PG • Halloween night • Their Home
The last of the kids had come and gone and Eliot shut off the porch light then locked the front door. "That was fun," he grinned walking up to Quentin and kissing him. "Are you ready for some pizza, a movie and snuggles? I could also go for a glass of wine. Come on." He took Quentin's hand and led him to the kitchen sitting the half full bowl of candy on the counter beside the cupcakes he'd made earlier. "Why don't you pour us some wine and I'll put the pizza in the oven." He'd made sure to preheat the oven so they wouldn't have to wait. They finished making the pizza earlier as well and once it was unwrapped he slid it in the oven and set the timer.
He took one of the glasses of wine and clinked it against Quentin's. "Happy Halloween, my beautiful angel," he smiled then took a drink.
Handing out candy to all the kids in costumes had been more fun than Quentin had honestly expected. Sure he had liked the idea of it, but actually doing it was oddly satisfying. Maybe it was the feeling of domesticity that had done it for him. Maybe it was the adorable costumes. Maybe it was just being with Eliot that made it so much fun for him. Who knew. He didn’t and he wasn’t going to take the time to figure it out. He was just going to enjoy the night, especially now that it was just going to be them and at least one creepy movie.
“It really was!” He eyed the bowl with the leftover candy and nodded. “We should stock up on chocolates. It’s all going to be on sale tomorrow” And caramels maybe, there had been a recipe he found that he wanted to try. It called for caramel, and he wasn’t sure he was brave enough to try and make his own. Yet. He leaned up for that kiss then settled back onto his heels and nodded. “Pizza, snuggles and movies sounds like plan.” Once they were in the kitchen he moved to get the wine poured and waited for Eliot to finish up.
Quentin still had that odd feeling when Eliot of all people called him beautiful but he clinked glasses and smiled. “Happy Halloween, my favourite devil.” Horny devil? He could dream. After taking a sip of the wine he leaned against the counter and glanced at the oven then back to him. “Should we wait for the pizza to cook or start the movie? I picked a couple different ones, depends if you want vampires, werewolves or just something kinda silly. I’ve got Le the Right One In, Dog Soldiers and Frighteners.” HE hoped he picked some good ones, but he did have back ups in case Eliot didn’t like any of the options.
"We can go shopping for half priced chocolate tomorrow if you'd like. Maybe see if there's any decor we like that's on sale." They didn't decorate a lot, but he liked having some things out to set the mood of fall and spooky season.
Eliot took another sip of wine and smiled at being called Quentin's favorite devil. "We should start the movie. The pizza will take about twenty five minutes." He thought for a moment before speaking again. "You pick the movie. I'm okay with any of them." He wasn't really picky about the movies they'd watch as long as they had some scare in them. It was Halloween night after all. He nudged Quentin then moved back to the living room and sat on the couch. He watched Quentin get the movie ready then slid his arm around him once he joined him on the couch. "If you get scared it's okay to hold my hand," he teased grinning.
"Something to think about...I've been thinking about Thanksgiving. I was thinking we could cook and see if Abigail wants to come over. If she doesn't have other plans. Maybe see if she wants to come over and cook with us since she enjoys that."
"I'm sure there will be loads of things on sale tomorrow." He was totally in it for the candy, but if Eliot found something he liked then even better. He wasn't sure what kind of decor Eliot had in mind, but he knew it would be great. The man really did have an eye for that sort of thing. Better than Quentin's anyway.
"You should know better than to leave the movie picking entirely up to me, Sir." He laughed and headed back to the living room. He had honestly spent a lot of time narrowing the choices down to just the three. There were just so many good horror movies. He wondered if he should have gone with something neither of them had ever seen before but it was too late now. Or maybe it wasn't. HE could easily ask, but he really wanted to watch all three of the movies again. He thought about it for a minute then started Dog Soldiers. "It's been longer since I've seen this one." He set his wine on the coffee table then settled in beside Eliot and snuggled into his side. He shook his head. "I'll just cling a bit more than usual." Sure he'd seen the movie before, but he knew there would be parts when he'd likely just turn and hide his face in Eliot's shoulder.
