Here's what I have to say about this election. Come on people. It's been a few days, and nobody is dying. Life goes on. Who knows what the future is going to be? Are states really talking about seceding from the US? Good luck there.

My motto this month is Business as Usual.

I've been hearing about the riots, but secession? Seriously?

Oh yeah. Not that it will ever happen. If it did, it would be after this guy is out of office. I blame the people up North for starting that one.

People have a right to be upset Jace, I thought you'd understand that considering the rights of your parabatai and his new husband are potentially under threat.

I know they do, but people are getting crazy over something that isn't even a thing.

I am going on two things. As I told Clary, you can't arrest someone for doing something that was legal when they did it. That stands. Second, marriage is decided on a state level, not federal. It's legal in some states, and California is notoriously democratic. Do you think they will be changing.

But it is a thing that the man elected as the next president is a racist homophobic bigot. His campaign was full of evidence to back that up. So I think people are allowed to worry about what that could mean for them.

Maybe not but I don't think belittling people who are worried is going to help.

It's not belittling. There is a panic over things that may never happen, or if they do, there will be time to defend their rights. It's not something happening tomorrow, and the fact is, the asshat is coming. Panicking should not replace thinking and planning. People are rioting against people who voted democrat. How is that okay? It won't change what's coming anyway.

It is, it's dismissing peoples concerns as being unimportant when they aren't. And no I don't agree with rioting but I also don't agree with the increase in hate crimes either.

No, it isn't unimportant, but people are taking it way too far over something that hasn't happened, and what they are doing isn't going to do anything except hurt themselves and others. I don't want to minimalize it, but I don't want to be counterproductive.

The hate crimes were on the rise before this, and those weren't going away no matter who won. This entire country is going to shit right now, but that's been going on for a long time, and at the same time, we still have to live in it.

Well I'm not going to start telling people not to worry. Everybody is entitled to say what they feel and, as long as they aren't causing harm, I'm certainly not going to stop them.

If that's what you think then that's what you think. I don't agree but that's my choice.

I know, and trust me when I say I know I'm saying this all wrong.

Consider it like this. If I hear there is a demon in the area, I don't just start swinging in the air. I wait to see the demon, and then I'm going to crush it. This is the same thing. The guy is sketchy, but until he makes a move, I'm not going to expend the energy on it when it can be better used later.

Is that better?

If there was a demon in the area you'd go out and hunt it down. But I get what you're trying to say.

I'd would go after it, but I would wait until it showed itself too. If the demon rears it's ugly head, I'm all over it.

Okay. So for now, we do what we do, and if the troll rears it's ugly head, we cut off the head.

I don't think it's right to minimise people's fears when a man has just been elected president who could radically alter their lives. Alec and Magnus could end up in jail for simply marrying the person they love if the worst happens.

I don't minimalize it, but thinking before panicking is a good thing.

Alec and Magnus ending up in jail is a stretch. Also, the president can't arrest someone for doing something that was legal when it was done. He also doesn't hold much executive power. That stuff was decided on a state level as well as federal. States would have to repeal the order.

It may be more complicated than it seems on the face of it, but the fact is there is now someone who is in a position to start effecting that change. He already has by influencing people with the stuff he said during his campaign and I think the trickle down effect is yet to seen. Given the divisive and pretty aggressive campaign I think people have the right to be concerned about the future. They shouldn't be rioting or anything but they have the right to protest peacefully against something they're worried about.

I know, and I get that. I don't want him to do things that will set this place back 50 years, and I'm not about to let him hurt what Alec has now. However, he hasn't acted yet. He said stuff years ago. I said stupid stuff last week, but that doesn't mean a whole lot unless the actions back it up. He may have learned a thing or two. He doesn't have too much executive power without permissions of the house and senate. We will hope there are greater minds than his on the team. But until he does something, there is really nothing we can do. Until then, we have to do what we can do.
