuki had so many thoughts, so many opinions, so much social conditioning that he simply could not understand. He also had many complex interpersonal relationships. Then there was that bizarre power he had, the one that the real Watanuki had had seventeen years to come to terms with; he'd barely had seventeen seconds.

Pushing his glasses up on his face, he inhaled deeply. The air was still a little crisp, and he'd inhaled with too much vigor. He broke into a coughing fit, doubling over slightly. He was not, for the moment, aware of anyone else in the area.

It was easy for Domeki to decide to tend to Bell's needs before he entertained those of whatever had chosen to take Watanuki's shape. He turned her head toward the fairy as she clutched to his arm and he frowned at the almost bruised color of her aura. "This isn't our Watanuki, Bell. This is something else entirely. You know Watanuki would never treat you like this nor would he say these things to you. You don't have to listen to what he's saying and you don't have to believe him. I am here because I do like you and I want to be your friend. You might have those whom you angered but there are also those who do need and who do want you to be around."

He paused a long moment as he thought of the invective which had been thrown at him and Domeki found that there was some truth buried in the words - he did have a habit of doing the obnoxious things which the Watanuki-shape had mentioned and he was fully capable of realizing how they could easily get on one's last nerve. The only grace which kept him from swallowing the bitter pill whole was that he had faith that any true grievances could be aired between himself and Watanuki without such an emotional and wordy display.

"Even this Watanuki is right about a few things - I do follow him around and I do tend to show up where I'm not wanted. Maybe I even am a drain on him," he shrugged his shoulders as if rather disinterested in the crimes listed against him. "He's also right in that we share an eye but he seems to forget that it would have been much easier to simply leave the web over my eye so that I would be half-blind instead of him having to nearly give up his own sight."

"I know that I have no way to banish you and that I have no power - but that doesn't make me like you," he shook his head as he lifted his glance to meet the mismatched eyes he knew so well. "You know why? Because you don't need power. You don't need anything but the empathy and kindness you always had. Because of that, I won't ever leave you alone and because of that I know you're not Watanuki."

Domeki was not the violent sort but he was not above doing what was necessary. Gently, he disentangled from Bell's hold on his arm and he stepped forward to close the distance between himself and the Watanuki-shape. As he did so, he threw his balled fist forward in search of the softness of the impostor's stomach. Admittedly, Domeki wasn't the strongest person in the world but he was rather hoping that it would be enough to incapacitate the Watanuki-shape for a moment.

"No, Domeki, he's right. I...everything he said, it's probably true."

When he pulled his arm away from her, Tinker Bell sank to the ground, landing in a heap. She curled her knees up to her face, hiding herself, sobbing softly. It was too much. It had been too peculiar a day, and too bad a few days, for her to simply brush off the things that the Watanuki shaped thing had said. All of her emotions were running too close to the surface.

It hurt her brain to try to think about what was going on. She trusted the Domeki, but she also trusted the Watanuki, too. They were both fairly strange to her still. She had not known them long, and she had mistreated them both in horrible ways in her state of rage. In truth, she was not certain what wicked words their mouths were capable of. Her heart was aching, and it was breaking at the same time. Just when she thought that things had gotten better, that she'd found people who could handle her mood swings and who would forgive her, Watanuki had said some incredibly heartless things. Why couldn't everyone just be like Peter?

But no, it was good that they were not like Peter. For though he had a great capacity for forgiveness, Peter Pan had a greater capacity for forgetfulness. That, after all, was how she had ended up here.

"Nobody wants to be my partner," she wailed, as that was the comment that summed it all up and touched her current worry and woe the most. "Nobody in this whole place, in the whole world, in any world, in the whole of the Neverland, wants to be my partner. Nobody wants just me the way that I need just them." She sobbed louder, her wings curling around her balled up body even more, blue dust falling to the ground with her shaking. "Not even you. You've got a partner. You've got the Watanuki. Nobody needs only me."

Watching the fairy crumble, the faux Watanuki could only smirk. He felt somewhat bad for her, but it was important that people see the truth. She, especially, needed it. He shook his head, looking up at Domeki, who had advanced towards him -- just in time to be punched.

A horrible wailing sound escaped his throat as he doubled over, holding his stomach. He had not been expecting Domeki to hit him. In fact, in his very limited memory, he did not really recall being hit. It may have happened, but he overlooked it. Looking up at him through his hair, some of it hanging in his eyes, he let out a squeak at first. The wind had been wholly knocked out of him. There were no words, no snarky sarcasm, just a general sense of being pathetic.

"You're a barbarian," he breathed, holding his sides in pain.

