I think I severely underestimated what it would be like, exactly, to be pregnant in July. Flowy maternity dresses, mocktails, and homemade popsicles have been my lifesavers. I basically just feel like a hot water bottle and I've still got months to go.

Though it is interesting feeling him move more. Interesting to want to organize the nursery to oblivion and then cry when it doesn't look right. And to know that I'm gaining weight specifically for the purposes of 'maternal stores of fat.'

I also started my fourth set of dreams. Demonic monsters on a killing spree - this can only be a job for a ramshackle team of those who dabble in the occult, and I know just who I have to see to get that started. Turns out he is just as prickly there as he is here, but I think I would be worried if he wasn't.

Sounds like a tough path to walk, but an interesting one.

And wild dreams.

Which path, being pregnant in the summer or being an occultist demon killer?

Well, I meant the being pregnant part, but it occurs to me that the other part is tough, just not quite as hard.

Being pregnant is difficult, yes, but I doubt I could have this in any set of dreams. So I sort of relish it here, even the extreme discomfort.

That makes sense, yeah.

Hopefully it will get easier as time goes on.

I've seen three deliveries, and sometimes it goes really well.

Sometimes. That's why I don't ever turn away when I see one happening.

Didn't start out knowing how to deliver a human baby, but after three, you kind of get the idea.

And how exactly did you find yourself in that situation three times?

I'm a vet tech, and my clinic sends me out to help with problem animals. Well, you might be surprised how often the stress of an favored animal delivering will send a late term pregnant woman into immediate labor.

That has happened twice. Last one happened during the whole space soldiers thing, recently. there was a traffic jam caused and I was zooming along on my scooter when I spotted a woman in distress. Next thing I knew, I was helping out.

Doubtful. Maybe a mid-wife or two, but not an Ob-Gyn. I am nowhere near enough smart to be one of those.

I'd probably go with the midwife, personally, but I suppose in desperate times you can't be too picky.

He can read this message on here Mrs. Public Business...I'll probably be following right along you though I skipped them this month. No complaints. More Justice League Dark nonsense?

Could you possibly give some sort of signal about the crying? If it's maternity emotions or an actual emergency. I've started to get acid reflux.

We haven't officially assembled yet, but Bruce came to see me after a show and was quite adamant about finding you. Even though I explained things were awkward between us.

What sort of signal? A middle finger, maybe?

When are they not? At least we're consistent. Surprised the Bat has come scouring looking for the dark arts when he doesn't believe in magic...even though his best friends are a demigod and an alien...

My hormones will balance out eventually, but I'll do my best to not give you the fear with my sobbing. I realize it's kind of a whiplash.

Your hormones are fine, darling. You're fine. I just wish I had baby/mother intuition and knew what could be done for you is all. But you already know I'm at your disposal for anything so that part is covered.

I'll have pickle jars stationed at every corner of the room. You think those defibrillator things work? Maybe that'll help.

Oh and look what I found. Organic bedsheets. How in the hell. Organic. Bedsheets.

I already know that you've got a photoshoot planned for it and everything. I'm not going to bother to try to save him from it. Sorry son, nothing to be done about it.

Oh Cheryl is utterly thrilled about everything. And will probably call or text you instantly. I'm sorry. I had to make empty threats to keep her from flying over here now.

Shut it. Don't even make jokes about it.

Yeah, well, prepare to be smothered. You know those women who were just meant to be mothers? The sort that just always mothered even if ours died and that's just the role she took everyone even at the age of seven?

Also? Ignore the prattling about you just showing up randomly. She's been annoying about it. I just don't call her as often as she'd like me to because she's not my mother, and I haven't quite figured out how to tell her I've known you several lifetimes over.

See, I always thought I needed to pass gas when that started happening.

Don't miss that either. Doing any of those yoga stretches? It'll be my turn to untangle you from uncomfortable positions when you're planet-sized.

It does feel a lot like gas. I'll probably get really good at differentiating between what's actually gas and what's actually the baby.

Oh, definitely. I've been doing what positions I can, since it helps keep me relaxed first and foremost. I could use an extra partner though.

Just aim it John's way if it's the former. Remember, he did this to you.

I only ever did it with you so I'll follow your lead - and just be there for self-esteem points. I bet pregnant you'll still be ten times more graceful than me.
