Adam Milligan + Dean Winchester
Morningside Manor
Hey, bro.
PG | IN PROGRESS

Originally, he had been thinking that moving in with Adam wasn't the best of ideas. Sure, this particular Michael wasn't a raging homicidal maniac like the other one. But, he was still a little bitter over the fact that Michael had wiped his mother's memory away, ensuring she would walk in on Azazel and end up dying. Even though Dean had warned her not to. No, it wasn't his fault, but he was tired of being played by angels in any side. The only one he really trusted was Castiel, and even he had betrayed his trust before. In the end, Adam was his brother, and he wasn't going to cast him aside like garbage. He had already left him behind once, and he wanted this time to be different.

After officially claiming the room in the apartment he had been given a key and he made his way up to the 8th floor. The place was pretty impressive and it was hard to believe it was all free of charge. Before letting himself in, Dean knocked at the door and announced himself before unlocking the door and stepping inside. "Yo, Adam, it's Dean. You here?"

Dean wasn't the only one who had his misgivings about the idea. Michael had been very vocal about just how much he hated the idea. They had helped the Winchesters, given them the information they needed for their impending fight against Chuck, they'd even opened a portal into Purgatory for Dean and Castiel. As far as he was concerned they were finished with the Winchesters. He had only softened, only backed down a little when Adam reminded him that Dean was still family.

Maybe he hadn't forgiven him (or Sam) for leaving him behind and forgetting he existed but Dean was still his brother. Besides, Vallo seemed to be good about second chances and something like safety. Maybe he could actually get to know his brother here and they could stop being strangers who shared a father. He supposed he'd like that. He'd always wanted a brother.

Seeing that he was unable to change his vessel's mind, Michael had gone silent on the subject after reminding Adam that he would be watching. Adam simply rolled his eyes. He took a deep breath at the sound of Dean's voice and stepped out of the room he'd claimed for himself. "I'm here." He said, offering the older man a smile. "It's a pretty impressive place they give you, right? When I first moved in I was expecting the something the size of a dorm room."

"Oh, hey." Dean looked over at Adam upon seeing him and returned the smile with a slight wave. Awkward, yes, this was just awkward. He was hesitant to make a move, but he walked over to the other man and reached out to give him a quick hug, patting his hand against his back. "Yeah, totally, much more awesome than I expected." He agreed with a nod, stepping back from his brother.

He had looked after Sammy from such an early age that protecting him was ingrained in him, it was second nature. Even though Adam was his younger brother, it was a little difficult to just jump in, especially since he had abandoned him early on. He knew very little about him, other than the fact he wanted to be a nurse. "It's way more upscale than most of the motel rooms I've stayed in. I was always cool with that until we got the bunker and then, when I was, you know-" he paused a moment to clear his throat and began playing with his hands nervously. "Michael. He was much more high maintenance so I stayed in a lot of suites and stuff like that." Not to mention he always made him dress like a stiff.

"I've certainly come a long way from sleazy motels, that's for sure." He laughed awkwardly and turned to look over the place he would be living in for the foreseeable future. "Do you cook at all, or do you usually go for take out instead?"

This was awkward. Really awkward. There was just no way around the feeling. The two of them had only met a couple of times and neither of those times had really ended too great. They were still strangers. What Adam knew about Dean and Sam he had learned from the angels who had resurrected him, a few brief conversations, and Michael. While it didn't actually paint a very pretty picture of his older brothers he was able to infer a few things from what he had learned. He'd been smart enough to figure out that, maybe, his brothers weren't the best people but they were good people who always tried to be on the right side of things.

He didn't hate them. He wasn't sure he could forgive being left in Hell for that long so easily but he didn't hate Dean for it. The eldest Winchester had apologized and that meant something. It was enough for Adam to decide that he would like to get to know Dean better and try and build some form of a relationship. Maybe they'd never be close but they didn't have to be strangers. Even with that on his mind, however, the hug was still unexpected. A little awkward. Adam returned it because he understood it had to be just as awkward for Dean. He wasn't about to leave his brother hanging.

"I... don't know if this Michael's the same." He said, frowning a little. They hadn't spent the night in a hotel before the Winchesters had captured them. If he had to guess, he would assume that he was. Michael had often lamented the clothing that Adam preferred. Adam had no intention of pleasing him and dressing like the other angels. If Michael wanted a suit he could get a new vessel. "But, yeah, this isn't as nice as bunker but it's completely different from the last place I remember you staying in."