"Is it really already almost Thanksgiving?" He glanced up at Eliot. Sure November started the next day, but questions about Thanksgiving felt like they came right out of the blue. It always did. Every single year. He loved the idea of having Abigail over though. "And maybe Fen? She's still all by herself really." She had been nice and reached out to him a few times since he'd landed in Vallo, even if they hadn't quite managed to catch up with each other yet. He should look into that soon in fact.
"I trust you," Eliot assured him. No pressure. This was going to a relaxed evening of them spending time together. Something that sounded so good to him. "Good choice," he said when they movie began. He gave Quentin a squeeze and nuzzled against him once he was settled against him. "Well, you know I won't complain about you clinging to me or using me to hide your eyes," he grinned. He could already imagine the other hiding his eyes and burrowing further into his side.
"Mmhm, it's on the twenty fourth which will be here before you know it." It was one of those Holidays that seemed to come earlier every year event though it didn't. "We can invite her, but I imagine she will already have plans." She had friends she'd known for long time in Vallo and she would probably have plans with them. "But we can definitely reach out and ask her." Eliot focused back on the movie. It had been a while since he'd seen it as well. They hadn't been watching too long when the buzzer on the oven went off. "Be a good boy and get the pizza for us. And bring the wine bottle back with you."
Someone who knew his eclectic tastes trusted him to pick a movie? What kind of topsy turvy world was this? But Eliot seemed to like it and Quentin was enjoying the snuggling. “I hope not!” He smiled and turned his head to kiss the crook of his neck then turned his attention back to the film. It was a really good movie, but it didn’t take very long before he was tucking himself even more snugly into Eliot’s side so he could turn his head into his shoulder again. Just in case he needed to.
“Ugh. It’s coming pretty early this year. We better get the menu decided soon so we can get everything we’ll need. And a headcount.” They already had three with Abigail, maybe four if Fen decided to join them. “Turkey is obvious, unless you want something else?” He flinched when the timer coincided with a jump scare on the film then laughed and shook his head. “Ok that was good timing.” He leaned his head up and kissed Eliot’s jaw. “Yes, Sir.” Quentin stood up and made his way back to the kitchen to get their dinner out of the oven. He let it sit on the counter while he walked the bottle of wine back out to Eliot. He topped off their glasses then left the bottle. “Be right back.” He smiled then disappeared into the kitchen and came back out with a couple of plates with their pizza. “How much did I miss?”
Eliot grinned and gave Quentin a squeeze. Scary movies didn't really bother him unless they were really gory or ones that could happen in real life. Like home invasion movies. Those got to him because the were more likely to happen and the thought of someone breaking in and hiding inside freaked him out. He pressed a kiss to Quentin's temple. "I got you, boo." He chuckled softly and pulled the other a little closer.
"It does feel that way. Just like Easter. We can start making the menu tomorrow then go shopping at the weekend. Turkey is good with me. Gobble gobble!" He tickled Quentin's side and laughed. He laughed again when Quentin jumped at the oven buzzer going off. "It was perfect timing." He gave Quentin's ass a light swat when he stood up then grinned at him. He reached for the remote and paused the movie. Reaching for his wine he took a long sip then sat it back down.
Before he knew Quentin brought the wine followed by their pizza. "Thank you, beautiful. You didn't miss a thing. I paused it like a good boyfriend." He took one of the plates then started the movie again.
Quentin loved scary movies of all kinds really. He just didn't watch certain kinds all that often. Sure he liked the tension and jump scares, but he didn't like it when he was alone. So having Eliot there to snuggle when those happened was the best way to watch this particular movie in his opinion. Any excuse to snuggle was a good one in his book. "I know you do. Just like I got you when you need it." At least that was how things worked in his mind.
