I understand why guys in my position get dogs now. Running with a dog tends to get people to stay out of the way. When I run by myself, I have two options: run with my eyes uncovered while risking the stares or run with tinted goggles since sunglasses won't stay in place at the pace I keep.

And they still stare.

Weird thing? I never noticed until now.

I hate it when people stare and I only have to put up with it in my dreams.

Are there times you can take your dog for a run when there aren't as many people around?

Oh no, I don't have a dog. I was musing how I understand why so many guys like me have them now. Being a blind guy who runs? It's not easy. If I'm a guy running with a dog? People don't look at me. They just look at the dog and typically people looking at the dog will stay out of the way.

I don't hate people. I know it sounds like I have a people issue. I just don't like the staring. It bothers me now. since I can tell it's happening

You're blind?

I get that. I don't hate people, but I did hate the ones that stared and the ones that shoved cameras at me, taking pictures of some of the worst moments of my dream life. The ones that couldn't let me have any peace after finding Marissa.

Do you feel them staring at you? Is that how you know? Or are you paranoid, like me?

Maybe you can find a more private spot to run?

The press can be vicious. I work as a lawyer so I've seen some of them on their worst days. You probably felt as if you weren't even a person to them, only a story. I know that's how I felt when they'd be trying to snap shots of me or my client.

I can hear them better than most. Usually the whispers give away the stares. Sometimes I do feel a tingle which is almost like another sense. It gives away someone is looking at me. Most of the time I can tell they're staring because they stop what they're doing to do that instead. Stare at me. The blind guy running.

I would run somewhere more private, but I'm limited in my comfort zone. I have to use public transit to get anywhere and once I find a track to run on, I have to know it very well before I even try actually running on it. There are three parks in the city I can run in. Each one only has one track safe enough for me. In my nightmares, the people who are staring all watch me trip over something I can't see, watch me fall, get a good laugh in.

I know I should be too old for something like that to worry me. Or to care. I suppose some things defy age.

That's exactly how I felt. It was like everything I went through was just entertainment or a way of making money for them.

People must not have much going on in their own lives, if they stop everything just to stare at someone running.

In my dreams, they all want to know about the bad things that happened. They want to define me as that. Even in the hospital support groups, I feel like the outsider, the one every one else is staring at and thinking of as a freak or a monster. They don't laugh though, at least not to my face. I don't know how I'd handle that.

I think age doesn't matter when it comes to this. It's never fun to be stared at.

I'm sorry. No one deserves how you were made to feel.

People do, indeed, have very limited lives where they want to find whatever fleeting amusement they can find anywhere they can get it. It's how I explain all the YouTube channels with millions of subscribers. I need a reason for that. I'm the type of guy who likes reasons.

No. I think you're right. It isn't about age. This is something no one wants to deal with since who wants to be someone else's entertainment?

My guess would be the people who make youtube channels want to be someone else's entertainment.

Come to think of it? You're right. They probably are all attention-seekers who enjoy the thrill of all those people watching them.

I'll never understand those people. I only wanted Hannibal's attention.

Me either. I don't need the world to watch me. I get by on being the guy who watches the world.
