Mankind is not exactly an intelligent species, I'm afraid, terribly easy to corrupt with the promise of power, wealth, influence.

And the ones that aren't corrupted are labelled as weird, or even oppressed or killed.

I think there's hope for this life though, if enough people aren't corrupted.
