Who: Lexie Grey and Open
What: Card playin', song singin', bird ignorin'
Where: The Gym
When: 2:30 PM
Rating: Who knows?

Status: Active

Relatively speaking the gym was quiet. Very quiet. Well, mostly because the kids were gone. That was something that was both startling and eerily welcomed by the brunette as she spent the day cleaning up after them. Forget Chris' attempts at making potions or the wrappers and juice boxes: this was a clinic and she was going to make it look like one again. Broom and towels and water made Lexie a happy girl as she willed away thoughts of Dean-Gone-Missing and scrubbed the floors and put away bottles and bandages. She had something to occupy her thoughts aside from neurotically checking her journal every fifteen minutes for some sign of life from Dean.

Eventually, she couldn't clean any more and she went back to work in her room, turning her bed and the shelves and the chair to make it look different. Another attempt at distraction. Another failed attempt. Damn you dried yellow flowers. Damn you pillow she imagined smelled like him. Damn it.

She tapped her toes. She rolled her eyes and eventually she tried to lay down and nap. No dice.

Well, when Lexie can't sleep there's only one thing to do, play cards until she goes cross eyed. Hey, it's better than scribbling all over the journal, right?

So, she pulled up a seat at that tiny table she'd made her own and she started flipping over cards in a game of solitaire, singing the lyrics to 'We Didn't Start the Fire' all along. "Lawrence of Arabia, British Beatle Mania.."

Elliot had managed to occupy herself that morning organizing one of the coaching offices across from the locker rooms. She'd come the night before to check up on Andy, afraid that the guy in the journals writing surfer speak was right about something bad happening. She'd been relieved to find that he and the other kids were fine, only to be scared to death again that morning when they'd gone missing. It hadn't been long before the kids that were now adults again started checking in, but it had still been stressful. Plus being in the museum reminded her of her first day in Vas. When she shut her eyes she could still see the bathroom tile crumbling under her feet, the sinks dropping and shattering, sending shards of porcelain everywhere. She could still hear Lexie yelling from her room. It made her nervous and she really wished that the frickin' birds would go away so she could go back to the small but relative safety of Andy's van. In some ways she felt like it was her version of Lexie's room, just with a really testosterone driven design scheme.

She had emerged from the coach's office to get a drink of water when she passed the snack bar and stopped. She hadn't had a chance to talk to Lexie, not really anyway, in a long time. Deciding to hold off on her drink she stepped into the snack bar area and made her way back to Lexie's door. It was open and she caught the sound of chanting as she walked up to it.

"Hey," she said, giving Lexie a small smile. "You changed things around."

"Old Miss, John Glenn--" She would have continued, but she was too busy jumping from the sound of somebody at the doorway to her room. Settling back down with a relieved sigh she realized it was Elliot. "You have no idea how much you scared me," she admitted with a shake of her head and bashful smile.

"Yeah, thought the place could use a little redecorating," if you could call having all the same stuff in different places redecorating. "Had to do something aside from worry," she said quietly, kicking out the chair on the other side of her makeshift card table to the side. "Up for some cards?" She was already cleaning up her last failed attempt at solitaire, shuffling the deck as she offered her friend a welcoming smile.

Elliot caught the jump and realized too late that she'd snuck up on her friend. Elliot winced, leaning up against the door. "Sorry."

"Well, it looks good," Elliot said, looking sympathetic when Lexie said she was worried. She moved forward and sat down in the chair across from Lexie. She gave Lexie a smile in return and nodded. "Sure. Don't know many card games though. Speed, Go Fish, Old Maid...which was exactly what my mother used to say I'd be if I didn't stop eating my feelings."

She scooted the chair in closer. "So, no word on Dean?"