"We will have to get a lot of it now." He wondered if the turkeys were even out in stores yet. He hadn't seen them. Before he could voice that thought Eliot was poking his side and he laughed. "Stop!" He half-heartedly pushed the man's hands away, but it was just for show. He secretly liked it. Or not so secretly, whatever. It was right up there with the playful smack he got as he walked away. He wondered how to bring that up again but by the time he got settled back down the thought had passed again.
He smiled and leaned over for a quick kiss, mindful of the plates. "The best boyfriend ever." Quentin would defend that opinion to anyone who might argue it with him. Eliot was the best boyfriend he'd ever had. To be fair, he was the only boyfriend Q had ever had, but that didn't make it less true. Sure their relationship had bumps, but they always worked through them.
"Never!" Eliot said then cackled and went to tickle Quentin's side again. "You love it," he teased as the other walked away. Some things still felt uncertain so Eliot tried to keep things on the lighter side when it came to such things. Maybe they needed to talk again at some point, but he wasn't sure. He felt like Quentin was over talking about things and if he was honest, he couldn't read him very well about a lot of things when it came to that part of them. He made a face then shook his head. He didn't want to be thinking about that stuff. They had a good day and the evening was going the same and he wanted to keep it that way.
A smile curved his lips. "Yes, yes, I am." He winked. He wasn't the best boyfriend ever, but he could appreciate the words and sentiment. Eliot took a bite of the pizza. "Mmm, we did good," he smiled. "I would suggest we open a pizza place if there weren't already some well established ones here." That and running a restaurant seemed like a lot of work and they didn't need longer work hours.
They settled in watching the movie and eating pizza. It was so domestic and warm cozy cuddled up on the couch, keeping the Halloween frights at bay. A few times he felt Quentin flinch and bury his eyes in his shoulder. He just grinned and gave him a squeeze.
Quentin called over his shoulder as he walked out of the room. "You can't prove that!" Even if he knew it was super obvious.
The night was going well as far as he could tell. Eliot was in a good mood. The pizza had come out good. They had a good movie on and he was getting his nightly cuddles in. Best night he'd had in a long while. he loved that he was able to just sit and enjoy the movie and the company. "Besides that, I don't think either one of us has the patience to run a restaurant." He knew he didn't. There was just way too much involved in that kind of venture.
He finished his slice then settled back into Eliot's side, resisting the urge to hide his face for at least a couple of the scarier moments. He didn't move when the credits started to roll. "I had forgotten how good that movie really was. I remember the first time I saw it I was not expecting much from it." First time he'd seen it he'd been with friends who were having a werewolf movie night. It was the best one out of the bunch in his opinion. Finally he sat up and reached for the remote to turn it off. "The question of the night is, do we have the energy for one more movie? OR should we call it a night?" He had the energy for a short movie, maybe. OR they could go to bed and find better ways to end the night.
"Please! I don't need to prove the obvious!" He called out laughing a bit. Some things were just so obvious about Quentin and others, well, he kept them tucked away. There were times Eliot wished he could read his mind, but in reality he probably wouldn't like it. Someone needed to invent selective mind reading.
Eliot munched on pizza while they finished watching the movie. "That was actually my first time seeing that. It was alright." He wasn't a big fan of werewolf or zombie movies, but the movie didn't matter when they were spending time together. "We can't go to bed!" Eliot declared. "It's too early and I made Halloween cupcakes just for tonight. We have to have one." Although finding better ways to end their night was tempting, he was enjoying movies and snuggling. "Why don't you go grab us a couple of the cupcakes and I'll put on one of the other movies. If you get tired then we can go to bed." He'd worked hard on them though and was going to eat one. "Pleasssse." He made puppy dog eyes and stuck out his lower lip to look as cute and sad as possible. "Just one cupcake."
