Entry tags:!dropped, day 23, location: barn, remy lebeau, selene

Who: Remy LeBeau & Selene [Open to anyone else who'd see the fire and come looking]
What: Selene follows the fire to the barn.
Where: About a hundred feet from the barn, on the road.
When: Day 23, 6:30pm
Rating: PG-13
Status: Dropped

The large fire blazing atop over the trees was bright and hot, there was no way any of them would be able to put it out. Sure, the Doctor could have stopped it while it was still small, with those buckets of water the Cajun had sitting not far.. but he hadn't. And sure, the Mutant could have not set the fire in the first place.. but he had. He had to watch it burn, for many reasons. So standing there on the side of the road, with his little red Radio Flyer wagon, rusted and dull with age, he stared through the thin trees at the barn he'd called home for two weeks, engulfed in flame. In his little red wagon were three buckets of water, three empty buckets, a washing board (clearly home-made) and a few bottles of water. He'd made himself quite the nice little home there, but it'd had to burn.

In retrospect, perhaps he should have saved a few more things.. like his journal. Like the rope inside. Like his extra clothes.. his pillows.. his sheets. Standing there, staring at the fire decimate everything he'd collected over his stay here, the Cajun crossed his arms, ran his tongue over his teeth, then clicked his tongue once.

"Huh." That had been a bad idea.

He waggled his eyebrows when she pointed out the fact that most of his rough-housing around ended in sex. Well, it was a true fact, was he supposed to deny it? Yeah right. "Ain' never been big on killin', myself. Bu' I 'precia'e 'de fac' you don' wanna kill me, chere." A charming smile was sent her way, complete with a wink, as he began pulling that little red wagon along down the road, away from the burning barn.

"Where you been stayin'?" He wanted to know, so he could find you if he ever had use for you.. or, you know, ever wanted to simply chat with you. But he wasn't going to admit that last part. Remy LeBeau was adept at dealing with people and he enjoyed it, he liked interacting, even if he didn't always like the people... but he enjoyed the vampire's company. Lucky (or unlucky) for her. "M' goin' t' be stayin' at 'de church for uh bi', I t'ink.. goin' 'dere now." Of course he was headed there.. but he wouldn't make it. He'd be distracted for a few hours before actually getting to the doors and the Time Lord within.

"No, I don't want to kill you. Not unless you give me a reason." she teased, moving to walk with him. "Here and there, really. Catching a few hours sleep on the rooftops mostly. I've been trying to avoid getting settled anywhere but I suppose at this point I might as well." And she didn't say it, but the constant darkness really hadn't been all that bothersome for her, other than the lack of a moon and stars in the sky. It felt less strange to be up and about during daytime hours when it was dark, then when she knew the sun was simply hiding behind clouds. Centuries of habit died hard.

"I'm hearin' rumors 'dat 'de lil' boy in town ain' stayin wit' Rose no more. Y' migh' wanna go an' check up on him.. seen you walkin' wit' him 'fore. Migh' fin' uh permanan' place wit' him." One hand was sticking into the pocket of his coat as he walked along lazily, finally turning those odd eyes onto her for a moment, taking in her appearance before he smiled and looked forward again. Strange young man indeed.

"Be bes' t' stay where we know you gonna be, 'case somet'in' happens t' you, we'd know. Ain' not'in' worse 'den not knowin'." And he knew all about it, so trust him on that one, Selene.

At that her brows rose and she looked over at Gambit. "I'm not a babysitter. I may be a lot of things, but I am most certainly not that. And I certainly don't need anyone depending on me." Especially not a young werewolf that occasionally reminded her of her lover prior to arriving in this place. The vampire shook her head, banishing such thoughts or doing her best to.

"Yes, and the downside to that is that once someone finds out what I am and isn't okay with it, they'll know where to go to try and kill me." Selene's hands eventually moved to her own pockets, part of her hoping to reach in some time and find one of her modified throwing stars or something she otherwise usually carried. "I'm immortal, Gambit. Don't worry about something happening to me." Though she found it difficult for anyone to truly worry about her. She doubted she was close enough with anyone to.

