Day Eight Morning
Who: clone!Doctor, Shannon Rutherford
What: morale boost for Shannon
Where: in the museum
When: Day 8, morning
Rating: PG
Status: Complete

The fake Doctor walked through a corridor of the museum, a smile playing on his face. He wasn't in a hurry to go anywhere and he was rather enjoying the sensation of walking around. Pausing by a window he studied his reflected face - incidentally noting that the snow outside the building had started to melt - and grinned at his own reflection.
This would be... interesting.

He had memories in his head. He knew everything that the Doctor knew, and at the same time he also knew that he wasn't the real Doctor. It was a strange sensation, akin to realizing that you're in a dream while still asleep. And, just like in these situations, he felt that he could do anything.
He didn't have any plans yet, but it would be amusing to see how other people would react to him. Possibly they wouldn't realize that he wasn't the real Doctor, eventually, but the real fun would be watching them while they came to that conclusion.

So, if that was today's objective, he would have to find someone who knew the real Doctor. No point in going out of the Museum, where other people wouldn't recognize him at all. Of course what he really wanted to avoid was meeting the real Doctor, because while being probably very amusing it would also almost certainly mean the end of his little game. And from his point of view he had everything to gain by keeping up this facade.

The memories in his head were a bit fuzzy, and he couldn't get a grip on the details. He knew that some people, including him, usually slept in this building, however he couldn't remember where exactly. He was about to call out for someone when he realized that this would mean giving away his game too early, or at least making them suspicious from the beginning.
He kept walking, trying to head towards where he vaguely remembered the entrance to be. After all, he was in no hurry and he was bound to meet someone sooner or later.

Nodding, Shannon gave the Doctor another sympathetic smile. "A little, yeah. I do that when I'm tired, too. Ramble, that is," she replied. It was hard to string together coherent sentences sometimes under exhaustion and stress, Shannon knew. She thought maybe she might know it better than most people, actually, when she really considered it.

"It's not a bad one, Doctor, it's just...you know, yeah. There's people missing." It was disconcerting to see the Doctor so far off his game and Shannon didn't even really know him that well. It was basically just what he showed her that she knew. From the first time she'd met him, though, and he'd wanted to explore - or, as he'd said, go on an adventure - she'd been able to tell that he was a motivated individual. Intelligent and motivated; pushing antsy. Not this morning and she felt uncomfortable with that even as she felt sympathetic.

Of course there wouldn't be a tattoo, Shannon realized a little too late. That was stupid. Dean hadn't even known who he was, much less who anyone else around him, including his own little brother. If the Doctor knew who she was, and didn't seem to be terribly disoriented, then that wasn't what was wrong. Maybe he really was just exhausted. Shannon nodded. It surprised her when he confided in her and when he asked her not to tell because he didn't want people to panic, she had a fleeting thought, wondering to herself why the hell he thought she wouldn't panic. Instead of speaking, she nodded tersely. "Maybe instead of going out, you should get some rest," she suggested. She didn't think she needed to say why.

The Doctor put one hand over his mouth, apparently to stifle a yawn. In truth, it was all he could do to prevent himself from laughing out loud. He couldn't believe Shannon had been so stupid as to believe everything he was telling her. Obviously he knew that his so-called new plan was just nonsense - he did have all of the memories and knowledge of the real Doctor inside him - but there was no point in giving them useful ideas. It was so much more fun to sit back and watch them run around in circles like headless chickens.

Shannon had been so easy to manipulate. It was interesting to watch her try to fight back the panic. He could almost read her thoughts while he mentioned the missing girls, the forest, the glass wall.
Fear was such an interesting human emotion.
"I know what you mean," the false Doctor said quietly. "That's why I didn't want to go out on my own. But I still think that I should go out and look for Martha and River, before..."
He staged a small pause here, for dramatic effect. Maybe it was overdoing it, but he wasn't going to waste such a great chance to toy with people.

He nodded when Shannon suggested he should rest. Obviously he had no intention of doing so, the risk of the real Doctor arriving to spoil his private party was much too high. But it seemed like the best way to get away from Shannon at the moment.
"Tell you what, I'll go and have a nap and afterwards I'm going to see if I can form a search group. I'll understand if you prefer to stay here. It'll be safer," he went on. Shannon was getting on his nerves. Watching while she tried not to panic had been fun for a while, but it didn't look as if she was about to go into hysterics any time soon and he'd probably never be able to bring her into the forest. Now it was time to move on to someone else. Someone more interesting.