He was just glad Eliot hadn't hated the movie. "There's apparently a sequel but I've never seen it." He shifted to sit up and looked over with a smile. "I didn't say anything about being tired, or sleeping, Sir." Quentin leaned over to steal a kiss then pulled away and stood up. "But cupcakes first." HE collected their plates and glasses then disappeared into the kitchen.
He took a minute to wash and dry their plates then turned to grab them each a cupcake. "The fuck..." Quentin had seen some weird shit in his day, but this was a whole new level of weird. On the counter, marching like they were on a mission were the cupcakes. Then he felt something hit the back of his head and turned to see a row of candies lined up and throwing each other at him. And for little bitty candies, they were strong! "Hey! That hurt!" Wait was he really arguing with candies?
Eliot arched a brow and tilted his head after the kiss. "Oh? Did I misinterpret your words?" He grinned then watched the other walk away before he looked at the two remaining movies. He was going with "Let The Right One In". It was an interesting take on the vampire story. Before he could start the movie he heard Quentin shout. Had he just said that hurt? He looked around wondering if one of the cats had followed him into the kitchen was begging for food.
He stood to go check. He'd give Houdini and Midnight some extra treats. It was Halloween night after all. Eliot entered the kitchen and came a screeching halt where he stood. "What the hell??" He blinked his eyes a few times, but there was no mistaking that he was looking at marching cupcakes and flying candy. Before he could speak again he watch a flurry of candy wrappers fly through the air before he was suddenly being bombarded by fun size chocolate bars.
"Hey! What's going on?" This was weird even by their standards. He ducked down. "Q, is this some sort of Halloween trick? Did you enchant the cupcakes and candy as a joke?"
"Maybe a little." He winked before turning around to walk into the kitchen. He had high hopes for how the night would end, and they did not involve getting assaulted by sweets. He swatted a few out of the candies out of the air before they hit him in the face. He turned toward the sound when Eliot spoke and yelped when several of the candies flew into the side of his head. "OUCH!"
This might be someone's idea of a joke but it was not his. HE shook his head and swatted more more out of the air. "No. Why would...." He didn't get to finish his sentence when one of the cupcakes was launched at his open mouth. Being caught off-guard he started choking on it but managed to swallow some and spit out the rest.
Maybe they had wandered into a dream. A nightmare? Whatever was going on was nuts! His eyes went wide as he watched a cupcake fling itself at Quentin right into his mouth. In a flash he stood up and was pelted in the face and chest by more chocolate bars. He swatted them away throwing them to the floor as he ran over to Quentin.
He grabbed the cupcake that had been trying to choke him? Kill him? He wasn't sure and it didn't matter. He threw it to the floor and smashed it beneath his shoe. "Are you okay?" His eyes moved wildly over Quentin. This all seemed to have pissed off the other cupcakes who were marching toward them while the candy bars were starting their air bombing again.
"Is this Vallo fuckery?" He ducked still swatting at the candy. "We have to get out of here." Which was a comical thought for a moment, running from cupcakes and candy, but these things weren't messing around. If it was Vallo it would end...well, whenever it did. Eliot also thought about using battle magic, but didn't thinking it was such a good idea inside their home.
Quentin had no idea what the hell was going on other than somehow the cupcakes and candies had come to life to attack them. He shrugged and turned his head away to spit out more of the cupcake that was still in his mouth. "I'm okay...I think." He hadn't gotten any frosting in his nose or that could have turned into a whole different kind of problem. He ducked then swatted another bar away before it hit Eliot in the face. Why were they only aiming at their faces?
"I'm sure it is." Vallo shit was some crazy shit and he'd only been there a few months. He didn't know how much more of this he could take. He looked around for a way out, which should have been easy. It wasn't a huge room after all, but somehow there were more cupcakes and pastries coming at them. Where did they all come from? "How many cupcakes did you even make? There's like a whole freaking army in here." He looked behind Eliot and his eyes went wide before he grabbed Eliot's arm and pulled him to the side just in time to keep him from getting pelted by half a dozen pastries of various sizes.
