Day Four
Who: Dean Winchester & OTA
What: Day Four, beginning to realize...
When: Just after dawn
Where: Edge of the forest, nearest landmark: Carnival
Rating: R (always with the language)
Status: Complete

Dean had been walking for what felt like forever. His feet actually ached and his clothing was torn in various places from brambles, errant tree branches and who knew what else. He wasn't sure when he'd started walking but his eyes were slowly becoming accustomed to the light creeping across the treetops above him. It was still somewhat dark down there between the dense trees but he could see something ahead of him. A great, gleaming circle rising up into the air through the foliage.

Frowning, Dean ran a hand through his hair and a few dried and rustling leaves fluttered to the ground around him. He was all but trudging, dragging his feet at this point. It occurred to him with sudden clarity that he had no idea where he was or why he was there. He felt like he was trying to pull himself out of a long and sticky sleep that wanted to keep him buried in some fog of numbness. Something about that wasn't right and he knew it but his head was fuzzy. So damned fuzzy. He became aware of the fact that his stomach felt nauseated the further he slid forward on lazy feet. Perhaps whatever was up ahead had water somewhere inside. Or maybe there were people.

No. Not maybe. Somehow he knew there would be people somewhere. He didn't know how but that seemed stamped as a fact directly on his sluggish brain. He groaned as he stepped from the edge of the forest into a clearing filled with colorful booths and sunlight. The sun seemed to burn into his mind and he closed his eyes, rubbing them. "What the hell is going on?"

Frowning, Shannon watched as he scratched at his arm. That...didn't look good coupled with the fact that he had no idea who he was, even if he did remember the Doctor. He said he was dizzy and she wondered if the itching was an adverse reaction to having been injected with something. It all felt too much like Claire for Shannon's taste. After hearing about the way people had been left in the woods for dead. She wondered if maybe there were others who hadn't made it out and hadn't written in their journals so that she'd never even know they were there to be missing.

But, the way he'd described the Doctor as either a headcase or someone brilliant, it sounded about like the Doctor that she'd met. "I'm Shannon," she said softly, trying to help him with his sleeve. "I'm not gonna hurt you if you're not gonna try to hurt me," she added. With a soft sigh, she managed to push his sleeve the rest of the way up and was sadly unsurprised to find a bandage on his arm and her brow furrowed. A couple of inches radius coming out from beneath the bandage was bright red from his scratching.

Holding her skirt in place as she stood again, Shannon held a hand out to him. "Come on, there's a doctor. Not the Doctor, who, interestingly enough isn't actually a doctor at all. I hate to say it, but I'm pretty sure they plucked you for an experiment," she sighed. "Although, from what I hear, you've had it easier than some of the others. You're still in pretty good shape. Some of the others, from what I hear, not so much," she added. To clarify, she tacked on, "Sam thinks that we're all a bunch of lab rats. The longer I'm here, the more inclined I am to believe it. If you came with the Doctor, you've been here for three days. Well, this is the fourth."

Dean glanced curiously at the bandage as Shannon lifted his sleeve to reveal it. She was being helpful but to Dean it felt like she was somewhat impatient through it all. Maybe that was just the last vestiges of whatever had happened to him after he'd met the Doctor and before he'd found himself walking aimlessly through the trees. If he thought hard enough, he couldn't remember having started walking. He didn't think that would be the greatest tidbit of info to share with her though. She was very obviously skittish if nothing else. He wondered what had happened to her and felt a twinge of -- regret, was it? -- that he hadn't been able to protect her.

Odd thought to have. He'd never met her but instinctively he felt he should have been able to protect her and anyone else. He'd tried to protect the Doctor, as much as the guy had been stubborn. He could remember that at least. And the glass wall! They'd found a glass wall... Hence the Glass Cage. Okay, that made sense then, he guessed.

She held out her hand to him and he tilted his head and chuckled at her good-naturedly. He glanced down at himself, obviously meaning she should take note of his larger, more muscular physique and asked, "Seriously? If you can help me to my feet without breaking your arm, I will have to totally rethink my ideas on - Ow!" he growled and tore at the bandage on his arm. "If we're lab rats, what do you think they did to me here? And who is Sam?"
