I'm not really religious, but I always try to give something up for Lent. I think I'm going to try to not buy anything that's not necessary (obviously I'll get food and things) and spend more time at the homeless shelter where I help out.

Then again, we mustn't brush off our feelings as frivolous. I agree that it's a good idea to keep things in perspective, but everything that we feel is valid.

Because it's a time to reflect and give up something that means something to you. And I really like soda, so giving it up means something more than just... I dunno, waffles.

Lent is a great time for reflection, and removing those distractions from between you and God.
