Day 19, Morning
Who: Elliot Reid and Andy Gallagher
What: Wakey, Wakey
Where: The Van near the Church
When: Day 19, Morning
Rating: PG
Status: Complete

Elliot wasn't sure what woke her, but it was with a sigh of relief that she opened her eyes and spotted Andy's velvet tiger print on the inside of the van. At least she hadn't been pulled for the day's torture. Not that it was a huge relief, considering that she knew there would be others who were less lucky. She rolled over and looked at Andy's form buried under the blankets. She could see a small bit of hhair poking up from the top of his blankets. At least he hadn't been pulled either.

She stretched in the small space of the van and looked around for her journal. There was no use putting off looking in it to see what horrors had already happened or awaited them outside the safety of the van. She spotted it piled on top of some books behind the driver's side. She crawled over, trying to reach for it over Andy's sleeping form without waking him. All she managed to do was get two fingers on it before sending the books toppling. Andy's form stirred under the blankets and Elliot scrunched up her nose.

"Sorry, sorry," she said, reaching over him to pick up one or two of the other books. "I was just trying to get to my…" Elliot's throat stopped working as warm brown eyes looked up at her. She screamed and threw herself back against the other side of the van. Tiny hands emerged from underneath the blanket and she had to force herself not to hyperventilate. Tiny hands creeped her out. Tiny hands really creeped her out. What was more disturbing at the moment though, was that the kid in front of her was wearing an exact miniature version of Andy's clothes. What the frick?

"Who are you?" She asked, her voice so high and squeaky that it sounded almost hoarse. She refused to entertain for even a second that this could be the same Andy Gallagher, only much younger. Because that was absurd. Impossible. Unthinkable.

"Maybe there is. I hope so; it's my favorite," the little boy replied with the aforementioned hope in his eyes and smile. When Elliot didn't move right away, Andy tipped his head slightly to the side and watched her. Finally, she said that she was going to drive them to the pharmacy and then she'd take him to the gym to play. Andy grinned. "I get to ride in the back?!" he asked excitedly. Oh man that was so cool!

Andy's small face wrinkled up in disgust. "No, Splinter," he repeated. "The rat, you know? The leader," he explained in a voice that told her - as much as the rolled eyes showed her - how ridiculous he thought it was that she didn't already know that. "Don't you know?" he asked bluntly after a short pause.

"We'll keep an eye out for it," Elliot promised as she moved towards the front of the van. She slipped between the seats and into the driver's side. She looked back at Andy's excited grin and suddenly remembered what Rose had told her. "Oh, no," she said, waving him forward. "You've got to sit up here with me and the seat belts."

Elliot stared at Andy a little shocked by his bluntness. "No," she said, feeling as if she'd just flunked some important exam.

"K," Andy replied happily when she said that they'd keep an eye out for Count Chocula. They'd probably find some. It was the best cereal in the whole universe, after all, so it'd be stupid if they didn't have any. When Elliot went back on the idea that he was going to be riding in the back of the van, he furrowed his brow, crossed his arms and pouted. "You said I could!" he snapped grumpily.

The fact that Elliot didn't know who Splinter was was almost too much for him to process in his mind. He blinked back at her and made a face. "Everybody knows the Ninja Turtles and everybody who knows the Ninja Turtles knows Splinter," he replied matter-of-factly, the duuuuhhh! tone not at all hidden for her benefit.

Elliot raised her eyebrows. Was she seriously getting attitude from mini-Andy? "Well, I was wrong," Elliot said, her tone getting firm. "Look, you have to sit up here because there are seat belts. It's safer. Isn't being safe fun?"

She patted the passenger seat beside her and then blinked when he told her that everyone had heard of Splinter. "Not me," Elliot argued, not liking the fact that she was being talked down to by a kindergartner.

"Why don't you tell me about him?" Elliot asked.

Andy gave Elliot a grunt of annoyance and stamped one of his feet. "You said I could ride back here!" he shrieked, ignoring her suggestion that safety was fun. No it wasn't. Safety was boring. Danger was fun. Adventure was fun. Riding in the back of a van was fun.

His brow knit deeply when she patted the passenger seat and he finally made his way up there, throwing himself violently down into it just to make sure she knew how angry he was that he couldn't do what she'd said first. His arms were crossed over his chest again and he stared straight ahead as his tiny hands balled into fists. He made no further comment about the fact that Elliot was apparently the only person in the free world who didn't know who Splinter and the Ninja Turtles were. "No, never mind," he muttered, frowning and staring out the windshield grumpily.

Elliot's eyes widened at Andy's reaction to her and she gave a small huff. See, this was exactly why she wasn't good with kids. "I was wrong," Elliot said again. She sighed. "Andy, come on," she said, a slight pleading tone working it's way into her voice.

He finally made his way to the front and threw himself down in the seat that she usually occupied. He crossed his arms over his chest and Elliot reached past his balled up fists to pull the seat belt down across him as he told her to forget about Splinter.

She paused, leaning in to kiss his cheek lightly before pulling back and starting up the car. She didn't know why it bothered her so much, having a six year old mad at her, except somewhere down in there was Andy and she didn't like the idea of Andy being mad at her.

She took in a deep breath and pulled the van onto the dirt road before heading towards the Pharmacy.
