What cruel tricks these are, what the gods do now even after I have given all, to drag me from the gates of the Underworld where I might find the peace that has eluded me.

What more can they need? Let me be aristos achaion no longer. And I do not care for these tricks and glamours.

Maybe wait on the glitter until he's convinced his boyfriend is his boyfriend.

Do you think he'll BE convinced? All I remember about this guy is that he's hardheaded and fights everyone.

Hard-headed but it probably depends on what way it all leans? He doesn't look like Brad Pitt, so at least there's that. In the Iliad and books usually based around it, there's no one more important to him than Patroclus, but coming back from the dead is disorientating at best, let alone coming from their equivalent of heaven where he thought he could be at peace, to end up here.

I guess that makes sense. I forget the Underworld isn't Purgatory. It always fucking reads like it is.

I know it makes me a heretic but I like the general idea of the Greek Underworld. Tartarus is the closest to purgatory, but then there's the middle ground. The medium places, like the Mourning Fields and Asphodel Meadows - if you didn't commit crimes but lived a fairly ordinary life, you went to the latter. If you wasted your life on unrequited love, then to the mourning fields for you. Heroic types like Achilles (and Patroclus, I assume) went to Elysium to have a comfortable afterlife.

The unrequited one is a little fucked up. Isn't it punishment enough to fall in love with someone who doesn't love you back? Now you have to spend eternity with a bunch of unlovable people just like you?

My understanding of it was that it was only the ones who spend their life pursuing that love from someone who doesn't reciprocate. It might be cruel for some but in a lot of cases, it's probably the same men who claim they were friend-zoned. They can all torture each other together.

Well fine, but that's not actually love. Those kind of guys wouldn't know love if it kicked them in the balls.

I agree, but to them, it is. They haven't done anything to warrant Tartarus, so minor punishment to remind them of their loneliness being their own doing? The whole thing is less of a strong divide like Heaven/Hell and more nuanced.

The medium place thing is kinda nice, I guess. For a heathen belief.

Well, yeah. I wasn't gonna go bother him NOW. Just like...later. When he's not sad or potentially murderous.
