Log: Beauyasha

WHO: Beau & Yasha
WHAT: Beau’s baby brother shows up unexpectedly and the lesbians scramble. (they don't actually throw cheese at a toddler)
WHEN: Today! Jan 6th
WARNINGS: None really. References to Beau’s parents being terrible.
STATUS: Complete!
"We do got this."

The strange holidays of this place seemed to be coming to an end for a bit, but Beau couldn't be too sure. She could ask, but that wasn't really her style. She didn't particularly mind festivities and lights anyway, and the fireworks at New Year's had been enjoyable. If there was another holiday around the corner with more explosives, she wouldn't be bothered.

For now, though, she meant to spend a little time enjoying their new house. It was still a little bare - filling a house with furniture and art and whatnot was more time-intensive than she'd ever realized. But as tempting as it was to pay someone else to do it, she liked picking things up slowly with Yasha. The domestic feeling of furniture shopping and painting rooms was undeniable. Comforting. And Yasha was particularly gorgeous when she found something new for the house that made her light up in soft joy.

The wall garden for herbs she was currently hanging had been no exception so Beau took pleasure in nailing it to the wall.

"Is that straight? If this one is off, the rest will be too, and it'll make me crazy every time I look at it," she said over her shoulder from the top of a short ladder.

Yasha should have been paying attention. She had her own tasks to do! A list of them, even, of things they’d planned to get done today. Beau was doing her part, in fine (beautiful) form, hanging things as Yasha asked and looking lovely doing it.

But… yeah. That was part of the problem. Yasha was often lovestruck around her girlfriend, and when her very fine ass was put on display, right in front of her, in those tight pants Beau liked to wear?

Nothing was getting done.

Her eyes were very clearly trained onto Beauregard’s ass when she glanced over her shoulder, and Yasha’s pale skin turned a lovely rose-colored shade as she was caught. “Uh-” She looked up, a little sheepish, to finally focus on the task at hand. “I’d honestly say there’s nothing straight about anything in this house but it actually looks pretty good.”

Beau barked out a surprised laugh, even if she really shouldn't have been all that shocked. If their roles in this project had been reversed, she'd be eyeballing Yasha just as obviously, and probably shot back a similar reply too. She leaned out, one hand on the ladder to keep it steady with her exceptional balance, and grabbed the next row of planters. Before straightening back up, she swung over to Yasha for a kiss.

"I should know better than to use that word," she smirked. "What do you think of it so far? It should work, right?" She looked back to the wall as she sat the planter down on top of the ladder for a moment. It was hard to see the whole thing from this angle. She was contemplating getting down and stepping back for a look before moving onto the next step when a sound from the other room caught her attention. Beau frowned, immediately tense.

She whispered, "Did you hear that?"

Yasha met the kiss with one of her own, and a smile. “It’s perfect.” And it was, even if it ended up a little lopsided, it was still part of their home and Yasha was overly sentimental about these sorts of things. A home wasn’t something either of them had in a long time, and a happy one at that was even farther gone.

Beau tensing up made Yasha tense, though - she didn’t have as keen senses as Beau did, but she was more attuned to the mood shifts of her girlfriend than most. “No.” But she put down the pot she had been holding and started towards the noise anyway, to give it a check. “Maybe it is the rat.”

It wasn’t, she heard the rustling the second time around, and then a whimper. Yasha’s eyebrows knotted together and she moved to the other side of the door and wrapped her fingers around the handle before looking to Beau for a signal that she was ready.

Beau's eyes narrowed at the second sound. Rats didn't generally make a sound like that. She dropped off the ladder silently and crept across the floor towards the door. She gave a tiny nod and as the door was opened, her fists were at the ready. Just about anything could've been on the other side of that door and she would've handled it with the same fierceness as everything else they'd battled.

Anything but a familiar toddler who was sniffing forlornly. When he spotted Beau, T.J. brightened and waddled her way, little arms raised. He looked about the same age as the last time she saw him and had a dirty face but was otherwise unharmed.

"Shit," Beau gasped. "T.J. What…Where--" Beau hurried into the next room to look around for anyone else who'd randomly shown up in their house. She really didn't need her parents appearing out of nowhere.

“Uh-” If Yasha had put money on any kid randomly showing up at their house, TJ probably wouldn’t have been on the top. Mostly because he had parents back home - though there had been a number of times Yasha would have liked to wring their necks. Beauregard’s father, in particular, was high on her shit list.

“Did not see that coming.” Yasha followed Beau’s lead and started looking behind the door, and then in the closet, making sure that dear ol’ dad wasn’t hiding somewhere. When she opened the closet, she was reminded that Yasha had already been collecting toys for when Ziggy and Barth made their appearance, and she snagged a stuffed dinosaur from the top of the box and brought it back out so she could offer it to the toddler. “I didn’t see anyone else. Hi T.J.”

T.j. grabbed the stuffed dinosaur with one hand and Beau's knee with the other, clinging to her leg. She was still anxiously expecting one of her parents to materialize but the dread was receding as she stared down at her cute little brother. Crouching down beside him, she wrapped an arm around his waist and pulled him onto her hip. He sniffled once more but rested his head on her shoulder with the dinosaur hugged tightly to his chest.

"Poor kid. Did you just get dumped here alone? That must have been scary." Beau brushed a hand over his head and looked at Yasha. Her mouth felt dry. What the fuck did she know about kids? She only barely knew this one. But she was damn sure going to make sure he was safe and cared for. "I don't--I guess we can call the DOA and see if my parents are here somewhere too?"

