One of my co-workers asked me if I was LGBTQ+ and after being confused at why they were asking, I said I wasn't because I'm not anything? But apparently not being anything is not an option? I'm just being me.

FINALLY

Just being you is a good thing. But there's a reason there's a Q for a more umbrella like term and the plus.

And the reason is?

There's a spectrum and it's not nearly as neat as LGBT. So one acronym is LGBTQA, the A meaning Asexual - or not having a sexual attraction to anyone. Which on its own has a spectrum.

Asexual? That sounds more like me than the others do.

Yeah, figured it would I have some articles I can give to you if you're interested. I did a lot of researching at the library when I was figuring myself out back in Arkansas.

We were talking about Pride month, and apparently it goes with the territory? I don't know.

Still don't see why it's their business if you aren't friends with them but sure, why not.

We're work friends, but still. I'm not exactly one to talk about that stuff.

Right, that's a thing. Work friends. But yeah, not everyone is that open.

People are weird. I sometimes get that. Or I guess confused reactions if I don't understand certain things.

People are definitely weird. And kind of nosy.

I just ignore them because I'm me and don't need their opinions on if I should know a thing or not.

That is true, but I'd prefer to know something that might prevent me from saying 'I'm nothing' in relation to this and don't mean it in a self-deprecating way.

Yeah, that makes sense. Sometimes I feel like something is wrong with me but I push it aside. Even knowing just for yourself is important as well.

People are dumb. But there are words for not being anything but no one can tell you what you are but you.

What words? Because if there are, I'd rather say those than 'I'm nothing.' It sounds a lot more depressed and deprecating than I actually mean it to be.

Ace(asexual) is like, you don't feel sexual attraction or do very rarely or with certain people, or not at all (there's like this whole range of it)

Aromantic is where you don't have romantic feelings for people. You can still love someone but it's platonic or familial.

Some people can be one or the other or both, or ace and a (romantic) lesbian, or ace and bi, or whatever. There's a lot of overlap.

I always did think you were aces ;) (you know, aces as in awesome)

Interesting, I'll have to read up on it. Maybe I can figure out what I actually am and not feel like a freak about it.

Why thank you.

You're so not a freak. Family, but not a freak! And don't get too worried if like, things change as you research and get more comfortable with yourself. I used to think I was bi but then realized I wasn't.

Maybe next year, if you feel comfortable about it and figured it out, we could take you to Pride. Lots of other people just like you. There are even flags!

Unless you're a lesbian then there are like 16 flags because we can't figure our shit out and so that's why I'm sticking with a rainbow, since that's for all of us!

Yeah, it's basically, this is me? Why do I need to be something LGBTQ+? Besides, people tend to be far more complex than being just a simple letter like that.

I feel the same way. I'm attracted to who the hell I'm attracted to. The fuck does it matter I fell in love with a man? Then fucked it all up.</

It really shouldn't matter. I don't care who loves who and whatever. I personally don't feel attraction to people, so I tend to not even think about that sort of thing.
