I've been playing classical music to my pregnant belly for the last few weeks. Do you think it's true what they say and that it can potentially make babies smarter?

Oh my God, do you think that works? Maybe I should try it.

It was just something I heard another mother saying at the hospital. I haven't researched it yet. I suppose I should really.

I don't think it would harm anything.

I found an article here, but it says the theory has been mostly debunked and not true. But I like to think if my babay likes classical music, it might make them somewhat pre-disposed to being more calm and studious. I may be wrong though...

Being more calm and studious doesn't sound like a bad thing.

Definitely not. Although knowing my luck, now I've said that, I'll have a baby with the worst hyperactivity known to mankind!

How are you getting on anyway?

Then both of ours can be playmates.

Not too badly. Drinking more water than ever. What about you?

I would really love that, thank you! They can tire each other out for us. :-)

About the same, although I think I'm slowly turning into a whale. My legs have swollen up horribly, thank god I can wear skirts now its summer. I've not been as sick lately which is good, just praying it stays that way!

I think we both are, but hey, we can do maternity shopping together.

Me too and skirt are good.

Sounds brilliant, I would love to do that! When are you free?

They are a god send! I never knew I could find trousers so constricting!

I can say babies do seem to remember what they've heard before. My girl would quiet right down if I played the music her mom liked.

Really? Well that's encouraging for the future. What kind of music did you use?

My wife loved old country. Tennessee Ernie Ford. Johnny Horton. Porter Wagoner. It quiets Judith down even now. We weren't or well, aren't the classical kind of people. We're simple folk. My kids are smarter than either of us so I don't know if it's a matter of music or not.

Hmm, I've not listened to much country music before. I'll have to add it to the list. I've decided to make a playlist, so recommendations are greatly appreciated.

How old is your daughter? Is she your only child?

Elvis is always a fine choice. I'd tell you some of our favorites except I don't know how easy they'd be to get your hands on.

Judith is close to 2 years now. I got a son, too. Carl. He's fourteen going on fifteen or fifty depending on the day.

Elvis should be compulsory listening for everyone, surely. Hard to get hold of? Do you have more of a rarefied taste then?

Bless, I have a step-son who is 3 going on 4 and I'm due my first in August. Ah, is he an old soul then?

True enough. I don't think it's so much rare as it is old and poor.

Stepson? Is that hard? Or do either of you even think of each other as anything other than family?

Carl is too pragmatic to say anything about another person coming into my life. Judith is too young to even know the difference. She's got no memories of her mother.

Carl is more of an old mind due to circumstances than nature. He's had to adapt to a lot. Life hasn't been easy for him.