Eliot suddenly laughed out loud when Quentin slapped away a cupcake that was heading straight for his face. His hand flew to his mouth. It wasn't funny, but it was. It was actually ridiculous. Pastries and candy attacking them on Halloween of all nights. But they weren't giving up. That was the problem and no one could say when or how this would end if it was Vallo's doing.
It seemed every time he looked around there were more of them. Where were they coming from?! "I only made a dozen cupcakes. It's like the fuckers are breeding!" Eliot looked down when he felt something on his leg. "Oh hell no!" There were several of the mini candy bars climbing up his pant leg. He kicked his leg then swatted them off grabbing one and actually throwing it against the wall. It seemed to have no affect on it. It bounced off the wall and began marching back toward them.
"I say we make a run for the living room then put wards all over the kitchen. We can deal with any that get out. What do you think?" He looked to Quentin.
It would be hilarious if he wasn't sure their lives were in actual danger. Turning into costumes was one thing, and kinda fun. This? This was a whole different level of wacky shite and he did not like it. Not even a little bit. "This is ridiculous!" He kicked a few cupcakes across the room when they got close enough and nodded at the suggestion. "It's the best shot we have!" The only thing he wasn't sure of was if he could run fast enough that they could get the distance they'd need before they had to cast.
Quentin swatted a few more of the candies out of the air then looked over at Eliot. "OK. You ready to make a run for it?" He wasn't sure that he was, but he didn't exactly have a choice. He waited until Eliot was ready then took his hand and ran with him out of the room. Once they were out of the room he let go and turned around so he could start setting the wards to keep them in the kitchen. He just hoped they wouldn't find a way around them.
This was all beyond ridiculous at this point and Eliot had had enough. He swatted away more of the candy that wasn't going away and was relieved Quentin was on board with his plan. "I'm ready," he nodded. He held tightly to Quentin's hand and they hauled ass out of the kitchen into the living room almost coming to a screeching halt. He began helping to ward up the kitchen, but saw that a few of the candy bars had slipped through. He quickly ran over and quickly stomped on them.
His gaze moved around the rest of the room to make sure nothing else had slipped by as Quentin finished up the wards. "That was insane." He walked back over to the other and reached for his hand. "You okay? The wards seem to be working." Nothing was breaking through. "Maybe they just like the kitchen," he grinned. "Nah, you're wards are solid like Fort Knox. Nothings coming through them." He sighed. "Hopefully this will all be over soon. Though it seems like we're going to have a lovely mess to clean up," he said with sarcasm. "We've got magic though. Piece of cake."
Quentin kept his focus on getting the wards up while Eliot took care of the handful of candies that had managed to get out of the kitchen. Once he had the wards up he stepped back and sighed. "I hope those hold." He laced their fingers together then shifted to lean into Eliot's side. "They better not think they are gonna move into it." He tried to laugh but he just couldn't find the energy for it. He did manage a small smile. "Hopefully the wards will hold until they die or go back to cupcakes or whatever they are going to do."
He did a quick check of the wards then nodded to himself and tugged on Eliot's hand to get him to follow. "All that's left is to sit back and wait this out. No telling how long it is going to last." He didn't think it would last for much longer. But really it was anyone's guess. He hadn't been there long enough to know how long Vallo-weirdness usually lasted. Quentin led them over to the couch and fell into it with a heavy sigh. "Magic does come in handy here."
"No one or nothing is moving into our kitchen except maybe Houdini or Kismet." He chuckled softly. "I can't believe they slept through all of this." He shifted and moved to wrap his arms around Quentin. "Don't worry, they'll hold." More than anything he hoped this would all end soon.
Eliot followed over to the couch and sat down heavily beside Quentin. "I hope that won't be days like some of the nonsense around here." He pulled the blanket that was over the back of the couch and spread it over both of them then pulled the other close. "I hope it will be over tonight." He pressed a kiss to Quentin's temple. "It certainly does come in handy."