Immortal. That was the word that ultimately caught his attention, and he slowly came to a stop, staring off into the darkened distance before he turned his head to look at her, as if seeing her for the first time. "You immor'al." He repeated, but it seemed to take a few minutes to sink in, before he was releasing the handle on that red wagon, letting it clink back onto the little cart behind him.

"Does i' work like i' do in 'de movies? You bi'e someone, give 'dem your bloo', an' 'dey like you?" What he was asking was: could you make him immortal, like you?

Careful how you answer, Selene.

She probably shouldn't have chosen her words more carefully. That was what Selene was thinking when she felt Gambit pause and she looked to him, seeing a familiar sort of look on his face. One didn't live as long as she did and have even occasional contact with the mortal world without encountering such situations as the one she'd just walked herself into. She sighed, turning to face him, hands coming up to tuck her hair behind her ears to keep from resting them on her hips in an impatient manner.

"No, that's not how it works. Most humans die simply from being bitten, whether it's vampire or lycan." she stated matter-of-factly, if slightly cold. Though she was aware that she had bitten Gambit, and he clearly was fine. She suspected the fact that he wasn't quite human had something to do with that. "We carry a virus that makes us what we are. It's easier for a vampire to be born than a human to be turned into one." But not impossible. It just didn't happen much anymore. Nor had she ever turned anyone. Of course, she had been turned herself, and she remembered how it was done, though she had been told countless times only an Elder had the power to carry a human through the change. Was it true, or just another of the lies woven to keep them all in line? She didn't know, and it wasn't really the time for her to be thinking about it.

He nearly announced that he wasn't dead.. but then he realized that it was very apparent that he wasn't dead, and it could go without saying. She'd had a drink from him and he was (mostly) fine. And now the gears in his head were turning. Immortality. Maybe then the Doctor would stop being so worried about him dying. He could take a lot of strain off of things.. but he'd have to drink blood and that wasn't very appealing. The thought made him scrunch his nose a little. He'd keep it in the back of his mind, for later. Just in case.

"Wha's uh Lycan?" Questioned after a moment of silence. He only knew them as 'werewolves', sorry, Selene, but he'd understand once you pointed it out.

When he didn't point out that he was clearly not dead after being bitten Selene almost allowed herself a sigh of relief. She should know better than to think the subject could be over that easily, or that Gambit wouldn't bring it up again, perhaps when she was starting to feel starved and hopefully (for him) not thinking clearly.

Her brows furrowed a moment, as if it should have been obvious what she was talking about, when she remembered that wasn't the term most people knew. "Werewolf. Sorry, that's the term we use where I come from. Old habits, you know." The vampire shrugged a shoulder, hoping he would let the subject go. She even started walking again, in hopes that he would too. "And I really don't think we need any more vampires around here. It's hard enough to find a suitable meal as it is." Which was really only because she wasn't attacking people when it suited her.

"Werewolf. Like 'de boy here?" Oh, don't you think that Remy hadn't noticed, Selene. He believed in things like vampires and werewolves and aliens.. so after you'd become known as a vampire to him, he'd pinned the boy living here as a werewolf. Why not? They already had an alien and an immortal guy-- and a mutant. It was like a freak show in this little glass prison.

"Non, you righ'." They didn't need two vampires competing for food, they already had enough humans competing for food around here.

There was a brief pause in her steps though she tried to hide it, practically knew Gambit would notice it. "Yes." she conceded after a moment's hesitation, looking over at him. "What do you know of him?" She wasn't worried about Gambit telling others about what Remus was... oh, who was she kidding. Of course she was. Same as she worried about everyone who knew what she was informing the others. The vampire didn't trust anyone, not really, and she would do whatever it took to protect herself.

He certainly noticed the pause, and he was rolling his shoulders back, still tugging along that little red wagon. "Didn' know not'in' 'til you tol' me." He admitted with a growing smile. No, Selene, he hadn't know for sure.. but now he did. Thanks for that. And the poor vampire was getting a wink, before he looked forward again. "You seem uh lil' prote'ive. Or is 'dat jus' you bein' teri'orial." He'd seen Interview With A Vampire, he knew all about them. Brad Pitt was very convincing. Tom Cruise hadn't been bad either..

But really, Selene, he hadn't told anyone about you, save the Doctor.. and he'd had a reason for that. He wasn't going to tell anyone about the boy. Wasn't his place.