He frowned a little at the question about cooking. He didn't need to eat or sleep because of Michael. He indulged in a few of these things because he liked the way things tasted and sleep was nice. It also helped him feel normal. He needed that more than he wanted to admit. "Since getting back I've done a lot of take out but... I can cook. Mom was a nurse. She wasn't home a lot so I had to learn to provide for myself when she couldn't be there."

"Nah, I don't really think they are much of the same. I guess yours is a little cooler." Dean admitted with a soft chuckle. It was a strange relationship dynamic between him and Adam. He was used to being the protector as the older brother, it was something he had always done for Sam. Growing up it had mainly been Sam and himself, Dean having the responsibility of looking out for the well being of his younger brother. Now he had another younger brother, but he was already old enough to take care of himself. Plus, he was attached to an archangel and Michael was far more capable of looking out for Adam than he was.

He was glad that Adam hadn't rejected the hug, but he could tell it was just as uncomfortable for him as well. "After we moved into the bunker I started cooking more. It's got a huge kitchen, so I figured, why not? Surprisingly, I kind of enjoy it and I like to think I'm getting pretty good at it." With all that was in his head, Dean had forgotten that food wasn't necessary for Adam.

His fingers trailed over the top of the couch as he stood there awkwardly, trying to figure out what to say. "The one thing that sucks about this place is that I don't have baby, my car. I guess I don't really need the arsenal of weapons in the back seat, but, I will still miss being out on the open road. I guess that's not much of a problem for you, getting around, I mean."

"Wait. Did you just give Michael a compliment?" He asked staring at Dean in bewilderment. He really was trying here. Adam appreciated that more than he wanted to admit. He chuckled a little and had to smile. "I wouldn't give him too much credit. He hates the way I dress."

Their relationship was bound to be an odd one. The two of them would have to figure out how they fit into each other's lives here. Adam was more than capable of taking care of himself and, now, he had Michael. Being attached to the archangel came with benefits. He hadn't been trained to hunt, he didn't know what was weak against what but he didn't have to. Michael would step in whenever he needed to. He already had once with Lilith. He was sure there were other things he needed that he couldn't get from his relationship with Michael but that sort of thing would have to wait until he and Dean were more comfortable with each other. He couldn't really confide anything in Dean until he felt like he could trust him.

"If you want to take over kitchen duties I'm not going to argue with it." He laughed. "I'm sure what we have here is tiny compared to the bunker but it's not that bad." He said. Adam didn't need to eat but he didn't want to rely completely on Michael to keep him alive either. If something happened, if the two were forcefully separated, he didn't want to deal with whatever might happen because he neglected to eat or sleep. "I'm actually pretty terrible at cooking anyway."

Things were getting a little awkward again but he refused to think this was a bad idea. Dean was his brother. Sure, there was a reason they had never been told about each other or allowed to meet before but there was no reason for the two of them to remain strangers. "Your car might still show up." He said with a shrug. "This place is weird. We aren't the only ones who end up pulled through... whatever it was. Objects come through, too. Whole buildings. The bunker might even show up and then you can show off the kitchen." He didn't get a chance to see much of it while being held there. Obviously, he didn't blame them for not giving him a tour.

"Back home we could just go wherever. I was going to talk him into a little travelling before finding a place to just lie low, you know? Find a job, blend in. It's different here. I don't think we can really travel outside of Vallo. Mike can't even open us a portal somewhere else and I know he did that pretty easily back in the bunker."

"Eh, I don't know that I would call it a compliment per se, but it is something, I guess. But, dude, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the way you dress. Comfort casual with jeans and all the flannel you can find is my style." Dean shrugged casually and tucked both hands into his pockets, idly strolling around the apartment. "I had way less control, so I didn't have much of a choice in what to wear. He was totally a stubborn fucking bastard, that's for sure." It had been a struggle to maintain control finally, and thankfully, Jack had been able to smite the psychotic bastard.

"Buildings and objects just randomly show up?" He stopped to consider that for a moment and nodded slowly. "That would be pretty fucking awesome if either of those things showed up. If baby does show up, I'll have to take you for a ride, and, if the bunker somehow pops up too, you'll be welcome to move in. Totally up to you, of course."

Dean finally moved to drop down onto the couch and leaned back, stretching his legs outward. "Yeah, being able to open up portals is a pretty neat trick." He lifted his arms to tuck them under his head, making himself comfortable on the couch. He couldn't sit there and playfully banter with Adam like he might have done with Sam, but, hopefully, they would get to that point.
