Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:!complete, day 23, location: gym, rose tyler, the doctor (nine)

Who: Rose Tyler and anyone in the gym
What: A very rude awakening
When: Day 23, bright and early
Where: I SAID the gym!
Status: Active
Rating: PG...13!

She may have only known him a couple of days, but Rose was beginning to consider herself close to Chris. To see him so weakened and miserable and ill physically pained her. The man had listened to her babble about complete nonsense, had confided in her about some of his own sufferings, and, well, she could possibly move him up into the makeout buddy category, too. In this place? It didn't hurt to find some comfort, and after the week she'd had, it felt good to know she was wanted, even if by someone who by all rights was a complete stranger. Even if he was a good-looking, green-eyed, good as gold, guardian angel style complete stranger.

Though she'd tried desperately to stay awake by his side, helping however she could, she'd dozed off for what she assumed were just a few moments. But that clearly hadn't been enough for their beloved management, said with sarcasm dripping. They'd moved her from her night watch at some point, plopped her into the area she'd been calling 'home' since she'd retreated to the gym, and given her a giant body pillow. In her sleep, all she knew was there was an additional figure, a tall lanky one that seemed terribly comfortable.

Until the smell reached her.

Rose stirred, knowing immediately something was off. First of all, she hadn't had anyone sharing her bed since Mickey, and this figure was definitely not shaped like his. Secondly, she definitely hadn't in this place, and she knew as soon as she figured out she wasn't in her comfortable TARDIS bed that she was still in that awful glass box. And thirdly...no man she'd ever invited home, even at her drunkest, would smell like that.

With a sinking feeling in her stomach, Rose's eyes flickered open. She turned over and blinked. The dread she'd felt turned to horror and she sat up lightning fast. No. No. They hadn't. They couldn't have! But it was him. And he? Had been presented to her like a gift, all wrapped up in his tattered trench, his ruined suit, and his bruised, beaten, and mangled body.

At that point, she didn't care who she woke up. All sense left her as Rose let out a panicked, desperate scream. Not quite loud enough to wake the dead--the proof lay lifeless beside her.

Once she had settled on the steps, Nine was sitting down next to her, doing his best to keep his hand from straying out to hold onto hers. Why had he brought her out here? It was for more than the fresh air.. it was for the privacy. He'd had something he'd wanted to say, something he'd wanted to tell her.. but now that he had the chance, he was getting wet feet. Blue eyes lowered, focusing on the steps beneath his feet as he remembered the way her mouth felt on his. It had only been a kiss meant to save her life, but...

No, stop thinking that way, Time Lord. He lifted those bright eyes back to her darker set. "I need a few more hours to put it together.. but I'll tell you once I have it ready." He didn't want to get into it right now, in case it didn't work. He didn't want to get anyone's hopes up.

"Oh, come now, how is that fair?" she scolded, giving him a hard stare, though it broke as she smiled. She turned to face him, pulling her knees in to a cross-legged position and draping her arms on top. After the rough night and rougher morning, it felt good to just sit and talk.

A few more hours. Was he leaving just then? He couldn't. Not because she needed to cling to him, but he needed to go to...well, himself, actually. She wouldn't admit it out loud. Rose was still desperately trying to keep the pin-stripe wearing Doctor from her mind. Despite the hurt and fear she'd felt on thinking he was dead, she was still angry. She knew by then that he'd never intentionally hurt her. It didn't mean she wasn't hurt by all that had happened. Intentional or not, he'd all but torn her apart for the last several days.

But the fact that the normally talkative man had all but brushed off most of the words she'd read on the page was something to worry about. And honestly? She sort of hated herself for worrying.

Again, she tried to push the thought from her mind, and she propped her chin in her hands as she looked up at him. "Come on, can't you at least give me some sort of clue? Lemme know what I'm in for and the like?"

"I will when I can." He assured her with a smile, stooping down and bringing his face closer to hers.. but then he turned his face and pressed a kiss against her cheek and straightened up again. "Go back inside, Rose Tyler. I'll come back for you. Take care of your friend." You'd inspired him to make sure that they got the Hell out of this place as soon as possible.. not that it'd work, but he didn't know that. He was a Time Lord! He could get them out of any mess, epsecially with two of them around. And it was that thought that made him remember Ten.. but he could wait.

Maybe he'd go see him tomorrow, he wasn't too keen on doing it today. Not yet.

Rose honestly thought for all the world that he'd been about to kiss her. And she wasn't entirely sure she'd have minded. It was so confusing, the emotions running through her as his face drew closer. Was that what she wanted? Part of her thought she did. The other part was terrified to move what was between them to anything beyond what it already was. Especially with everything so tenuous elsewhere.

But then his face shifted a bit and she felt his breath against her as his lips touched her cheek gently. A small part of her was relieved. The other part? Entirely disappointed. And that was going to take a bit of thought on her part.

She stood and reached down, lightly brushing her hand over the back of his neck. "Thank you. For being here. I needed that." But Chris needed her. And she had to figure out what to do with two dead bodies.

"I'll come back." He promised her once again, before shifting and standing up as well, hands dusting off his pants. He had work to do. "Take care of your friend, when I get back, I'll have food and water." And he'd take care of you. Those were the unspoken words between them. He'd always take care of you, Rose. Whether you wanted him to or not.

"Stay out of trouble." His parting words, as he began down those steps, pointing a finger back at her. He'd left that jacket around her shoulders.. he figured she needed the comfort more than he needed the warmth (and style).
