Sometimes, you just see a name and it's far too on the nose.

Like Dick Braine, the new leader of UKIP.

If it wasn't obvious before, satire is clearly dead.

Don't even get me started.

It's a satire article come to life. I mean, all of it is and it's a bloody mess. But honestly. Dick Braine. Sure they said Richard but we all know the common nickname for that.

It truly is, even though he was the favoured candidate of his predecessor, Gerard Batten.

I just...what's that slang, Can;t, I just can't.

Between that and Johnson and is act of idiot so people don't look too closely....

Yes, that's the correct slang.

What are any of them thinking....

I have no idea, though the notion there were any maybe decent contenders is also a laugh. No matter what, it was going to be a mess.

I agree completely.

Which unfortunately seems to be the way of it all lately.

With no sign of it changing.

Not anytime soon, at any rate.

This saddens me.

Me as well, but they will change eventually, I refuse to believe that this is all it will ever be. I just can see that right now? It doesn't look like it will be anytime soon and will take a lot of work.

As long as people have hope, it can happen.

It really did. This is just yet another reminder.

Now that is currently one of the questions for the ages.

Part of me thinks it never will. Their reality has lapped our satire.

Well that's just too depressing a thought, and no matter how dark things currently are, I refuse to believe that.

Exactly. Just as I joke about this guy's name. Sometimes that's all we have.

I laughed far too hard reading that name.

Sometimes you just have to laugh. And really, it's quite perfect.

I almost hope that it starts appearing in the newspapers. It would make those articles much more interesting.

Unfortunately, I imagine they'll use Richard if they use his full name. But we'll all know the truth.

Or there could be that one journalist who goes for it. I'm hoping for that actually. But if not - you're right.

[info]alwaysbeenthere

There could be, most likely on sites that may utilise sarcasm and satire. Most news organisations though would probably stick with Richard, though.

Those have been my favorite things to read this summer.

[info]alwaysbeenthere

They can certainly make it less depressing. Or more so as it becomes harder and harder to use satire and sarcasm because of how everything is that it would appear as satire in any other circumstance.

That is when I stop looking at those sites and go back to my composing. No matter how dark my mood is that never fails to make it better.

That's the most important thing anyone can have in times like these. Things to hold onto that makes them happy otherwise we burn out and forget the life we fight for.

Sometimes I really wonder what their parents were thinking when they named these people. In this case, clearly they saw the future and named him appropriately.

[info]alwaysbeenthere

Clearly! I mean, it's not like Dick is an unknown nickname for Richard. So really, they have no excuse.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]thesilentknife
2019-09-02 07:51 am UTC (link)
Exactly! I'm fairly certain his parents must've been having a laugh at him. Along with the rest of the world. He must've been teased mercilessly in school.

[info]alwaysbeenthere

They must have, because if they chose that without thinking of that nickname? Then they clearly weren't that bright. And he really must have been. I don't see how he wasn't with a name like that.

[info]thesilentknife

I don't know which I'd prefer, that his parents weren't that bright and had him for a kid, or that they saw the future and did it all on purpose.

[info]alwaysbeenthere

Right? Both have brilliant possibilities.

They really do. And yet the potential of his parents not being bright and passing those genes on are not reassuring either.

[info]alwaysbeenthere

No, in this situation not as much. But sometimes you just have to laugh at it all.

If we don't take these opportunities to laugh, then we clearly have no sense of humor. After all, it's right there.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]alwaysbeenthere

Exactly. And it's good to laugh in these times, otherwise are we truly living?