Domeki knelt on the ground before the fake Watanuki. He cocked his head so that he could again have eye contact but his expression was back to its unreadable neutral. If he felt regret for having punched the duplicate of his friend, then it hardly showed on him. "You're feeling only a fraction of what you've made her feel - but it's a start on the path to empathy. I don't expect you to stay in this place but if I see you again then I hope you have learned."

In a graceful movement, Domeki was back on his feet. He moved to where Bell had curled on the unforgiving ground and he knelt beside her. Much as he had done when she was small and trapped in their common cell, he brushed a hand through her hair. "I do have Watanuki but that doesn't mean that I cannot be partner to you both. They said that we should travel in groups - we can be a group: you, Watanuki, and myself. I would like that and I'm sure Watanuki would, too."

For a few moments she was silent as he stroked a hand through her hair. She had made no reaction when he had punched the fake Watanuki. She still wasn't exactly sure what, exactly, was going on. Her mind was still reeling from all of the horribly mean yet, somehow, true things that he had said to her. She tilted her head towards his hand only for a moment before pushing his hand away.

"You shouldn't hit people. Just like you shouldn't wish them dead. Even if they deserve it. I've learned that much in the past few days." She attempted a half-hearted laugh as she turned her face away from him. It bothered her that he was seeing her crying in such a situation.

His suggestion, though, simply prompted more tears. She buried her face in her hands, her blonde hair forming a curtain to hide her from his view. The glow around her body got darker, so dark that it was barely a glow at all. "You have Watanuki. I don't have anybody. I want somebody to myself!" She was not aware that she sounded somewhat like a spoiled brat, but all of the pain that had been in her heart since Neverland was building up and pouring out. "I want somebody to want only me! I want somebody that thinks that I matter. I don't want to be part of the group anymore. I want to be special!"

She stumbled to her feet, her chest shaking with her crying, and she turned. Glaring at the fake Watanuki, she spit at him. "You might be right, but that doesn't mean that I have to let other people watch me as I fall apart." She started walking, looking lost. "I should go."

"If I'm only feeling a fraction of what she's feeling, then what fraction of what you're feeling am I experiencing, Domeki?" He curled into himself, laughing. "It is not I who needs to learn anything, though I have chosen to take this lesson to heart. You are incapable of taking criticism gracefully. It's a shame, really, as it's such a necessary part of being alive." Demented. He was just a little bit demented and sick.

The fake Watanuki watched the two of them from where he was curled up on the ground. His fists curled into fists, and he began uncurling himself. He'd be feeling that for quite a goodly long time. His eyes narrowed at them. How were they still so close? They knew the awful truth about each other.

When the fairy spit at him, he barely flinched. She was walking one way, and he was walking the other. "I know I'm right," he said, wiping his shoulder. "The question is when will you accept that I'm right?" Hands in his pockets, he picked up the pace, doing his best to get out of there before he got hit again.

Domeki took his hand back without comment when Bell pushed it away and he shook his head slightly. "You're right. I probably shouldn't have hit him - but it will make things easier a little later on." In silence, he listened to her declaration that she wanted to be the sole important one in someone's heart and he felt that he could understand what she was saying - it was nothing more than what a large portion of the world wished for. Unfortunately, only a small number of those ever achieved such a fine thing and even fewer realized what they had.

Sitting back on his heels, he watched as Bell moved to wander away but she seemed so last that he didn't know if it would be wise for her to go alone. "Bell, let me walk with you - just as far as you're going."

Domeki turned his head to watch the not-Watanuki as be began to walk away but he came to the quick conclusion that following him would do little to no good; it would be better to tend to Bell and to warn the real Watanuki about what might be ahead of him.

Her eyes followed the Watanuki as he walked away. It felt as if her heart had been shattered into a few thousand little pieces, and all of it wanted to pour out of her eyes. She took a few deep, heaving, shuddering breaths to try to calm herself. It wasn't a very effective practice for her. Very frequently, the emotions that she experienced were overwhelming. They had to burn themselves out and use up all of their energy. This upset, compounded with others of late, would take some time to clear up.

"I don't know where I'm going," she said absently. Her voice sounded far away. Stopping, she looked back at him, wiping her eyes with the back of her arm. The tears were welling up again, and her eyes felt heavy. "I'm not sure I can let you walk with me. I mean, you've got people waiting on you." Her voice trailed off. Crossing her arms over her chest, she turned away from him, clenching her teeth. Wretched. Absolutely wretched. "I don't want to be a bother, after all, and keep you from getting back any more than I already have. I probably should have stayed in the thrift shop, but I just couldn't take it anymore."

Her hands lifted, covering her face, and she tried to keep breathing slowly. "I don't know where I'm going to go because I don't have anywhere to go. Nobody needs me the way that they need you. What am I going to do, Domeki? Where am I going to go?"