Yasha gave a little helpless shrug in return. She knew full well they weren’t about to hand him off to anyone else, unless, begrudgingly, Beau’s parents showed up. In Yasha’s mind, he was probably better off with them - or at least Beau - but even she knew not to voice that out loud to a toddler.

“Maybe dumped alone, but you have us.” Yasha reached up to smooth a hand across his back, surprisingly gentle for such a large woman. Children only made her uncomfortable in the sense that she was worried she was going to break them, so the extra balance of delicateness with the tiny beings was necessary. “Do you want me to go call, or do you want to do it together?”

Beau was reluctant to find out her father was there, so she couldn't help but drag her feet. "We can do it together in a bit." Her attention turned back to her brother and she gave him a quick once over, turning his face this way and that before she swiped away the residue of his tears.

"How are you doing, buddy? Are you hurt?"

T.J. hugged the dinosaur closer and shook his head. "By myself," he mumbled - it came out more like bmyshelf.

Beau hugged him tighter to her hip and carried him back towards the kitchen. "Yeah, sorry about that. You're okay now. We'll get you something to eat and figure this all out, okay?"

Yasha made the quietest little aw noise as she followed behind them. Food. “I can do that. Food.” Her little kitchen was already partially stocked, at least, and they’d had Kiri visit out here numerous times since it’s arrival. That helped, since the tiny Kenku had a big love of grilled cheese bites.

Her girlfriend’s baby brother probably wouldn’t appreciate the roasted crickets put inside them for Kiri half as much, though, and mentally omitted them from the recipe.

She pulled her apron off a nearby hook and went into kitchen-mama mode, ready to provide. Yasha pulled a big wedge of cheese off the pantry shelf and some bread to go with it. “Do you like cheese, T.J.?”

T.J. watched Yasha move with wide, curious eyes, either because she had a soft and soothing voice or because she was so tall and broad. Whatever the reason, he reached away from Beau towards the bar stools at the kitchen island, the dino tucked under his arm.

"Cheese? Yes!"

Beau caught him before he tumbled out of her arms and sat him down on a stool. He was too small to leave up there untended, though, so she stood behind, like the back of a chair. Her nerves were still shot. The dread of possibly seeing her father again warred with the joy of seeing her brother again.

"Thanks, babe," she said to Yasha."We'll have to figure out what he doesn't like. There's probably stuff a toddler should eat, right? I'll pick up some books." Her anxiety was starting to show. "And a crib? I mean if…if they're not here, he…he should stay?"

Yasha nodded knowingly and started slicing the cheese with a knife, keeping it far enough away from any curious prying toddler hands. “Cheese is the way to everyone’s heart.” She answered honestly, and tossed T.J. a quick wink that earned her a delighted giggle. She went about the process of a grilled cheese just the same way Kiri liked it, only glancing up briefly to note Beau’s stance and nerves popping out.

“I don’t know much, but we’ve got a few friends that can probably help too.” Jester almost certainly knew more than them when it came to kids. So did Veth, but she wasn’t here to offer her trollish advice.

After a moment, she paused, and looked at Beau again. Then down to TJ, and back up, soft and warm. “We have more than enough room, and we can get everything we need. We got this, babe.” And just in case Beau needed the extra encouragement, Yasha nodded at Beau. “We’ll stick together.”

The tension that had built in Beau's shoulders leaked out. She'd known, of course, that Yasha wanted kids eventually and that she was too kind to refuse a place for Beau's brother even if she hadn't, but it was still a lot to dump in her girlfriend's lap unexpectedly. She moved closer to Yasha's side of the island while keeping a hand on T.J.'s back.

"Thank you." She reached to squeeze Yasha's arm and then pressed a hand to her cheek. "You're the best, you know? Anybody else would probably look a little twitchy at least about this." Maybe she was projecting, but still. She wasn't a bad kind of twitchy. If anything, her gaze was tender as she looked first at Yasha and then at her brother, who grinned at her as he kicked his little feet.

"You're right though," Beau smiled. "We do got this."

Yasha squeezed back and leaned into the touch. It probably wouldn’t do to make out in front of T.J. when he was perched, so she held off and just leaned back to hold up a piece of cheese for Beau to take with her teeth. “Not much makes me twitchy. This is easy.” She glanced around, from the toddler perched to the kitchen they were still in the process of remodeling. “As long as we’re together, we can take on anything.”

They’d already proven that, a few times over. Without the Mighty Nein, Yasha would have been lost, likely dead. Without Beauregard? That wouldn't have mattered anyway. She made life worth living for Yasha.

“Cheese!” Apparently the world did not revolve around her heart eyes, but cheese, as T.J. held his hand out for a piece like the one Yasha had given Beau. She chuckled and offered one out, before pulling away so she could finish off the sandwich for grilling. “Tough crowd. Grilled cheese bites coming up, three minutes.”

Toddler brother or not, Beau couldn't resist a long stare at Yasha as she took the offered cheese between her teeth. Yasha was beautiful in every way and filled the kitchen - and Beau's chest - with warmth. The feeling of family was still one that surprised her everytime it kicked her in the teeth.

Thankfully, T.J. stuffing cheese in his mouth and making a loud, happy noise distracted her. She laughed and tucked an arm around her brother to slip under him onto the stool. It was easier than trying to balance him from the next stool over. It also gave her easy access to tickling him in the ribs, filling the kitchen with high-pitched giggling.

"Hope you're ready to share, little man."
