I think I severely underestimated what it would be like, exactly, to be pregnant in July. Flowy maternity dresses, mocktails, and homemade popsicles have been my lifesavers. I basically just feel like a hot water bottle and I've still got months to go.

Though it is interesting feeling him move more. Interesting to want to organize the nursery to oblivion and then cry when it doesn't look right. And to know that I'm gaining weight specifically for the purposes of 'maternal stores of fat.'

I also started my fourth set of dreams. Demonic monsters on a killing spree - this can only be a job for a ramshackle team of those who dabble in the occult, and I know just who I have to see to get that started. Turns out he is just as prickly there as he is here, but I think I would be worried if he wasn't.

Well, I meant the being pregnant part, but it occurs to me that the other part is tough, just not quite as hard.

Being pregnant is difficult, yes, but I doubt I could have this in any set of dreams. So I sort of relish it here, even the extreme discomfort.

That makes sense, yeah.

Hopefully it will get easier as time goes on.

I've seen three deliveries, and sometimes it goes really well.

And sometimes it doesn't go well?

Sometimes. That's why I don't ever turn away when I see one happening.

Didn't start out knowing how to deliver a human baby, but after three, you kind of get the idea.

And how exactly did you find yourself in that situation three times?

I'm a vet tech, and my clinic sends me out to help with problem animals. Well, you might be surprised how often the stress of an favored animal delivering will send a late term pregnant woman into immediate labor.

That has happened twice. Last one happened during the whole space soldiers thing, recently. there was a traffic jam caused and I was zooming along on my scooter when I spotted a woman in distress. Next thing I knew, I was helping out.

Wow. Be careful or you could put ob-gyn's out of a job.

Doubtful. Maybe a mid-wife or two, but not an Ob-Gyn. I am nowhere near enough smart to be one of those.

I'd probably go with the midwife, personally, but I suppose in desperate times you can't be too picky.
