My dad is a religious leader in my community. I technically wasn't even allowed to have the bunny that left the eggs or the chocolate. He considered it a distraction.

Yep. From the true meaning of Easter. The Resurrection of Jesus Christ who died for our sins. The Easter Bunny isn't truly Christian and therefor is a distraction from the holiday.

Luckily my grandmother slipped my chocolate and dad never really knew what went down at school.

Chocolate itself isn't a no. I could eat chocolate, especially if I gave it up for Lent. It's the symbolism of the chocolate eggs and bunnies.

Maybe. I don't know if she knew the true history of the Walker women before she died or not until after. I still wonder why she didn't fully embrace who she was, but maybe I'm just the first generation to have the chance, given the time period she grew up in.
