Are we going to need a phone-booth?

Why, you got a cut-off shirt laying around?

When you go back in time to fix what's broken, how do you know your interference won't cause more problems or have unintended consequences?

Short of it? You don't. We fucked up all the time. Sara and Ray have far more experience with actual damage control than I ever did.

Not exactly reassuring. But I also appreciate the directness.

It's just, being what I am, I have the best chance of remembering this place if I'm ever sent back. And apparently one of my friends is going to die after I get back and I can't not try to stop that.

So any and all advice is appreciated.

You're worried about something that hasn't even happened yet back home? Is your friend here now?

He is. He’s from after it happened. So is everyone else. Which means I’m in a unique position to do something about it.

Ray's right, luv, there are some things you can't change. Sorry.

Is trial error the only way to know? I need something more than "sorry" here to go on.

If I knew, believe me I'd tell you. There are things I'd love to change in my own past.

This is definitely something Sara has more experience with and, I'm sorry to say, you won't like the answer. There's just some points in the timeline you can't change.

Okay but how can you tell what points can be changed and what points can’t?

Ray is right. The answer isn't one you will like. Some deaths can be avoided. Some are fixed points in time and can't be changed.

Okay but what makes something a fixed point versus something that can be changed?

You...can't? At least, we can't. Sometimes Gideon could tell us if something was fixed. Gideon was our ship's AI. But I think it depends on how much the death of a person's death impacts the world. My father and I were supposed to die at the same time as my sister. When I was plucked from the timeline and ended up our ship, it changed my fate, but that didn't have much of an impact other than to save my father. My sister still died, and I can't change that, because her death leads to so many other things happening. I Captain a timeship, but I can never bring back my sister.

I didn't realize. I'm sorry, Sara. But it sounds like there is a way to get around

You don't have anything to be sorry for. The point is, not everything can be fixed. Some deaths can be, yes. Some can't. The multi-verse ended and restarted and I didn't get my sister back. But, other people did come back. So there's no solid answer. I can't tell you how big a role your friend plays in the grand scheme of things. But I'm sorry you lost him in your world.

I don't suppose Gideon is here? To get her professional opinion? Do whatever calculation it is that she does to make that determination?

G's built into the Waverider and the Waverider isn't here. Ray's trying to build me something similar to help with work, but it won't have the same capabilities.

Basically, we're told not to change time unless something is out of place. There are some loopholes, but you have to be careful. Sometimes you can screw things up for the better, sometimes there can be total devastation.

Was one of them a cut-off shirt? Because I might feel like I missed out.
