Most people seem to respect the service dog. Many, I've noticed, give us a wide berth when they see his vest. But there are always, every time we go out there's at least two or three, who refuse to respect the vest and insist on petting him.

Don't worry, Ozma, I'm not talking about people at work. I haven't had any issue there. It's when we go out to the stores and what not. When we're walking down the street.

Don't let your daughter hear that. You know what Dylan's reaction would be.

Oh I know. She'd give them hell.

That coming from a three year old shouldn't be as amusing at is is.

Our little girl is smarter, and more educated, than most adults.

Which is scary as hell to think about. Makes you wonder who she got that from.

I think she gets it from both of us.

Or takes after her aunt. I wouldn't be surprised on that one.

I will never get why people seem to feel entitled to pet service animals. I see it at my food truck and it just...takes everything I have not to scream at people to leave the animal and their human alone.

All they see is a dog. A cute dog they want to pet, and damn the consequences.

Which really you'd think adults would know better.

I know from the K-9 Units my dad worked with that my yelling could just make the situation worse.

They don't. Young kids honestly don't know better. Older kids are better about it than the adults.

And all we can really do is hope they keep those smarts about service dogs when they turn into adults.

Yeah it is. but people, adults, are generally so self absorbed they don't care about anyone else, or anything that doesn't benefit or at least directly affect them.

I've noticed that.

If you ever decide to bring him to my food truck, I'll have a bowl of water for him with your meal. And with your permission - a treat.

A treat would be okay.

Where is your food truck?

For a second there I thought I was going to have to remind everyone of the rules at work. Just because he doesn't earn a salary doesn't mean your service dog isn't entitled to the same respect from your coworkers.

And if I can resist petting him during meetings, other adults just walking past can resist I'm sure.

Yeah, he is. I mean, maybe it would be better if I'd gotten an ugly one. But he's perfect for me.

Besides he's sweet and that will just encourage people to want to pet him regardless of how he looked.

And petting him is fine when he's off duty. Or when we're in a relaxed setting. When he doesn't have to be working. I mean, he is a dog.

And the person asks you first like I do.

Also I'm buying treats for the office. The humans have snacks. So should he.
