Okay I'm just going to go ahead and say it now - Die Hard is not a Christmas movie. It is a movie that takes place at Christmas and that is a completely different thing.

Ho Ho Ho, Santa gave him a machine gun, soooo you're wrong.

A Santa cameo is not enough to make it a Christmas movie. Because the primary point of the movie is nothing to do with Christmas.

Sure it is. It's about a man trying to be with his family at Christmas time while dealing with family issues. That is basically the plot of every Christmas movie.

The thing that's keeping him from seeing his family just happens to be terrorists.

But the terrorist issues quickly become what everybody's watching for.

But aren't the terrorists just a metaphor for our culture's aggressive, soulless consumerism, when what need to remember is that Christmas is about the memories you share as a family?

What’s your opinion when it comes to Gremlins? In my opinion, it’s a Christmas movie.

That's the one with the weird little animal that you can't feed after midnight right?

Gizmo, yeah. That's the one.

Wasn't the kid given Gizmo as a Christmas present in that?

Yup. And that's why it's a Christmas movie.

Yeah, really. If it's not a Christmas movie, how do you explain this??

Someone at 20th Century Fox is wrong.

I think that's just you.

Look, it's all about family togetherness, and there's even a Christmas miracle scene with an epic Christmas miracle score. The soundtrack is Christmasy. It's 100% Christmas movie material.

I'll see your "Die Hard is Not A Christmas Movie" and raise you "Home Alone is not a Christmas movie". It's a home invasion movie staring a genre savy protagonist, and it just happens to take place over Christmas.

I can agree with that. It's also a movie about shitty parenting though.

Oh, absolutely. CPS should have taken all the kids a long time ago. Not just Kevin and his siblings, but all the cousins as well.

If not after what happened in the first movie but definitely after the second. How many were there in that series?

I think the first two were the only ones about that family? I never saw any of the others.

I've never seen it actually. What's it about?

John Travolta being a pilot and married to Kirstie Alley, realizing his boss is trying to have an affair with him, and then he tries to get back to his family before Christmas.

I got to say...I don't think it's actually a Christmas movie either. It sounds like it's a movie that just happens to take place around Christmas.

I don't think it was the best movie for a child to see, especially given the beginning, but then again, thankfully I was young enough I didn't quite understand the whole concept of the Look Who's Talking franchise.
