Day Eight Morning
Who: clone!Doctor, Shannon Rutherford
What: morale boost for Shannon
Where: in the museum
When: Day 8, morning
Rating: PG
Status: Complete

The fake Doctor walked through a corridor of the museum, a smile playing on his face. He wasn't in a hurry to go anywhere and he was rather enjoying the sensation of walking around. Pausing by a window he studied his reflected face - incidentally noting that the snow outside the building had started to melt - and grinned at his own reflection.
This would be... interesting.

He had memories in his head. He knew everything that the Doctor knew, and at the same time he also knew that he wasn't the real Doctor. It was a strange sensation, akin to realizing that you're in a dream while still asleep. And, just like in these situations, he felt that he could do anything.
He didn't have any plans yet, but it would be amusing to see how other people would react to him. Possibly they wouldn't realize that he wasn't the real Doctor, eventually, but the real fun would be watching them while they came to that conclusion.

So, if that was today's objective, he would have to find someone who knew the real Doctor. No point in going out of the Museum, where other people wouldn't recognize him at all. Of course what he really wanted to avoid was meeting the real Doctor, because while being probably very amusing it would also almost certainly mean the end of his little game. And from his point of view he had everything to gain by keeping up this facade.

The memories in his head were a bit fuzzy, and he couldn't get a grip on the details. He knew that some people, including him, usually slept in this building, however he couldn't remember where exactly. He was about to call out for someone when he realized that this would mean giving away his game too early, or at least making them suspicious from the beginning.
He kept walking, trying to head towards where he vaguely remembered the entrance to be. After all, he was in no hurry and he was bound to meet someone sooner or later.

Shannon gave the Doctor another sympathetic smile when he held his hand over his mouth to yawn. She knew the feeling; she hadn't slept at all, really, that first night when she'd been all alone and she was fairly certain that the only reason she was getting any decent amount of sleep lately was because she had Sam to keep her warm every night. The Doctor, however, had no one. Poor guy was probably totally beat.

The Doctor's voice trailed off and the pause there was something in the tone of his voice that made Shannon's heart sink in response. He almost sounded like he might be considering giving up hope that his friend was all right. The Doctor had been the most enthusiastic and confident about his ability to get them out of the Glass Cage and now he sounded almost like he was resigned. That was a hell of a blow for Shannon's hope.

Taking a deep breath and letting it out in a succinct sigh, Shannon nodded. "I'll leave you to it, then," she said, climbing to her feet again. "I'm going back to sleep, myself, I think," she added, stifling a yawn with the back of her hand. "And yeah no offense, but I think I'm gonna stay put today..." she said uneasily. "Get some sleep," she reiterated as she backed toward the hall, not wanting to turn her back on him just yet in case he had something else to say. After a moment, though, she yawned again and gave the Doctor a small, weak wave with one hand before heading back to the room she shared with Sam and closing the door behind her.

The false Doctor simply nodded and got on his feet together with Shannon. "Thanks for the breakfast. Have a nice sleep," he said with a grin. Then he watched the woman disappear into her room, the grin still etched on his face. A nice sleep, indeed. After their exchange she had seemed quite rattled, and the Doctor was ready to bet that she wouldn't be able to as much as close her eyes.

"We have to find Martha and River, before..." he whispered to himself. That had been a good one, though Shannon shouldn't have been so much troubled. One of those women was safe, so far, and as for the other nothing worse would happen.

The museum seemed empty right now, everyone was either asleep or outside. He didn't see any point in going to sleep like he'd told Shannon so he stepped out, choosing one street at random. Too bad he wouldn't get to bring Shannon to find Martha, but maybe he could find someone else.
After a few slow steps, he made up his mind and decided to walk more quickly. Suddenly he had the definite feeling that he didn't have much time for himself.
